Hello everyone, this is Watatabi. This time, I’m heading to a rustic, retro hot spring resort in Kagoshima Prefecture. It’s mid-May, but the rainy season is in full swing in southern Kyushu. The location is Kirishima City, located almost in the center of Kagoshima Prefecture. It’s a hot spring resort rich in nature that appears in the mountains. This time, I’d like to stop by the surrounding tourist spots as well. I’m staying tomorrow, but I found a nice private hot spring, so I’d like to introduce it to you. Meisui is the inn, and Sansui is the family bath. This is Sansui, the family bath . It’s raining, so I’ll go in right away. This is the reception desk. From here, there is a courtyard, and there are rooms with each hot spring. And this seems to be the hot spring you can drink. Since I’m here, I’ll try it. The smell of the hot spring is the taste as it is. By the way, the spring quality is bicarbonate spring. The source is 51 degrees. The room I’ll be using this time is right here from the reception desk. The hot spring at the very back is number 21, “Shirakashi”. Let’s go in. This is the reception desk. There are massage chairs that can be used for free. It feels like a rental lodge. There is an air conditioner, so you can cool off after you get out. They also sell alcohol. Payment is by cash. Behind this door is the hot spring. This is the dressing room. It is quite spacious. There is lotion, milky lotion, alcohol, and a hair dryer here. There are no other amenities, so you will need to bring your own towels. Opposite the washroom is the toilet. The toilet is also quite spacious. There are 21 family baths here. All rooms have an indoor bath and an open-air bath. The cheapest room is 2,000 yen per hour. The most expensive room is 4,700 yen. The next is 3,700 yen. The next is 2,700 yen. And the cheapest room is 2,000 yen. By the way, this is the room, and I chose the 3,700 yen room. This is finally the bath… This is the bathroom. The staff explained it to me, and I already stuck it in, but when you stick this in, the hot spring water comes out. Right now, the hot water is being stored. If you want to add more water, you can contact the front desk. You cannot drink the hot spring water. The front desk will call you 10 minutes before. This is the open-air bath. It’s so good! The open-air bath looks like this. It’s the best. And it’s 100% natural spring water. This is lukewarm water. Cold. And it smells really hot. Ah! It’s hot… I haven’t gotten used to the water yet, so it feels really hot. The open-air bath looked like this, but there’s even a sauna here! This looks like a mist sauna. I don’t go to saunas very often, so I don’t know much about it, so I’m not sure what a mist sauna is… but I’ll take a look inside. It looks like this. Hot! It’s pretty hot. There’s enough space for two adults to sit. There is a TV in the sauna. The water has accumulated. They said that the source is about 51 degrees, so you can’t bathe without adding water. This is it. You can add water here. I’ll add water. It seems that you can also add water to the open-air bath here, so I’ll add water because it’s too hot to bathe in. The flow has gotten stronger. I think the water has been added. It’s now at a comfortable temperature for bathing. It’s still hot…it’s still hot… I added quite a bit of water, but it’s still hot. The water is just right. It feels smooth on the skin. There are some floating sediments, which are the ingredients of the hot spring. There are quite a few family baths in Myoken Onsen, where I’m going now, but most of them cost 1,000 yen per adult plus the space fee, so if you go with two adults, it will cost about 4,000 yen. It ‘s much cheaper than the family baths at Myoken Onsen. Over there, you can bathe in a natural location, but this is a man-made garden. The warm water gets a little rain, but the rain feels good. It’s so luxurious. One hour is really not enough. It’s nice to take an open-air bath on a rainy day. Since I’m here, I’ll also take a sauna bath. It’s cool… it’s really cool. The spring quality was really good. It’s a little hot, but it’s not a problem because you can bathe in it by adding water. I didn’t have time to get in this massage chair. There was no cider, so I bought some matches. I can’t stop sweating. Sweat is pouring out. Well, I’m going to go now. I’m going to sleep well tonight, and tomorrow morning, I’m going to the hot spring resort while sightseeing. Good morning. The weather is really bad… First, I’ll stop at a place called “Oidemizu no Yusui” about 15km away from Myoken Onsen. We’ve arrived. This is a place called “Oidemizu no Yusui”. It seems that 22 tons of water springs out every minute. Unfortunately, it’s out of order. It seems that everyone draws water here. “When it is crowded, please be considerate and park for a short time.” It doesn’t have many reviews on Google Maps, but it is crowded, so I think it is a place loved by locals. “Please do not use the pump as a shower after playing in the river” means that it is okay to play in this river. By the way, this river… it is very muddy from yesterday’s heavy rain. Since I’m here, I’ll go to see the bottom. Oh, it’s so beautiful. It springs from here. I see. The color of the river is