Aizu Higashiyama Onsen was discovered about 1,300 years ago during the Tenpyo period. It was discovered by the famous monk Gyoki and, together with Kaminoyama Onsen and Yunohama Onsen in Yamagata Prefecture, it was once called the Three Pleasures of Ou. In this video, we will fully review the charms of Shintaki, one of the most historic hot spring inns in Higashiyama Onsen, including the history and overview of Shintaki , a room with a semi-open-air bath and a private lounge after renovation, a luxurious dinner and a buffet breakfast, and more. The powerful flow of the Yukawa River runs through Higashiyama Onsen. Across the white bridge, you will find the relaxing inn Shintaki, a Western-style building along the Yukawa River. Shintaki has a long history, dating back to the Edo Period. It was founded in 1887 on land that was used as a hot springs resort by successive Aizu feudal lords during the Edo Period . Shintaki in the Taisho Period : Shintaki Ryokan pamphlet from around 1955. There is a record of the lyric poet and painter Takehisa Yumeji, known for his beautiful women paintings, staying there three times, and many other writers, artists, and famous people of the time , such as Yosano Akiko and Hijikata Toshizo, have visited the inn. In November 2005, three long-established inns in Higashiyama Onsen (Chiyotaki, Shintaki, and Fudotaki) were integrated and operated as the “Relaxing Inn Shintaki and Chiyotaki.” Shintaki currently has five floors above ground and one below, with a total of 90 rooms. It is a relatively large hot spring inn in Higashiyama Onsen. Guests at Shintaki can use some of the facilities at our sister hotel, Chiyotaki, including the baths and lounge, but we will introduce them later. This lounge is available to guests and is convenient to use throughout your stay , from 11pm until 6am . There is a wide selection of drinks. Iced coffee, apple juice, apple tea, delicious Higashiyama water drip coffee. Depending on the time, there was also soup 👍 Amazake made from sake lees from Yamatogawa Sake Brewery, local Aizu sake, whiskey, shochu, plum wine . It’s a shame they don’t have draft beer ^^ (beer is charged). Ice pops . There is also a wide selection of snacks. Next to it is a library space where you can read while enjoying a drink (^^♪ The table tennis corner is free 👍 Check-in For rooms with a semi-open-air bath, check-in is done in your room. Rooms with a semi-open-air bath are located on the first floor and the basement. There is no elevator, so we recommend rooms on the first floor for those with mobility issues. There is a private lounge on the left (we will introduce it later). Sit down in your room and check in. We were given a detailed explanation of the building, the rooms, and the bath. This is an explanation of how to get to our sister hotel, Chiyotaki . Guests staying at Shintaki can use most of the facilities at Chiyotaki outside of their rooms, such as the lobby, shop, lounge, and bath. This slope is quite steep, but we will show you later . Yukatas were prepared in different sizes. There are also obi, tabi socks and indoor slippers. These are the slippers for use in the building . The toilet has the latest washlet toilet. The bathtub is made of stone below and cypress above, and it is a large and luxurious bath. 100% of the water flows from the source. There is a shower room. The shampoos are DHC . There is a shower at the entrance. The spring water is stored in a masu, which already creates a nice atmosphere♪ The natural rock bath [Sennen no Yu], which is associated with the Matsudaira clan, feudal lords of Aizu, makes use of the natural hot spring water that flows from the bedrock as it is, and was once the bath of successive feudal lords. Since the Meiji period, it has been loved by many literary figures, and was even the birth bath of the great writer Yokomitsu Riichi. It appears that the natural rock bath from long ago has been preserved. You can bathe while reminiscing about the history of Aizu^^ A considerable amount of the spring water overflows, and the Yukawa River flows right next to it, so you can quite hear the sound of the riverThis bath is surrounded by white marble? borders, giving it a slightly more luxurious atmosphere^^ Next is the Sennen no Yu open-air bathSennen no Yu open-air bath The changing area is much larger than the rock bath. There are three sinks in the washroom, a hair dryer , cosmetics for men and women, amenities such as shower caps, combs, and cotton swabs. “Fudotaki source” Sennen no Yu is a historic source inherited from the former Fudotaki Ryokan. Sennen no Yu The entire indoor bath