I am going to the farthest edge of Nagano Prefecture from now on It’s in the northern nagano area This time, I would like to introduce the northern nagano area among the 54 roadside station guides I think there are different ways of saying it depending on the areas like Hokushin, Chushin, and Nanshin This is referring to the Hokushin block mentioned in this roadside station guide There might be some parts that seem a bit off, but I hope you can overlook that There are 12 locations in the Northern Shinshu block The northernmost point is the Sakae Road Station on the border with Niigata Prefecture I’m currently at Nozawa Onsen, but it’s just a little north of here Around Sakae, there are places like Nozawa and Chikuma, right? Kijimadaira From there, Obuse is included Toyoda Iiyama is included The other one is in Shinano-machi Shinano-machi near Lake Nojiri will be included, right? After that, if you enter the roadside station Oasis Obuse and go down from there, you’ll reach Nagano City The western side of Nagano City includes several areas, such as Shinshu Shinmachi, Nakajo, and Ogawamura So it’s quite broad, I guess It feels like it’s long from north to south This time, I think I’ll head south from the northernmost roadside station, Shinetsu Sakae Right now, there are a total of six locations, right? It’s divided into 6 areas, isn’t it? I’ve already been to a few places Doing this is actually a good review for ourselves I’ve talked about this before in other areas as well I’ve already been to all the roadside stations without even realizing it I think I’ve been to each of them two or three times But when you try to go around that area all at once There were various new discoveries We can talk about what’s delicious in this area I can also remember delicious restaurants around there It’s quite fun This time, we’re planning to either eat or buy something at a roadside station Usually, you don’t really eat anything at a roadside station I’ll go to a nearby restaurant and such So that’s a bit fun too, you know A little while ago, I could eat a big gohei mochi, so there are things like that I think I’ve released about 300 videos in Nagano About 300 pieces In one video, I visit 2 or 3 places like restaurants or cafes So, I’ve already been to over 500 restaurants I would like to mention the things that immediately come to mind as being good about this place again this time But regarding this, I’m just saying what comes to mind There might be something that is absolutely necessary in this area that I might have overlooked Then, it’s just our personal subjective opinion, you know That’s a very biased opinion, lol So just because we’re saying it doesn’t mean it’s absolutely true There are still many delicious places that we haven’t been able to introduce I hope you can just take that as a reference As for this Hokushin area, let’s start with the climate After all, there is just so much snow in winter It’s not just a level of 1 meter or something like that In a place where it could easily drop 1 meter in a whole day It’s an area where it’s possible that you can’t leave the house when you wake up in the morning Anyway, there’s a lot of snow I feel like it would probably be really tough if I lived there I’m buying a big snowplow and will be shoveling snow every day Everyone says I can’t leave the house for another week I’ve heard that in areas where houses get filled up if left vacant for a week But instead, there are a lot of really great ski resorts I guess everything is gathered in the northern信 area called THE Nagano There are also plenty of snow activities After all, there are many challenges because of the heavy snow, but After all, the overwhelming beauty of the scenery is something else It’s an area where you can see things like that It’s true that winter is a bit harsh It’s summer, but the altitude here is low, which is the opposite From an altitude of about 300 meters So it’s quite humid Therefore, summer travel might be unexpectedly exhausting If you come with the image of a highland in Nagano Prefecture, you might think, ‘Isn’t it hot?’ Exceeds 2000 meters in elevation even in the northern信 region There are places like Shiga Kogen as well It’s hot, so of course going up is for escaping the heat There are also places where you might need a fleece It’s okay if you choose the right place around there, but Surprisingly, it can be quite hot in summer, I guess~ So conversely, there is a lot of snow in winter It might not be as extremely cold as in other regions of Nagano It can even drop to minus 20 degrees It’s not very common in this flat area, is it? I think it can get down to minus 10 degrees, though The upper areas like Sugadaira and Shiga Kogen are cold, but the rest, like Karuizawa, is fine The climate is such that winter feels warmer compared to those areas Next is a tourist spot There are just so many tourist spots Almost all the good things about Nagano Prefecture It’s at a level that makes you think this is it First, it’s Shiga Kogen Nozawa Onsen There is Togakushi and there is Obuse There is Lake Nojiri Nagano City is also included in this area Zenkoji Temple is included, right? There are many major tourist attractions