blue. It seems to spring from here. Wow… the transparency is amazing. It springs from below. It’s flowing from here too… It’s flowing from here too. Thanks to the muddy water, you can see how beautiful this spring water is. Usually it’s shallow and I think you can enter, but today it’s swollen from yesterday’s rain. I wanted to take pictures of the valley while dipping my feet, but I don’t think I can. There is a very mysterious place ahead, but I can’t go today. It’s out of order, but there are a few customers who come to get water from the spring we were talking about. We head to our next destination. It’s not a tourist spot, but more like a place where locals come to get water. But in the summer it seems to be bustling with people swimming here. We head for an open-air hot spring about 900m away from Myoken Onsen. From here we head down a narrow path into the valley. Is this it? Is this the parking lot? There he is! Amazing! He must like hot springs. We arrived. I think this is the parking lot for the hot spring called “Wake-yu”. Google Maps showed this as a parking lot, so we headed towards the hot spring from here. By the way, is the hot spring a natural hot spring? It is a free hot spring. I think there will probably be customers, so I will go and see what it is like. A couple was in there, so I will go back later. It was an awkward atmosphere between us, so I will enter the hot spring after they leave. The customers left, so I will go in. This is it. It seems like you can go here too. I don’t know what’s there. Yes, we arrived. It is well maintained and doesn’t feel like a natural hot spring, but you can bathe in this beautiful scenery. This is the hot spring, but if you go 700m along this promenade, there seems to be a waterfall, so I want to sweat first before entering the hot spring. So I will head for the waterfall first. It’s 700m, so it will take quite a while. It says it’s a promenade, but it’s quite a mountain path. It’s humid, so it’s covered in moss. Today is Sunday, but there are hardly any people in the hot spring. So, I wonder if there are people who go to this waterfall too. I hope the road is not damaged… I can smell an old house. It has a unique smell like ruins. 700m is quite far. There seems to be an observation deck, so maybe I can go there from the road side, but since I’m here, I’d like to walk this promenade to the waterfall. By the way, it seems that there are not many bears in Kyushu. I’m not sure if there are 100% none, but it seems that I hardly see them. If it hadn’t rained, this river would have been beautiful. I’ve walked a few hundred meters, but it’s not a road with ups and downs. The road continues like this all the time, so it’s not tiring. I don’t know if this is the right way, but I came to the point where there are only 250m left in no time. I really haven’t walked at all. That’s if that sign is correct. This area smells of hot springs. Ah, maybe I came from this side after all. From the road side… I could see the waterfall. Normally I can’t tell what kind of waterfall it is, but after the rain, it’s pretty nasty. There is a path to go down here too. Maybe this is the path to the basin of the waterfall. It’s right there. It seems like there is an observation deck right in front of the waterfall. I continue walking along the valley surrounded by deep greenery. I can see it. We will arrive soon. Wow! Amazing! It’s so amazing! This is it! Inukai Falls Inukai Falls is 36m high and 22m wide, and with Mount Takachiho in the background, it vibrates the silent air and sends out rainbow-colored spray. The pure white belt that can be seen right in front of you is truly spectacular. This is a historic waterfall where Wake no Kiyomaro once played and where Sakamoto Ryoma, a key figure in the Meiji Restoration, also viewed it. It must be because of the rain. What an amount of water! 36m high and 22m wide. It seems like a place that Sakamoto Ryoma was impressed by. Sakamoto Ryoma and his wife Oryo also visited this waterfall when they were taking a hot spring cure in Kirishima. It seems that Ryoma Sakamoto described the height of this waterfall as 50 ken (about 91m), but the actual height is about 36m. It seems that Ryoma Sakamoto was very impressed. He was so moved that he said this waterfall was “out of this world”. It was really amazing. It’s understandable why Ryoma Sakamoto was so moved. I would like to go to the hot spring. It was really amazing. I think you can get there easily from the road side, so I think it’s better for everyone to go from there. It’s also a good idea to go see it after going to the hot spring. It took less than 10 minutes to walk. I’m back. I was able to return from the waterfall to this hot spring in 7 to 8 minutes. There were no people there even though it was Sunday, so it may be a place where people don’t come in the first place. I would like to soak in this hot spring. Is this a natural spring? It looks like hot water is bubbling up from the bottom. Let’s go in. There is no slippery feet. The water temperature is just right. It’s about 40 or 41 degrees. It’s made to be a screen, so you can’t see the road side. If you stand up, you can see the road, but you can’t see it when you’re in the bath. It’s