淡季來渡假,說不定比東南亞還划算!先解鎖大多數人沒去過的北海道南部,有海、有溫泉、還有超便宜的海鮮住宿!
Continuing from the previous two episodes of the Hokkaido off-season budget travel series, In this episode, we’ll be driving south to Hakodate, visiting attractions along the way. Along the way, we’ll take you to explore a hidden gem that almost no Taiwanese YouTubers have unboxed/featured. Otobe Town, known as the “Little Britain’s White Cliffs.” Of course, we won’t miss out on the local seafood delicacies along the way. After this episode, what we’ve always thought – that enjoying large rooms and all-you-can-eat breakfast resort style is best found in Southeast Asia – But Hakodate, Hokkaido, completely shattered this impression. The value for money during the off-season can even directly surpass Southeast Asia. We found a ridiculously amazing hotel. The room is incredibly spacious, it comes with a hot spring, and breakfast is an all-you-can-eat seafood donburi. A triple room for one night is unbelievably only NT$2,400. This is basically a dream trip where you buy breakfast and get accommodation for free! This is Oshamanbe Sanpachi Restaurant. A very unique shop name, it’s that “Sanpachi.” And today we’re heading from Lake Toya to Hakodate. On the way, we’ll pass through this place called Oshamanbe. And this place is most famous for horsehair crabs and scallops. So we found a restaurant that has good reviews and is very popular with locals to eat these things. Right, when you’re by the sea, you eat seafood. Like when we go to Ruifang, we eat things like seafood rice noodles. And here, they have things like seafood ramen and so on. This bowl is fried rice. Do you think it’s ordinary fried rice? No, it has crab meat on top. It should be real crab meat. We wouldn’t come all this way… Right, they wouldn’t serve canned stuff here or processed products. Let me tell you, what’s most famous here is the crab bento, the crab meat in that bento is the air-dried kind of crab meat. So many people say it’s too dry. This restaurant’s fried rice has fresh crab meat on top. It’s like what a city with a surplus of seafood does. I even gave some to Grandpa. This is 950 yen. 950 Japanese yen. Next is this one, I forgot if it’s called Howan Don or Wanho Don. The point is, inside there are many scallops. And this set is 1,000 yen. It has two scallops, and around them are all scallop frills. So many. This is all shellfish. Hey, I think it’s a great deal. If I went near my house, I probably couldn’t get this. I haven’t eaten anything yet that I can’t get in Taiwan. This bowl is also very delicious. Inside, it’s full of the sweetness of shellfish, plus it’s originally stewed with a slightly sweet soy sauce. So when you eat it, it’s just fresh and sweet. But Japanese people, they really like to take one thing and amplify it. There are no other ingredients, so it tastes a bit monotonous. I just had a bite and thought it was very delicious because it’s so fresh and sweet. This bowl is the signature dish of this restaurant, Hamayaki Seafood Ramen. Look at how abundant the seafood inside is! There’s this one, wow, it’s so big. Hey, this bowl is over NT$200, look how big this is. And inside, there’s also that scallop. Scallop. Let’s pick it up and see. Such a complete scallop. It’s so big! And this should be a mussel or something. Fresh mussel. Yes, something like that. And shrimp. This ramen is very interesting. A while ago, we went to the North Coast, and smelled the Green Stone Trough area, the smell of seawater. And this soup really recreates that smell. And actually, I think Lai Yi Ke instant noodles also quite well recreate that seafood soup flavor. This tastes a lot like a richer version of Lai Yi Ke. It’s like something scooped directly from the sea and eaten right away. It’s that very fresh taste. And because it’s salt-flavored, it’s salty. Very delicious. A simple and delicious taste. And then, Grandma ordered a more Chinese-style dish, this thick noodle soup, it also looks delicious. We’ll tell you more after we finish eating. We ordered a portion of gyoza for the kids. And the gyoza look super delicious. It’s the first time I’ve ordered gyoza in Japan that made me feel like, “Wow, I really want to eat that!” You really hate Japanese gyoza. They’re very small and not as good as Taiwanese ones. Yes, that’s right. Let’s try the pan-fried gyoza. The kids couldn’t finish them, so it’s my turn. Hey, they’re quite big! It takes two or three bites to finish one. Usually, those from Osaka Ohsho or Gyoza no Ohsho, you can eat two in one bite. Inside, it’s basically minced cabbage, very fresh and sweet. And although it looks big and filling, actually, its skin and filling have a gap between them. But it’s still delicious. I’m telling you, this shop feels like a Chinese restaurant. Right? These gyoza