Kochi’s proud specialty, “Tosa Hachikin Jidori” (local free-range chicken), is known for its sweet, flavorful fat and firm texture. Despite its surprisingly low fat content, it’s juicy and rich in umami.
The secret to its delicious taste lies in its exceptional bloodline, including the Thoroughbred local breeds such as Ōshamo (Great Shamo) and Tosa Kuken.
Tosa Hachikin Jidori has also contributed to the revitalization of Ōkawa Village, a shrinking village, where Hachikin Jidori has now become known as a cherished local specialty through the dedicated efforts of the villagers.
At the “Ōkawa Village Carne-Festival”, visitors can fully enjoy the exquisite taste of Hachikin Jidori.

The name “Tosa Jirō” became famous because of its eggs.
At Ichi-en Farm, which makes use of the natural environment of the Shimanto River, Tosa Jirō chickens are raised stress-free, producing eggs with a deep orange yolk so firm they can be lifted with chopsticks.
At Hatayama Muraku, a full-course meal featuring Tosa Jirō meat is served, including charcoal-grilled chicken and even rare cuts, allowing diners to savor the deep and complex flavors of this exceptional local breed.