insanely great. It ‘s 100% natural spring water. Is there any meaning behind this partition? Is it for men and women? It’s a mixed bath because it’s a natural bath. There’s a lot of sediment because it’s a natural bath. I think this is the hot spring’s ingredients. It seems like the hot spring springs from around here. It’s very warm when you soak around here. If you’re not satisfied with the temperature, I recommend sitting in this corner. Kagoshima Airport is right there, so you can hear the planes quite a bit. I went in. It’s a hot spring with great quality. After I got out, my body was a bit sticky, probably because of the strong salt. There’s no changing room or anything, so I think women would be quite hesitant to go. On rainy days like this, the ground is wet, so it would be good to have a plastic bag to put your clothes in. Towels will also discolor, so it’s better to bring a towel that you can throw away. I’m heading towards the inn. I felt sticky, but it became dry by the time I got to the parking lot. Oh, there are shops. Really retro. There’s a fish shop, too. And a souvenir shop. Huh? There’s a lot. We’ve arrived. The parking lot is full. Do people come here? This is a place called “Kumaso no Ana”. Let’s go for now. What kind of place is it? It says “Village of the Gods”. There is a creepy object. It feels like a cave. From what I can see in the photo. There is a dilapidated torii gate here. Even though the parking lot is so full, I haven’t met a single person. What is this place? Oh, I can see it, it’s probably that. We’ve arrived. It’s amazing… a really big rock wall. What on earth is this place… a cave. This seems to be the entrance. The arrow on the sign is pointing in this direction… Kumaso Cave is about 500m from this point, and is a cave where the Kumaso tribe once lived. The first cave is 22m deep, 10m wide, and 100 tatami mats in size. It is connected to the second cave from the front right, but the entrance has collapsed and you can’t get in. It looks like you can’t go all the way to the back. Let’s go right away. There’s a switch here. “When entering Kumaso Cave, please turn on this light switch.” It would be the worst if the lights went out inside the cave… The entrance looks like this… Wow… narrow… the light is on. What is this here? It’s cool. What is this space… Is this art? If so, it’s a pity… Maybe it would have been better if there were no pictures… There are various things written here, but they are difficult to understand. It’s a mysterious space… It seems like there is more beyond this point. It seems that you can’t go any further. I’m going back. It feels like I’ve returned to reality. It was a mysterious place. What is that picture… It ‘s a retro townscape. It looks like they sell carp here. It’s a fish shop. There were a lot of carp in the tank. There is a power plant in front of me. There are also stylish shops. They also serve lunch. This is a hot spring. There are quite a lot of impressive buildings. I was looking for a place to stay around here, but it’s really expensive. It’s a high-class hot spring town. It was about 80,000 to 100,000 yen for two adults, one night with two meals. There is no entertainment district. There are very few shops. What is this… It’s a completely mountain path. I came out to the back of the power plant. I walked along the road by the river for quite a while, but there was nothing there. I don’t know how many guests there are usually, but today is Sunday, so I think there will be a lot of people. We have arrived. This is the inn called “Myoken Tanaka Kaikan”. The rain is getting stronger, so let’s check in. The front desk is on the left as soon as you enter the entrance. This is the lounge. The lobby is right across from it. Opposite the lobby is the foot bath. This is also a foot bath. You can soak your feet in the bath while looking at the view. There is an Invader game here. It’s nostalgic. Even though I say nostalgic, I don’t know this type… This is the front desk, and this is the guest room. Let’s head there. They sell souvenirs here. At the end of this is the women’s bath. The men’s bath is on the right. This inn is said to be 59 years old this year. It seems to have been renovated during the corona, and the interior is very beautiful. This is it. The room is on the right. The other side is only the guest room. This room is the room we will be staying in this time. It seems that there are no particular names for the rooms. This room and this room are special rooms. Let’s take a look. This is the entrance. The entrance is a spacious space like this. To the right as you enter is the relaxing space and the bedroom. Immediately to the left is the river, and you can relax while looking at this view. There are two beds about the size of a semi-double. And here, the TV looks to be over 60 inches. Here is a coffee maker and a kettle. It looks like this. There is coffee, tea, and green tea. It is rare to have a sink between the bedroom and this. This is really good. Under this kettle is… a refrigerator. There is water and tea. You can drink this for free. It is a very spacious space like this. This is really luxurious. As you enter the entrance, directly in front of you… as you can see, there is an