【愛媛県を巡る旅】愛媛県のレトロな街並みを巡る旅。松山城や道後温泉などの定番観光地の他に、しまなみを一望できる絶景展望台や内子や大洲のレトロな街並みをご紹介します。

Hello everyone! This time we are going on a trip to see Ehime! It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes by plane from Tokyo to Matsuyama Airport. ① Kirosan Observation Park We came to Kirosan Observation Park on Oshima, across from Imabari City. Kirosan Observation Park, located at an altitude of 301.1m, is located at the southern tip of Oshima and is designated as part of the Seto Inland Sea National Park. Head to the Panorama Observatory Bridge, known for its design by the world-famous architect Kengo Kuma. At the top of the stairs… Wow, what a panorama! There are two observation decks with no obstructions in front of you, and you can enjoy a panoramic view from either side. Head to the other observation deck. Kengo Kuma’s architecture is also amazing. The blue sky, sea, and scattered islands are beautiful. A bridge connecting islands. This is the Shimanami Kaido! This is the view. I’ve also introduced a bicycle trip on the Shimanami Kaido on YouTube. In the video, along with the beautiful scenery of Shimanami, the island’s gourmet food and great shops are introduced. Please watch it☺ ②Matsuyama Castle The cable car is a convenient way to get to Matsuyama Castle, so I recommend it. You can choose between the cable car or the lift. Which one you choose depends on the weather. I chose the lift. I took the lift at Amanohashidate too, but for some reason I always choose the lift. . . Oh! A cable car is coming up behind us! It’s a bigger cable car than I imagined. It doesn’t seem like there are many people on it. You can get to the castle right after you get off the lift! It’s actually a 10-minute walk to the castle. The stairs up to the castle are gentle, so it’s easy on your feet. What an impressive stone wall!!! We enter the castle at fast forward. We can see the castle tower. We’ve arrived. We pay the entrance fee and go inside. Construction of Matsuyama Castle began in 1602, and it took about a quarter of a century to complete. I wonder if this winding road is to prevent enemies from invading? The castle tower has three floors above ground and one below. There are a row of holes in the wall. It seems that enemies were attacked from here with bows and arrows. Let’s enter the tower. It seems that shoes are not allowed inside, so we change into slippers. There are pamphlets in five languages. Matsuyama Castle was selected as one of the “100 Great Castles of Japan” in 2006. The interior of Matsuyama Castle was larger than I imagined! It’s amazing. The exhibits inside include armor and scrolls Artworks Swords, spears, and more. The black painted walls are cool. I found a place where I could see the castle tower up close. An experience corner where you can try on armor for free. A little guest from overseas trying on armor. So cool! He’ll definitely be popular at school! Looks like you can try it on in VR. “The Mysterious Princess and the Phantom Battle” Is it an anime or a live-action movie? If you’re curious, please come and visit Matsuyama Castle. From the top floor of the castle tower you can get a panoramic view of Matsuyama city, stretching all the way to the distant mountains. Going down these stairs in rubber slippers is quite a thrilling experience. I’d like to go back to town and have lunch. For lunch, we’ll have Ehime’s specialty dish, “Taimeshi”! In front of the shop is a mandarin orange juice vending machine. Just turn on the tap and the juice will come out. I love Taimeshi! I’m looking forward to it♪ One portion of Taimeshi costs 2,180 yen, and if you order 1.5 times the amount of sea bream, it will be 3,160 yen. You can get a set with Ehime’s specialty, jacoten, for an additional 300 yen. The sea bream rice has arrived!! There’s a lot of rice! The sea bream is the normal amount. Staff>>Please beat the eggs and put the sea bream sashimi and seasonings in them. Please mix the ingredients together with the sauce. Next, move some of the rice from the rice container into a bowl Put the ingredients that you just mixed on top of the rice in the bowl, little by little, and enjoy. Finally, sprinkle some shredded nori seaweed on top and eat. Enjoy. As instructed, beat the eggs with the sauce. Put the sea bream sashimi into the sauce. Put all the sashimi in. Add the condiments. Mix well. The sashimi looks delicious♡ Transfer the rice from the rice container to a rice bowl. Put the ingredients on top of the rice Put on some chopped nori and it’s done. I wonder how it feels for foreigners, as it’s all raw food. If I come again, I’ll eat the sea bream rice. I ate all the rice. Thank you for the meal. ③Dogo Onsen Main Building I’ve come to the popular tourist spot “Dogo Onsen Main Building.” A full view of Dogo Onsen Main Building. When you look from a distance, you can see that it’s a large building. The atmosphere is similar to the bathhouse in the Ghibli movie “Spirited Away”. The retro building is picturesque. As you would expect in Shikoku, there are also pilgrims walking around. The “Yudama” logo, the symbol of Dogo Onsen. Entering the building. The amount of shoe lockers is amazing! How many people can fit in there?! I handed my ticket over to the reception and went inside. It appears that repairs were carried out between 2019 and 2024, and the interior is in very good condition. There are signs in multiple languages to guide you. It has been reborn in a modern style. I bought the cheapest ticket, which includes