⁴ᴷ Yamagata: Tsuruoka Station (山形県: 鶴岡駅) – Japan Walking Tour (June, 2025)

I set out on a journey through the Tohoku region via Niigata. The trip happened to coincide with the start of the rainy season, and in the first half, both rain and equipment troubles made filming difficult. Fortunately, the weather improved in the latter half, and as I gradually got used to the newly introduced gear, I was able to resume filming. However, after switching to a new bicycle, I noticed a persistent clicking noise being picked up during rides, which has become an issue I’ll need to address moving forward.

On this day, I traveled from Morioka City in Iwate Prefecture, passed through Akita, and made my way to both Sakata and Tsuruoka in Yamagata Prefecture. Near Tsuruoka Station, the restaurant district was fairly lively, with what looked like company gatherings or group outings taking place. Down some of the narrower side streets, I saw women chatting outside what seemed to be hostess bars or girls’ bars.

A bit of a walk from the station leads to an arcade shopping street, which was quiet overall, but one café stood out. At night, it transforms into a bar, with music playing and an open, inviting atmosphere. From the outside, it looked warm and welcoming—almost enough to make me want to stop in for a drink.