open-air bath. I would like to take a look at this as well. This is the washroom. This is the toilet. Opposite the toilet is the entrance to the open-air bath. As soon as you enter, there is a shower room. This is it. This is luxurious. It is a hot spring that is 100% sourced. It seems to be an artesian spring, and this is on the second floor with a river next to it, and it seems to have bubbled up to this point with the power of nature. It’s amazing. This is a truly luxurious hot spring. Today, you can enjoy this hot spring as much as you like at any time. This is the sweet treat. It looks like a fresh sable with Kirishima tea chocolate. This is the first time I’ve seen something like this. It’s very soft. It’s made in Kirishima City, so it might be a famous sweet around here. I’m not sure, but I’ll have one later. This is a map of the building, and the entrance is on the second floor, so this room seems to be on the third floor. On the first floor, there seems to be a private open-air bath, guest rooms, and an esthetic room. The third floor is the balcony. It seems to have a fairly large balcony and guest rooms. I’m going to enter the women’s bath. That’s because there are no customers today, and I was aiming for a Sunday when there are fewer customers, but I was told, “The women’s bath is larger, so please come and join us,” so I’ll take advantage of this opportunity. Now, let’s sneak into the women’s bath! It looks like this. It is separated there. This is the women’s changing room. This is the washroom. It’s completely made of glass. It’s very stylish. Let’s take a look at the bath. Wow! The bathtub looks just like it was back then. It looks like this . It’s a very tasteful bathtub. It looks deep. This one is divided into two, but what’s the difference? I’ll start by going in from here. It might be just right. It’s about 42 degrees. The spring quality here is bicarbonate spring. It’s amazing, the hot spring ingredients are stuck to it. I’m in the women’s bath feeling guilty. I don’t really know the difference, but I think it’s the same source. This one is separated, but I’ll go in here too. This one is really shallow. Is it for children? It’s a very shallow bathtub. My body gets hot even after soaking for a little while. It was great… Since I’m here, I’ll go in the men’s bath too. This is the men’s bath. The men’s bath looks like this. As soon as you enter, there is a washroom on the right, and this is the changing room. The bathtub is right over here. The women’s bath is bigger. This is the men’s bath. There’s a shower over here, and the bathtub is in the middle. Can you go outside? You’re completely visible. If there’s someone there now, they’ll be completely visible. It feels hotter over here. My body is warm. I’d like to cool off in the breeze outside, but it’s almost dinner time so I’ll head there right away. By the way, if you stay in a special room, you get three free dishes. Dinner looks like this. This is mozuku seaweed for an appetizer. It’s mozuku seaweed from Okinawa, and this is apparently a sweet potato gratin-style chervil. It’s all foreign words so it’s difficult to understand, but it’s basically like a gratin. It seems to use sweet potatoes from Kagoshima Prefecture. This is the marinated salmon. This is the bamboo shoot. The sashimi has arrived . Salmon, salmon roe, squid, scallops, tuna, and this is wild red sea bream. The shrimp here is called “Angel Shrimp”. The tuna is really big. About the size of two fingers. I’ll have this later. I thought I had two pieces, but then I saw the decorative knife here. I’ll have the tuna. The staff are really kind. They’re very considerate and will call out to you right away. I’ll have the wild red sea bream. It’s delicious. The scallop is a whole piece. It’s not cut in half. The decorative knife is there, so it’s easy to put soy sauce on it. The scallop is sweet. Have you tried it? I ‘ve kept it carefully. Shall I have some? (laughs) The decorative knife is very elaborate. I’ll have the bigfin reef squid. The texture changes completely just by how you put the knife in. I’ll have the really big tuna. It’s delicious. This is the first complimentary item. This is a complimentary item. It looks like there’s meat in this yellow thing. This is grilled salted shrimp and fried chicken. I don’t know what this is, so I’ll try it. The complimentary items are so luxurious. Shrimp. This shrimp is so chewy. What is this? Is it cheese? It’s scallops. It’s like they put mayonnaise on top of the scallops and grilled it from above with a burner. I’ll have one bite. It’s delicious. Scallops and mayonnaise definitely go well together. I’ll have the gratin. It’s the natural sweetness of the potato. It’s so delicious. It’s so sweet. There ‘s so much cheese on top. Sweet potato and cheese go so well together. It’s so delicious. What are angel shrimp? I’ve never heard of it… oh, it’s delicious. This might be the first time I’ve eaten raw shrimp that hasn’t been opened. Shrimp that isn’t opened is more satisfying to eat. Or rather, there’s a lot of it? It’s chawanmushi. Really big shrimp. And shiitake mushrooms and ginkgo nuts. Sorry, I’ll stir it up… it’s chicken. Here is the third complimentary item. It’s crab. It looks like it