There are so many great hot spring places, aren’t there? Nozawa Onsen, Yudanaka Shibu Onsen, Takayama Onsen Area In addition, there are places like Ofuse Onsen Anyway, the water quality is good There are all kinds, from sulfur-scented to smooth From sulfur to simple springs to iron-rich sources A wide selection is available Next is a specialty of the Northern Shinano region When it comes to local specialties, it has to be Togakushi soba, right? The soba in Togakushi is on a whole different level, isn’t it? And also, there’s nozawana, right? I think there are various places all over Nagano where you can find oyaki The famous oyaki shops are mostly around the northern part of this area Then, speaking of famous places, Kuri from Obuse In autumn, I can already eat amazing Mont Blanc As for seasonal items, it’s the time for bent bamboo in spring Everyone gets really into gathering it The seasonal favorite is bent bamboo As for the surrounding area of Nakano in Shinshu, I think apples are really delicious There are just so many apple trees everywhere Can I buy apples directly from JA? There is a direct sales store, but there are shops that sell out if you don’t go there early in the morning If you go a bit further down to the west side of Nagano, you’ll find Genghis Khan (grilled mutton) That’s called the Genghis Khan Highway There are many delicious restaurants lined up This is what the specialty looks like Good morning First location It seems to be open from 8:30 Let’s give it a try There’s a lot of soba Togakushi’s Chimaki buns and such Matatabi buns and such Miso rice crackers Eimura Tomato Juice Tomato juice is great! Iwana fish for sake So there’s a restaurant, and it opens at 10 o’clock? The soba here is said to use oyama bokuchi and funori as binders It looks like soba from Niigata It looks like hegi soba It’s tomato juice curry This is the first thing for today Eimura Tomato Juice This one had both options with salt, you know I will take 130 yen Ah, delicious!! Super delicious! Rich!! The first thing today was that the tomato juice was delicious, wasn’t it? It was quite rich If it doesn’t have salt, it might be useful in various dishes Maybe that’s how they’re making that curry This place is called Eimura It’s the northernmost village in Nagano Prefecture About 10 years ago, I guess There was a big earthquake and such The day after the Great East Japan Earthquake That’s how it is What’s popular around here is the Sakae Club Ski Resort It seems they are promoting the ability to enjoy powder at the ski resort It was really crowded I couldn’t make it, but I thought this year looked great You came once the year before last, right? I think you came by Earth Hopper From here, you can go to Akiyama-go, right? There are two ways to get to Akiyama-go: one from here and another that goes over the top of Shiga Kogen I guess this side feels more mainstream In terms of accessibility, it’s surprisingly easy to get there from Shiga Kogen We tend to go there from that side a lot What’s interesting about Akiyama Village is that there are places where the riverbed turns into a hot spring, allowing you to create your own hot spring and soak in it Dig a little bit of a river by yourself It’s interesting that they dam it up with stones to create a bath The autumn leaves are incredibly beautiful, aren’t they? I think there are about six hot springs The Akiyama region has various hot springs, from iron-based to sulfur-based, and it’s a great place with a lot of different types of onsen If you go about 20 km from this roadside station, Nozawa Onsen is close enough that you can come and enjoy it as a set with Nozawa Onsen Also, if you go to the opposite side of this Eimura, you can get to Niigata Prefecture You can also get over to places like Tsunan Town and that area There are plenty of attractions over there too Places to play There’s also Kiyotsu Gorge, right? It’s a place that looks like a half dome in Kiyotsu Gorge, somewhat like an art installation You can also get to Minami-Uonuma or Yuzawa from Tsunan Town It’s in Niigata Prefecture That’s fun over there too, right? In a rice-producing area The rice was delicious, and there are plenty of ski resorts in Yuzawa, as well as some great rice ball shops and delicious ramen restaurants There aren’t many shops around here, are there? There aren’t even any supermarkets There are plenty over there, because it’s a city It’s quite rare, isn’t it? Even though the cherry blossoms are already over, there’s still snow left It’s amazing that there’s still snow left in the fields and such It must have rained quite a bit It’s understandable that snow remains next to ski resorts or in places where snow is cleared But there are actually quite a lot left next to fields and such That’s amazing! Alright, let’s move on to the next one Next is the roadside station Nozawa Onsen I think I’ve been to this roadside station several times and have introduced it a few times as well There’s a restaurant where the food is delicious At the restaurant, you can eat unlimited nozawana pickles And the rice is also all-you-can-eat The rice from Nozawa Onsen is… I don’t know how this year or the future will turn