too. That’s right, that’s right, delicious. Let me tell you, it’s super exaggerated. Just now, this bowl of miso soup even had small baby scallops. I originally thought it was just ordinary. And this small dish just now, it’s marinated with something that tastes a bit like sake. marinated. Such a good deal. It’s really unbelievable. My current mood is (full of happiness – Taiwanese dialect). Please pay attention to your driving speed. This is Uchiura Bay Panorama Park. We thought that on such a long journey, we should still take the kids to burn off some energy. Otherwise, they’d be too bored. This is a prefectural park in Hokkaido. These kinds of national parks in Japan, honestly, needless to say, the facilities inside are very good, and it’s completely free. Because Hokkaido is currently in late winter, early spring, it’s still quite cold outside, and the snow has just melted. So the outdoor part is not yet tidied up and not open. There is playground equipment outside. Yes, so we brought the kids to play indoors. And the indoor part is actually more than enough. Is it fun? Fun! You’re going to hit someone! There are no small toys here, it’s designed for you to burn energy by running around. Look at this space, it’s huge, but there’s not much in it. Because all the play equipment is designed in the corners, upstairs. Hey, let me tell you, it’s very warm inside here. So I think Tamsui (in Taiwan) could really use this. Like this area is for very young children. Older and younger children should be separated for safety. These kinds of parks in Japan are always built in scenic places. So when adults bring children to play, they won’t feel bored. At least there’s scenery to look at. And there are even many parks that combine other functions. Like, we’ve encountered ones where you can play golf. I don’t know if this one has it. Usually, for our children’s play facilities, if there’s a place selling light meals attached, you should be grateful. But they don’t just sell light meals here, they sell set meals, and it also has some souvenirs. You can even get Shiroi Koibito ice cream here. So tempting. There are quite a few parents sitting over there, enjoying a leisurely moment, looking at the scenery. Discovered something very interesting. It says here this is the birthplace of herb-fed chicken. About thirty years ago, they were originally raising chickens here. One day, suddenly, the chickens stopped eating their feed. He found out they were all eating the herbs nearby. And later, it was discovered that these chickens didn’t get sick, and they grew particularly well. When eaten, they didn’t have much gamey taste. Gamey taste. Yes, and the fat distribution was also particularly good. So, this breeding method spread from here throughout the country. So later we started seeing herb-fed pork, herb-fed beef. So this is the place where the idea originated. We’ve now come to the souvenir shop here. And found, hey, there’s Fujiya inside. And only now do I realize that Fujiya (Peko-chan) was actually founded in Yakumo Town, Hokkaido. This is Yakumo Town. The most beautiful scenery of this place is none other than this bay and this sea of trees that complements it. Actually, this place, why is it called Uchiura Bay (噴火灣 – Eruption Bay)? It’s because when British ships arrived here, they saw this bay and next to it, there was a volcano. So they named it Eruption Bay (噴火灣). But actually, looking at it from English, it should be the two words “Volcano” and “Bay.” I don’t know why it was translated as Eruption Bay (噴火灣). Volcano Bay, like that. Right. On our way to Hakodate, we took a detour to this place called Todohara Coast. And this place has a strange rock called Kuguri Iwa (Pass-through Rock). People say that here, it’s a continuous stretch of white cliffs. And this hole, it’s not naturally formed. It was excavated over four hundred years ago due to the needs of the herring fishing industry. It was excavated to meet their needs. And when I was looking at this information, I kept feeling very puzzled. How could it be because of the need for fishing, and not naturally formed? Super, super strange. And how did they dig this hole over four hundred years ago? The information I could find is actually very scarce. Because I think very few tourists from outside would know about this place. Most of them are local Japanese tourists. So there’s very little information in Chinese. So if I’ve said anything wrong and you know, please leave a comment to add to it. People who have been here, many say it’s worth a look. Because this kind of cliff, white cliff, you can usually only see in England. They feel it’s very much like the white cliffs of England, so they recommend everyone to come see it. Actually, from my perspective, if you’re like us, who