Visiting Cape Chikyu 地球岬 & Hell Valley 登別地獄谷🌏🌋 | Hidden Scenic Gems of Hokkaido 北海道
We started our morning with a drive to Cape Chikyu, which translates to Earth Cape. From the Cape Chikyu Viewpoint, you get a full panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. There’s a little lighthouse down below, and the whole place feels really peaceful. On the observation deck, there’s something really sweet — the Bell of Happiness. It’s a popular tradition here to ring the bell for good fortune, love, and happiness. We stopped by Cafe Gusto for a quick lunch. After around an hour’s drive, we arrived at Noboribetsu, which is one of Hokkaido’s most famous hot spring towns. Noboribetsu Jigokudani is also known as Hell Valley. This place is basically a massive geothermal valley formed by a volcano – it’s wild! There are a few walking trails that go right through the valley. There’s steam pouring out of the ground and sulfur smells everywhere! After exploring the valley, we took a slow walk through Noboribetsu town. Here comes the end of our Hokkaido adventure and we’ll be heading back to the UK soon. Until next time! 🤍
On our last day in Hokkaido, we visited Cape Chikyu (地球岬), rang the Bell of Happiness (幸福の鐘), and explored the volcanic landscapes of Hell Valley (登別地獄谷) in Noboribetsu.
