This time we will visit Nagahama Castle Ruins from here. 【Statue of the Meeting between Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Ishida Mitsunari】 You can see the mock castle tower from the station. Let’s check the route on the map. This is Nagahama Station, where we are now. And our destination is Nagahama Castle Ruins. It takes about 7 minutes on foot from the station. Let’s go straight away. We have arrived at Hokoen Park. Hokoen Park is a comprehensive park built on the ruins of Nagahama Castle. Let’s take a look at the park information board at the entrance. If you go straight from where you are now, you will find the Nagahamaba Historical Museum, and beyond that, the remains of the castle tower and the Taiko Well. Nagahama Castle was built by Hashiba Hideyoshi around 1573. The area, originally called “Imahama,” was given the name “Nobunaga” and renamed Nagahama. After Hashiba Hideyoshi, Hori Hidemasa, Shibata Katsutoyo, and Yamauchi Katsutoyo served as the castle lords. During the Edo period, Naito Nobunari and Nobumasa became the castle lords, but in 1615, the castle was abandoned due to the transfer of the Naito clan. Materials from the abandoned castle site were moved to Hihikone Castle and Daidouji Temple. It is said that Hikone Castle’s Tenbin Yagura Tower was relocated from Nagahama Castle’s Otemon Gate.
