Mihonoseki Lighthouse is a lighthouse located at Jizozaki, the eastern tip of the Shimane Peninsula. It is located on a rock 73m above sea level and is 14m high. It was built in 1898 to a design by a French engineer. It is a stately stone building that retains its 19th century appearance. After 1962, technological advances made it unmanned. The beautiful stone building next door is a restaurant and was previously the official residence of the lighthouse staff. I was moved to see Mt. Daisen faintly across the sea. Mt. Daisen is the highest mountain in the Chugoku region, located in Tottori Prefecture, at an altitude of 1,729 m. In 2007, Mihoseki Lighthouse was the first active lighthouse in the country to be registered as a nationally registered tangible cultural property, and in 2022, it was designated as a nationally important cultural property.

1898年にフランス人技師の設計で建てられました。19世紀の面影をとどめた石造りの風格のある建造物です。
1962年以降は技術の進歩で無人化されました。隣接する石造りの美しい建物はレストランで、以前は灯台職員の官舎でした。
海の向こうにうっすらと大山（だいせん）が見えて感動しました。大山は鳥取県にある標高1,729 mの中国地方最高峰の山です。
美保関燈台は2007年に現役の灯台として全国で初めて国の登録有形文化財に登録され、2022年には、国の重要文化財に指定されました。