a rest room. The ticket includes tea and rice crackers. Original rice crackers? Snacks are better than baths. I’ll eat them right away. It was simple, but somehow very delicious☺ You can’t take photos in the bath, so if you’re interested, please check out the website in the description. I felt refreshed after taking a bath. Across from the hot spring is a bustling shopping street where you can enjoy shopping and other activities. Rickshaws are parked next to the entrance, and you can ride one for 10 minutes for 1,500 yen. ④Yokaichi/Gokoku Streets Uchiko was a town famous for its wood wax production from the late Edo period to the Taisho period. It was a town that flourished, and the streets of Yokaichi and Gokoku still retain a strong trace of that atmosphere. In 1982, it was the first area in Shikoku to be designated as an Important Preservation District for Traditional Buildings, and the 600m street is lined with traditional townhouses and wealthy merchants’ mansions, still in their original form. There seems to be a fruit and vegetable store on the street that locals frequent. The old buildings are also charming. There is a massage parlor on the other side of the street. The house of a wealthy merchant who made his fortune from wood wax has been turned into a museum. It’s a pretty big mansion! There is a fee to tour the inside of the house, but you can enter the garden for free. Tools used in making wood wax are on display. You can tour the inside of the Machiya Museum for free. This building was originally built in 1793 and has been restored. It is said to be the building that best retains the architectural features of the Edo period. Uchiko souvenirs I wonder what they have? There are crafts made from bamboo, grass and wood lined up. It is a souvenir shop with a simple and warm atmosphere. We arrived at Koshoji Temple at the end of the street. There is a large parking lot, and the temple may be an object of worship for locals. Our eyes are drawn to the stone walls made of stones of various shapes. There are several buildings lined up. We were able to enter the main hall. The inside seems much larger than it looks from the outside. The tatami room continues to the back. The door to the garden is open. Wow, what a beautiful garden with colorful plants and flowers. The head priest told me that the flowers in bloom are azaleas. What a gorgeous and beautiful canopy. The other furnishings are beautiful as well. It has a solemn atmosphere. There is a rare reclining Buddha outside. When you see the reclining Buddha, you want to see the soles of his feet. It is within walking distance from JR Uchiko Station, so if you like historical scenery, please come and visit. ⑤ Castle Town of Ozu Ozu is home to Ozu Castle, and the castle town is spread out around the castle. Take a stroll through the town, which still retains traces of the Edo and Meiji periods. This street is called “Ohanahan Street,” named after the location where the NHK morning drama series “Ohanahan” was filmed in this area in 1966. Carp are swimming in the waterway. I discovered a street where old houses had been stylishly renovated. I took a look around the shops on this street. This shop is a general goods store. The shop next door is a cafe. A cute bench♡ This is also a cafe, but it’s a Japanese sweets cafe. We took a break at the second cafe. The interior has been renovated and is very stylish. I ordered a strawberry frappe and got one with lots of strawberries!! Looks delicious♡ It also had strawberry ice cream and was very filling. It seems that the popular drama “Tokyo Love Story” was filmed here. I hope someone who sees this post will recognize it. I’ve come to the Ozu Red Brick Museum. The building is made of beautiful red bricks. The building that was originally the vault has been turned into a museum. I wonder if it’s okay for the vault to be in a separate building? It seems like it could be targeted. This is a photo of the celebration when this building was completed in 1901. In the photo of the bank, everyone is working in kimono. Kimono was still the mainstream in the Meiji era. Times have changed, and the bank has become a space for selling fashionable jams, beautiful accessories, cute miscellaneous goods. They’ve made good use of the old building by restoring it. I’ve seen Matsuyama Castle, so next time I’ll go inside Ozu Castle. The white noren curtains lined up opposite Ozu Castle are the accommodations of NIPPONIA HOTAL. It’s a renovated old house, and has become a stylish and comfortable accommodation. The special thing about this room is that you can see Ozu Castle right in front of you. It’s a decentralized hotel, and each room has its own characteristics. The room I stayed in was a renovated storehouse. It was a maisonette type and very comfortable. I’m also happy that there is a lounge that can be used for free♡ Hot drinks such as coffee, tea, and herbal tea Japanese sake, whiskey, and nuts In the fridge Asahi beer, Italian beer Chilean and Australian red and white wines, French champagne Others When you think of Ehime, you think of mandarin orange juice Sake from Ehime breweries Carbonated water, ginger ale, cola
All of these, including alcohol, are all-you-can-drink!! I was able to stay for under 20,000 yen, and personally, I was very satisfied with the accommodation☺ Details about the accommodation are introduced in the subchannel. I recommend Ehime Prefecture, where there are still few tourists and you can enjoy a relaxing trip!