out, but… I’m not sure about the rice shortage or price hikes, but… But there are things like that Because the nozawana from Nozawa Onsen is all-you-can-eat That’s nice, isn’t it? During lunchtime, it’s quite crowded with a lot of locals coming in The tourist attractions around the Nozawa Onsen roadside station are I think it’s about skiing at Nozawa Onsen and touring the hot springs It’s super fun! Put in 13 places It’s really hot anyway People who are not good with heat might find it a bit difficult I wonder how many places there are where you can make onsen tamago There are about 4 or 5 places, right? You can also buy eggs, There is a main public bath called Oyu where you can buy eggs starting from one There’s a Yamazaki just down the slope from there, and they sell eggs there They sell eggs starting from one piece, and they also sell nets So buy as much as you like You can of course take some with you since you can make onsen tamago nearby We already have it on hand I often forget to bring eggs, so I sometimes buy them there About 20 minutes, I guess I can do it It’s fun because it will be completed while I’m in the hot spring There are many delicious restaurants in Nozawa Onsen What we like is Is it the new house diner? I finally bought it It’s still a bit thin, but it’s really cheap It’s 200 yen Because other roadside stations were 1600 yen Because it’s popular So much for 200 yen I was able to buy a lot After all, it’s springtime now The wild vegetables are amazing Moreover, it’s cheap Alright, let’s move on to the next one Next is the roadside station, Hanano Eki Chikugogawa, which I often visit This place is also close to Nozawa Onsen The town of Iiyama and the station are also close, right? It’s in a pretty convenient location with Montbell and restaurants around Directly sourced products are popular, aren’t they? It’s really popular, isn’t it? It’s big and sells things like apples too At this time of year, there are plenty of wild vegetables for sale When vegetables are not yet available in Nagano, a lot comes in from places like Nagaoka or Niigata So you can buy vegetables relatively early It’s a popular roadside station In winter, there is always water that melts the snow coming out You won’t get buried in the snow, even if you walk That’s good too There are many delicious restaurants and cafes around the roadside station Hananoeki Chikugagawa Italian food is delicious on Saturdays, isn’t it? Anyway, it’s cheap and the portions are large Patisserie Rêve That place is incredibly delicious, isn’t it? I think I’ve introduced it about twice I think this is the place where you can eat the most delicious mousse cake in Nagano I’ve never had shortcake, so I don’t know, but it must be delicious for sure Mousse desserts are just too delicious Not too sweet, with an incredibly smooth texture It’s fluffy and just so delicious That’s amazing, isn’t it? I was really moved at first At first, I was like, ‘What!?’ I went without knowing I was moved It was delicious Next is Iiyama, and I will also go there Restaurant lunch The presentation is beautiful, it seems healthy, but the food is incredibly delicious They have an izakaya-like menu even at night, but we’ve only been here during the day; I recommend it too Whenever I come to Iiyama, I can’t help but go there multiple times Then there’s the curry shop I recently went to Curry Spice Yamaji Incredibly delicious curry It’s not the typical Japanese curry, but more like a spice-based Sri Lankan curry Curry that you mix ingredients into and eat Another popular spot in Iiyama is Inari Shokudo It’s always crowded no matter when you go Every time I pass by, it feels like everyone is waiting for something I definitely want you to take on that challenge Big eater It’s abnormal, seriously lol, someone who can eat a regular portion It’s a quantity that makes you wonder where it all is When it was provided, the amount that came out was enough to make my eyes pop out, lol That place is amazing, isn’t it? Oh, I almost forgot to mention that There’s the Kamakura Festival in winter, right? It’s famous around here, isn’t it? Since it’s a heavy snowfall area, there are plenty of places to play in the snow The Iiyama Line runs just along this right hand side, you see? The Iiyama Line has a cycle train that allows you to bring your bike on without folding it So you don’t need a bike bag like a輪行バック, and you can just bring it on as it is You go down from Iiyama Station all the way I can leisurely paddle and get on from the other side to come back I wonder if they will do it again this year? I’m not quite sure if they always do it, but it’s fun because that kind of train comes out After all, it’s different to be able to ride on roads that cars can’t access It’s quite fun to ride on paths that only bicycles can use There are also new discoveries that make you think, ‘I didn’t know this existed.’ In this area, you can see quite a bit of rural mountain scenery So it’s enjoyable to ride a bicycle slowly while taking in such views There’s not much ups and downs, is there? If you head towards the Sea of Japan side It’s the season for rapeseed flowers, so it’s beautiful All seasons are great, including Iiyama No matter where I go, I keep saying the same thing, but it’s really okay, right? I’m not good with summer in Iiyama, but it’s hot, you know But one good thing about summer around here is that you can swim at Lake Nojiri The water in Lake Nojiri feels nice, but is it okay to swim there freely? I’m not really sure Everyone is swimming, right? It says something like Suwa Lake is not allowed, doesn’t it? Alright, let’s move on to the next one Next is the roadside station FARMUS Kijimadaira It’s close here too I think it’s about 5-6 km from here Nozawa Onsen and Hanano Eki Chikugagawa, FARMUS Kijimadaira, and then the hometown Toyoda Everything here is close, right? It’s just that the roadside station in Nozawa Onsen is… It’s a bit hard to get to since it’s located north of Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort, and not many people know about it FARMUS Kijimadaira is also a bit off the main path, right? It’s a bit on the village side over there There might be surprisingly few people If we talk about famous places around FARMUS Kijimahira As I mentioned earlier, Kijimadaira Ski Resort is nearby, and then there’s Kaya no Hira Highland The place where you go up The beech forest is amazing, isn’t it? That’s kind of a hidden gem, you know? This is a place where you can enjoy such a nice hot spring and a great view along this big road The quality of the spring water is quite good, and this is a recommended hot spring If you go to a restaurant, Kairakuen Restaurant located right in front of the roadside station This is also a great deal It’s cheap and the number of items in the set is amazing It comes with a lot of small bowls This place is recommended The building looks striking at first glance I wonder if this is a cafeteria I briefly felt like it might be a restaurant It’s quite spacious, you know It seems to be quite popular This roadside station, Furusato Toyota, is Are we going towards Iiyama? Or are we heading towards Myoko? It’s a crossroads It will be the junction of Route 18 and Route 117 Is it called the upper right of the northern信? It’s about 30 km from Nagano City, so you can get there in less than an hour Surprisingly, it’s also close from Nagano City, right? I think it would be faster if I used the expressway Huh? Having this street here is really helpful, isn’t it? There are not many shops around here in the northern Shinshu area You can find anything here This place is nice in the summer too, isn’t it? There’s Beisia, Cainz, Workman, and a stand, so… Gasoline is expensive, though After all, it’s the northern信州 This is the hot spring It’s surprising how such a great view can be found in this hot spring located in the middle of the city The left side here is the Chikuma River, and since the river flows through a slightly lower area, it opens up all at once The blue roof on the right is a restaurant It doesn’t feel like a restaurant, does it? It’s delicious Oh, it’s a soba restaurant It’s handmade soba, you know It’s early here, starting from 10 o’clock Zaru soba for 800 yen! Next is the roadside station Shinano ‘Furusato Tenbokan’ I wonder if this is Shinano Town At the foot of Lake Nojiri, or rather It’s located on the way to Myoko on Route 18 This is also the border of Nagano Prefecture, right? The border with Niigata There is Lake Nojiri around here, and it’s fun to play in Lake Nojiri as well Speaking of ski resorts, it’s Madarao Tangram Next is Kurohime Kogen Snow Park There has been quite a bit of talk this year about ski resorts where you can ski with your dog, but I wonder if dogs can ride the lift too It’s a ski resort where you can run around while skiing with your dog Around here, If you go a little further north, Entering Niigata, there are places like Myoko Suginohara Ski Resort and Akakura Kanko Akakura Onsen There’s the heavy snowfall at Sekionsen, right? From Toyoda Iiyama to Shinano Town over here You rode it before, right? Yeah, once in winter It was super easy to go there quickly Around this roadside station, Shinano, It’s at Lake Nojiri, but there’s an all-you-can-eat pizza at Kohaku Terrace You can eat outside right in front of Lake Nojiri You can bake as much pizza as you like They baked it in the hall, and we could do half & half and various other options, right? Like a quarter each or something You could do it then, right? It was about two years ago, so things may have changed now Anyway, it’s delicious when it’s freshly baked You can eat crispy, crunchy pizza It’s the best place The hall isn’t that big either You can order and eat various types I can see a mountain coming into view If we go left here, it says it’s Sunkusairu You know about Sunkus, right? I recommend the outdoor seating, but I think it’s better to make a reservation if you can The view while eating from there is also amazing and not expensive at all The food is also I think it’s quite good We crossed the mountain This roadside station is Shinano It’s a bit off the route this time Since there are two roadside stations, one here and another at the entrance of Shiga Kogen, located separately to the west and east, It’s a bit off the beaten path I have to go back there after this You don’t get it, do you?
