秘境と絶景!崖淵の地蔵堂に挑む | Hidden Frontier & Spectacular View: Conquering the Cliffside Jizo Shrine

Hey there! Today on YuruHori, we’re off to Jizogura,
a cliff shrine near Hijiori Onsen A scenic power spot,
where 1,200 years of prayers still linger. It’s about a 1 hour and 40 minute drive from Yamagata City. Our first stop is Yakushi Shrine,
located in the heart of Hijiori Onsen town. From there, a mountain trail leads up to Jizogura.
The path is well maintained. Even with a GPS, Yakushi Shrine can be a little tricky to find. We casually glanced to the side—
and there it was, our destination. Is there a parking spot? Just nearby, we found a free parking lot for visitors. The sound of flowing water echoing through the onsen town feels so soothing. After coming back from Jizogura,
We’d love to take a stroll through the onsen town. Passing through the torii gate of Yakushi Shrine. It looks like the trailhead is just up these steps. This is the main hall of Yakushi Shrine. The trailhead should be just behind the main hall. ”Pretty sure… that’s it right there.” There it is! Found the trail. From here, it’s said to be a 40-minute hike to Jizogura. The distance is 1.1 kilometers. Whoa, we’re climbing this? It’s steeper than I expected. Watch your step — it’s a bit slippery down here. You never know what’s out there,
so He’s got the bear spray ready. The scent of greenery is intense here. She’s climbing with ease, even while filming along the way. The arrow says to head right. Not that way —
we need to take this narrow, animal-trail-looking path uphill. Without this sign, it’d be easy to head the wrong way. This pretty much feels like a wild boar trail now. We’re in a beech forest now. This is absolutely amazing, isn’t it? Wait… are we really supposed to go this way? At this point… this is just straight-up mountain. No doubt about it. She’s found a huge leaf! Maybe it’s a chestnut leaf? The trail’s turning into a proper jungle now. Are we really allowed to go this way…? He’s found something good. It’s a beekeeping spot. They probably won’t sting… I hope. As long as we don’t bother them, they won’t bother us… right? So… should we just say hello and move on? Swatting at them like that might actually get you stung. We’re getting closer to Jizogura. Around 1,200 years ago, a monk named Gennoh from Bungo Province visited this place. He was taught about the healing power of the hot springs by a manifestation of Jizo living in the rock cave. Gennoh stayed here and shared the healing effects of these hot springs with the nearby villagers. There’s a legend like that here. This is a large rock that broke off long ago from the tuff cliff. A small Jizo statue is enshrined in the sacred niche. The trail starts to get steep and rugged. Whoa! What is this place?! What a sheer cliff this is… Why is it built in a place like this? Whoa! Wait, we’re actually climbing up this crazy steep spot? She’s following behind me now. Is she visible on the footage? Whoa! There it is,,,. We’ve arrived. Suddenly, a hawk-like bird started to swoop down and warn us off. According to legend, an old monk— a manifestation of Jizo—once lived in this rock cave. We imagine his presence. Local inns and others are said to take care of maintaining Jizogura. We’re grateful for the chance to have such a rare experience. Alright, let’s go! Carefully making our way down to avoid slipping. The view is so incredible, we forget to even talk. It’s terrifying… Let’s pause filming for a moment—if we don’t hold onto the railing, we might fall. This isn’t a joke. This is truly life-risking. She’s walking with a cautious, hunched posture. Yakushi Shrine is coming into view. It’s a relief to see it. We take a short stroll through the onsen town. This cool post office was built in 1937. We’ll save the charming, nostalgic onsen town for a leisurely visit next time. Thanks for watching!