usually live on the North Coast (of Taiwan), I don’t think you’ll feel a huge difference. But I think it’s still different from the one at Shimen (in Taiwan) because its rock wall, the thickness, is actually not very thick, maybe just this wide. The thickness… No, it’s this whole piece, but if you look at the entire thing, that white cliff fault is very special. This whole stretch over here is like that. Yes, yes, yes. So I think if you Hey, if you like going to the seaside, I think you can come and see it. I think it’s quite special. We should probably run now, because we’re standing next to a giant’s foot. Don’t you think it really looks like a giant’s foot? And also, its foot is the kind with two toes. It looks like the socks they wear for flip-flops, you know? It looks like two toes like this. I’ll fly the drone in a bit to show everyone. Basically, the cliff face next to it is all like this, and a magnified version. Alright, I’ll just show everyone. I don’t think many people who come to Hokkaido would come to this kind of place, so I’ll fly the drone for everyone to see. Alright, we’ve arrived at this Takise Coast White Cliffs. Isn’t it beautiful? And just over there is its weathered area. Let me show you. Wow. I’ll continue to fly the drone here later for a close-up. Close-up for everyone to see. And I think if you really Hey, are wandering around Hokkaido for a long time, I think it’s recommended to come. Because it’s really quite special. I haven’t seen it anywhere else. And if you really want to see this, you might have to go to England. Although it might not be as spectacular as in England. Alright, for everyone’s reference. I think very few YouTubers have filmed this. Am I the first one? Probably not. Wow, look, it’s that light! Has everyone seen this commercial? My wife still decided to come take a look. Do you think it’s beautiful? It’s quite special. But if you ask if it’s very beautiful, I think it’s a matter of opinion. This is the kind of place that looks beautiful in photos, but when you actually see it, well, it’s still a matter of opinion. I think it’s quite beautiful to see in person too. My dad was very amazed just now. Really? Really. My mom also said, “Oh, good thing we came.” For everyone’s reference. Oh, actually, you should go down to see it to appreciate its grandeur more, because after all, you’re looking up, right? You’ll feel that the cliff that rock face is very high. Giving everyone an immersive feeling. I think for such a remote place, to build such a new and excellent toilet, it has ambition. Not bad, not bad, not bad. I think this will probably be a major attraction in the next five to ten years. One key factor in judging how popular a Japanese attraction is is its toilet facilities. How amazing they are. Usually, if your toilet inside has heating, the toilet seat is warm, and there’s hot water, wow, this attraction is super amazing. Weren’t you just saying how amazing it was? It’s just that if the toilet is a bit dirty, and you initially thought you might have to clean it manually, but no, it then started to aim at the stain and then cleaned itself. How could it be dirty? Did you just… (go number two)? Oh, no, it wasn’t my fault. Alright, that’s it. This toilet really seems quite amazing. Hey, If you don’t want to watch, you can skip ahead. I’m going to use the toilet. Wow, it’s really clean. So new. This place is really impressive. Just to get Eiichiro Oda to draw GLAY like this, is very much worth coming to see. Look, there’s even a signature, so amazing. I’ve been to Hokkaido so many times, and I still haven’t eaten a Lucky Pierrot burger. Today I can finally eat it. You’re here for a re-test. Hey, it’s a great deal! This is really big. I haven’t eaten it in a long time, I’d forgotten it was this big. We calculated the price, and thought it should be similar to eating at MOS Burger. And just now we were thinking, hmm, coming here to eat burgers, Grandpa and Grandma might not be used to it. But unexpectedly, there’s also donburi (rice bowls) to eat. And it’s a great deal. Yes, we ordered a fried chicken bento and a pork cutlet rice bowl. And these rice dishes are roughly around 800-900 yen. Oh, 700 to 900, no, between 600 and 900 Japanese yen. The one we’re eating at is the Hakodate Station front store. Hey, it’s a very lively place, but actually at this time, there’s no one on the streets. It’s only 6 PM. And I really love the atmosphere of this shop. It’s super retro, the lights above are all stained glass. And it doesn’t feel like a fast-food restaurant. Let me tell you, its original flagship store looked something like this. This is already very luxurious because I’ve only eaten at the flagship store. Mmm-hmm. And its, let me tell you, its entrance is full of souvenirs. It has