of the open-air bath is made of smooth marble, and it is a wonderful bath that gives off a sense of history and luxury. There is also a mountain stream flowing outside, and the sound of the river can be heard loudly. The sound of the river becomes even louder when the water is poured into a large wooden box. Sennen no Yu Open-air Bath Listening to the beautiful and delicate flow of the mountain stream, you can feel the changing of the seasons with all your senses. There is a roof and a screen, but it feels very open♪ The surrounding trees and beams are all made of wood, and it has a wonderful atmosphere. The bathtub is entirely made of stone, and the surrounding area is decorated with rocks, so it has a great atmosphere. You can also rent a private bath, so why not try renting one ? The handrails also look like natural wood^^ A little further back from Sennen no Yu is the “Watari-yu”. (For men and women, there is an indoor bath and an open-air bath for each) Watariyu Men’s bath Changing area There are other baths, so it’s enough Hair dryers, POLA cosmetics for men, and amenities (combs, cotton swabs, etc.) are provided. [Watariyu] is a modern arrangement of an old-fashioned hot spring resort. It is designed in a modern and elegant style while imagining the origin of Higashiyama Onsen, a simple hot spring resort . (From the official website) The atmosphere feels retro and historic👍 The bath is very wide, and cypress and Japanese cypress are used for the edging and surroundings. There are large windows, and although it is an indoor bath, it feels very open👍 There are also plenty of washing areas Shampoos such as DHC are used , and the pouring bath is done in a wooden masu, which gives it a nice atmosphere^^ To get to the open-air bath, you have to go through this slightly unusual path. There is shallow water below^^ It is a little distance to the open-air bath. Go down the stairs a little… Watariyu Men’s bath Open-air bath Here too, the river flows magnificently below. It feels very open and full of negative ions♪ Next is the women’s bath. Watariyu Women’s Bath Undressing Space The size is almost the same as the men’s bath. The washroom is larger in the women’s bath. The hair dryer and amenities are the same. A baby bed was also provided. The indoor bath is almost the same as the men’s bath, so I will skip it. The washroom is also large, and hair dryers, cosmetics, amenities, etc. are available. There is also cold water. Monkey Bath is also a bath that continues the style of Fudotaki Ryokan. When Higashiyama Onsen was discovered 1,300 years ago, it was said to have been called “Saruyu” (Monkey Bath) because groups of monkeys used to bathe there. There is also an anecdote that during the Boshin War, Toshizo Hijikata, who came to recuperate, jumped into the river from Saruyu. The whole bath is new and made of stone, giving it a luxurious feel. There are handrails and steps, making it barrier-free. There are many washing areas , each with a partition to ensure privacy👍 Shampoos are the same as the other baths. Saruyu Men’s Open-Air BathThis is a very large, new open-air bath. The surrounding rock decorations and the Japanese garden create a nice atmosphere♪ Although there is a roof, there is still a sense of openness♪ There are multiple steps, making it easy to enter👍 Let’s go to Chiyotaki, a sister hotel . It is quite a steep slope so you may need to be careful if you are drinking alcohol 😅 It is also nice to stroll around while looking at the townscape ^^ Chiyotaki Front Lobby Guests staying at Shintaki can use the open-air observation bath on the 10th floor of Chiyotaki, and the Futoyu (large bath and private bath) lounge on the 2nd floor . Shintaki is far below! We borrowed a key and ticket from the front desk and headed to the private bath. Fumotoyu has a large public bath and a private bath (1,500 yen for 50 minutes). This is the private bath at Chiyotaki. Note that guests staying at Chiyotaki can also use the bath at Shintaki. We returned to Shintaki and it was time for dinner . The dinner venue was at the very back of the annex, in the dining room “Kai”. It was a large venue, partially separated by curtains. It was a semi-private room, and the food served was very colorful. The drinks menu had a full range, with a focus on Aizu local sake, as well as draft beer and wine. The aperitif was Japanese sake, which was a bit sweet^^ The meal was a creative Aizu local cuisine set , and we had some. 私達は東北地方在住で温泉大好きなアラフィフの凸凹コンビ（まじめ夫とマイペース妻）夫婦です！主に東北地方の温泉巡りをしています^^

「東北の温泉を応援しよう」をコンセプトに、私が実際に宿泊した温泉旅館について、旅館様にもご協力いただいて、歴史や概要から、大浴場やお料理など、YouTubeならではの詳細を解説しています。