was steamed in a hot spring. They cut off the thick part. It’s really big. There’s a shoulder in it. This plan was a free beer for each person, but I can’t drink beer, so I was given cola and ginger ale again. They’re really kind. I never thought I’d be able to eat crab. The meat is also really packed. The main dish, shabu-shabu, is coming now, but I’m already full… is it okay? I wonder if I can eat it… White rice is coming too. Then white rice, shabu-shabu, and dessert are coming. Can I eat it…? Isn’t the amount a lot? It’s really a lot. This is one of the three largest inns in terms of amount. The shabu-shabu has arrived. This is black pork shabu-shabu. As expected of Kirishima. These vegetables are also local. Kirishima black pork shabu-shabu. We’ll eat it with homemade ponzu sauce. Ponzu sauce is delicious. More came. It was rice, vinegared food, and red miso soup, but the rice was packed to the brim. This inn is crazy. There’s still the whole pot left… I can’t eat it… I’m so full… I might give up for the first time… I couldn’t finish it even without the three complimentary dishes. The amount is really large. This might be the best. Thank you for the meal. Um… I’m really sorry about this inn, but for the first time in the history of WataTabi… I couldn’t finish it. I’m really sorry, I left it. There was so much that I couldn’t finish it. If you can eat a lot, I highly recommend it. This is the dessert, but it seems that you can take it back to your room and eat it, so I’ll take it back to my room and review it later. I received a snack called pecan nuts. It ‘s not available in the world, and it seems to be sold only at inns. My stomach feels like it’s going to burst… but this is what it looks like. I can’t imagine what it tastes like. This is definitely addictive. I think it would make a good souvenir. It looks like it has walnuts inside. I wonder if these walnuts are pecan nuts? The texture is really delicious. It’s not too sweet. If you find them, please buy them. I just came back from dinner. I’m so full. I ate for almost two hours. Now I’d like to try the open-air bath in my room. It’s the best. It smells like a hot spring. It’s really great because you can take a bath at your own time without having to go to the large bath every time . After all, this 100% natural spring water is the best. It’s an open-air bath, so it can’t be helped, but the light attracts bugs. This is the dessert for dinner. My stomach has calmed down a bit, so I’ll try it. Is it a daifuku? It’s not like a salty bun, but it feels like a regular daifuku. Good morning. I slept well yesterday. I’m going to take a morning bath now. The river has calmed down and turned into a very clear river. It’s very beautiful. I’m heading towards breakfast. This is what breakfast looks like. The salmon is so big! I wonder how to compare it. It’s about the size of three eggs. They stuffed it with rice. But strangely, I’m hungry even though I was so full yesterday. I had breakfast. It was a hearty breakfast. I’m really glad I stayed at this inn. I personally think the price isn’t that high. It was a special room with an open -air bath, a huge dinner and breakfast, and the inn’s service was really good, so I highly recommend it. Why don’t you try staying there? Then I’m going to check out. The pecan nuts were delicious, so I’ll buy some as a souvenir. On my way out, I was given a hot spring egg. It seems to be a hot spring egg made at this inn. It’s piping hot. Thank you.

  2. Can you tell me what the name of the wooden thing you use at 07:28 is ? I have seen that many times in onsen, but I dont know the name and purpose.

  8. Thank you very much for another great video Watatabi-San ! I like to discover those beautiful special places like the stunning waterfall and that small onsen near the waterfall. The ryokan you stayed in looks great. The view from the rooms, the rotemburo, the onsen and the food – it all looks wonderful. The only problem for me there, is that apparently you have to sit on the floor during dinner and breakfast. There is no way I could sit there for 2 hours.

  10. Te pierwsze gorące źródła bardzo ładną maja atmosferę 😉 Kolejne, to wodospad… wyglądał zjawiskowo SUPER! Ta ukryta tajemnicza jaskinia z malowidłami wyglądała ciekawie.
I na koniec zajazd i gorące źródła. Sam zajazd bardzo ładny, odnowiony. Duża ilość jedzenia 😉 Gorące źródła bardzo duże. Dziękuję Ci za film. Pozdrawiam serdecznie z słonecznej Szkocji.

  15. I’ve revisited your channel many times—your Japanese dialogue with English subtitles is excellent. Thank you for sharing such great content. Your travel destinations are exactly to my taste.

By the way, I’ve already subscribed to your channel!

  16. Don't like AU voices. In Canada when we walk through an area that has bears we make a lot of noise. That scares them away. Did you walk on that bridge? What was on the other side?

  22. Beautiful view at 19:18 & Inukai Falls look stunning! I thought that cave artwork at 28:54 was by the people who used to live there but it's not? Good video 👍

  25. Greetings from Germany. I have been watching your Videos for a while and i just wanted to say that i really enjoy them. The music is also really nice. Keep up the great work.