already come out with its own clothes, its own merchandise. I don’t think it was like this when I was here before. And it hasn’t really raised its prices much. This shop looks like that kind of Astoria Cafe (in Taipei). Retro, old-style, mm. Many of their branches are like this. We ordered five burgers. It’s basically a fried chicken burger. And the other toppings, you can also order them separately, without chicken is also OK. Or fried chicken plus cheese, plus egg, and so on, there are many variations. I remember its taste, it’s a bit like delicious Korean fried chicken, and then wrapped in that burger bun. Try it and see if it’s like that. So delicious! But, we don’t think it’s the world’s most delicious. However, if you calculate it, it’s actually cheaper than MOS Burger or McDonald’s. Because a single burger is around just over 400 yen. Everyone can calculate, that’s less than NT$100. And the chicken inside is very large. Although there’s quite a bit of mayonnaise, because it has a slightly sour taste, I think it’s quite refreshing. It doesn’t get to the point of feeling gross. Because I’m actually someone who doesn’t like mayonnaise. And then, its bread bun, I think it’s like the kind we often eat, from Mei&Mei or My Warm Day (Taiwanese breakfast chains). The good, tasty kind of burger bun. Let me tell you, if there’s a combo meal, you have to order it because its fries are super delicious. Basically, potatoes in Hokkaido are super delicious. Yes. Okay, and then its fries also have cheese and meat sauce. That meat sauce is not tomato meat sauce, I think it’s more like a steak sauce. Delicious, delicious. So I recommend everyone, if you haven’t tried it, give it a try. After you try it, you’ll want to eat it again, and again, and again, like that. Today we’re staying at Hakodate’s Global View Hotel. And tomorrow, we’ll also have a seafood donburi buffet breakfast. And the room seems quite large. We’ll go take a look later. We booked two rooms, one is 41 tsubo (approx 135 sqm).
(Note: 41 tsubo seems excessively large for a standard hotel room, likely an exaggeration or specific suite type) Let’s see. Today we’re staying in room 836. Because today is a bit hectic, so I’ll do a simple unboxing for everyone. Let’s start from the entrance. Starting from my side, the entrance hall is very small. All the shoes are squeezed by the door, but you’re wrong. Because the shoe cabinet is over here, super large. Just like that, what’s it called… like a walk-in closet. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Oh my god, this really feels like a small walk-in closet. Let me show you, a separate toilet. This compartment is the bathroom, we’ll look at it later. Let’s look at this small living room first. It’s quite comfortable, there’s a sofa. But actually, this room is a 2+1 bed setup. The extra bed is on this sofa. It’s a sofa bed. Next is the bedroom. Two 110cm single beds. Let’s take a look at its closet. Oh, it’s actually quite big, you could just have the kids sleep in there. I really want to decorate my own home like this. This kind is very convenient. Yeah. And there’s a bed under here. It’s for me to make the sofa bed. Its mattress is quite thick, so I think you can directly put it on the floor like a tatami mat. I’m not sleeping on the floor. Now, filming from the room outwards, what does the living room look like? This living room, next to it, there’s also a small kitchen. And there’s no open flame. But you can heat up some things a bit, or prepare some simple things to eat, that’s possible. It has a microwave, and below it, there’s an induction cooker. But it doesn’t provide pots. I’ve already checked, I don’t need to look again. Oh, but there are utensils. Yes, yes, so there are plates and things, all there. So, you can only microwave. The fridge is quite large, but there’s nothing inside. You have to buy your own things to stock it. And look at this TV next to it. It looks like an LG StanbyME. Finally, let’s look at the bathroom. There’s actually its own washing machine. And this is the washstand, and then inside there’s a bathroom, it’s a wet/dry separation. You can take a bath inside or shower, both are possible. The bathroom is very spacious, two people can wash together. One person can soak in the tub inside, and one person can shower here. This is like a unit bath, but I think it’s a larger type, I think it’s not bad. This hotel also has a hot spring you can soak in. I heard it’s also quite impressive. And tomorrow’s breakfast, we’ll film it for everyone tomorrow. This room, for Japanese standards, is really big. Super big. And if the breakfast is delicious, I’ll tell everyone tomorrow how much this one costs. Actually, it’s quite OK, quite a good deal. We’re here for breakfast. The breakfast is super luxurious. So, their breakfast is served in time slots. Otherwise, the restaurant is too small and might not fit so many people. Let me tell you, what surprised me the most is that they actually have alcohol with breakfast. And not just any kind, it’s red wine, white wine, and sake, three types for you to choose from. There are also many types of sashimi. Just by taking sashimi, my plate is already full. I haven’t even gotten to the other cooked foods yet. The cooked food section is actually very impressive too. This is what my husband got. They have this small squid stuffed with rice, or something like squid stuffed with rice. I just had a bite of the fried fish fillet. The fried fish fillet is very delicious, and their food warming is done very well. And these other things next to it also look very good. There’s a beef slice dish that looks amazing. I’ll get that later. This place doesn’t have unlimited salmon roe. Their salmon roe is mixed into the rice. And what we also see is crab meat. So actually, I think this rice is impressive enough. And this raw egg, we cracked it in ourselves. Usually, crab meat rice is very expensive. And they just let you have it all-you-can-eat for breakfast. Amazing. Later, if you knew the price of this hotel, your jaw would definitely drop. Really. Jaw dislocated. Alright, let’s eat first and then tell everyone our final thoughts. The sashimi here is of a very high standard. It’s kind of like what we’d get at a regular seafood donburi restaurant outside. Of course, not the level of famous restaurants, but it’s like that. Delicious! I think this is the best quality sashimi we’ve had in the past few days. Actually, the taste is also the best among these. The smoked salmon is super delicious. Just right. Usually, this kind of thing they give you is mediocre. But this one is very fresh and delicious. Very delicious. Even the salmon that doesn’t look amazing, tastes much better than the others. It’s much tastier. Let me tell you, that tuna paste is also amazing. It tastes very fresh and lively. Usually, this is the kind of thing I dislike the most. But this one is super delicious. Its meat is super fatty, I haven’t tried it yet. But it looks really delicious. Really delicious, really delicious. Breakfast is finished! We are truly very satisfied. With such a lineup, even if it were served for dinner, I wouldn’t think it was too simple. My mom was discussing, if this were in Taiwan, for such a breakfast, we’d be willing to pay NT$600 per person. So for our family of four, 600 times 4 is 2400, NT$2,400. Our accommodation price for this night should be less than NT$2,400. Yes, it’s a triple room. Yeah, and let me tell you, do you know what today is? Saturday night, Sunday morning. Yes, so this is the weekend price. If it were a weekday, it would be even cheaper. So here we go again, is it accommodation with free breakfast, or breakfast with free accommodation? Yeah, and our stay yesterday was also very comfortable. Yes, that room, I actually felt like I was on vacation in Thailand. Resort hotels in Thailand are like that, I mean, apartment-style hotels look like that. I think if you want to stay in a place like this in Thailand and eat breakfast like this, it might actually be more expensive than this price. So I think this place is super great. If I have time someday, I would specially come to Hakodate to stay here, I’d still think it’s great, like that. If it’s just the two of us, we can book a double room, that’s only a little over a thousand, less than two thousand. So cheap. Including that amazing breakfast. I would feel a bit ashamed staying here on a weekday. This breakfast is too amazing. Forgot to mention its hot spring, its hot spring is also great. A bit less impressive than the APA we stayed at a few days ago, because that APA was too strong. This one also has indoor and outdoor baths. I give the hot spring 80 points. Alright, that’s it for this episode. This accommodation is really highly recommended. Because not only is the room nice, their breakfast is also really super delicious. Definitely worth staying for a night. Next, we will continue to unfold our two-day, one-night itinerary in Hakodate. The accommodation in the next episode is an upgraded version. It’s a super value “ippaku nishoku” (one night, two meals). Not only dinner and breakfast are all-you-can-eat seafood feasts, a triple room actually only costs 21,500 yen. The best part is their hot spring is amazing. The room is also very comfortable. Of course, the Hakodate attractions filled with a Showa retro atmosphere, Hakodate attractions, we’ll also take everyone to explore them in the next episode. See you in the next episode, bye-bye! See you next episode, bye-bye! Oh, this is outrageously good! This is also very delicious!
