伊勢神宮 (内宮) 令和7年6月15日・祭主黒田清子様 – 正宮へ参進 「御卜」の儀・Japanese Emperor’s Sister at Ise Grand Shrine (Naikū)

Today (June 15, 2025), we have come to the Inner Shrine (“Naikū”) of Ise Grand Shrine (Ise Jingū) in Mie prefecture. This is “Ujibashi”, which, in the Shinto religion, represents the connection between the mundane world with the sacred world. “Naikū”, which is dedicated to the Sun goddess, Amaterasu Ōmikami, is the most venerable Shinto sanctuary in Japan. This ritual is known as the “Hōko”. The drum beats signal the commencement of important ceremonies at Ise Grand Shrine. In today’s ceremony, which is known as “Miura (no Gi)”, the “Hōko” is performed twice Miura is a preparatory ritual that takes place on the eve of certain major Shinto festivals. On this occasion, the priests are preparing for their participation in a event known as the “Tsukinami-sai” festival. “Tsukinami-sai” is a series of ceremonies that take place at both the Inner Shrine (Naikū) and the Outer Shrine (Gekū), as well at as various subsidiary shrines and local shrines. Tsukinami-sai is held twice a year—in mid-June and mid-December, The four priests, dressed in white, are entering the shrine in advance of the main procession, which will follow several minutes later. The second “Hōko” signals the imminent arrival of the main procession in this ceremony. The main procession is approaching, on its way to the Main Sanctuary (Shōgu), where a short ceremony will take place. The lady dressed in red and white is Sayako Kuroda, the sister of Emperor Naruhito. She is participating in today’s ceremony in her role as Supreme Priestess at Ise Grand Shrine. She participates in ceremonies at Ise Grand Shrine several times a year, as the representative of the Japanese Emperor. Sayako Kuroda was formerly known as Princess Nori (Nori-no-miya Sayako Naishinnō). In 2005, she married Yoshiki Kuroda, a commoner, and was therefore required to relinquish her Imperial title, and leave the Japanese Imperial Family. It is usual to see large crowds at Ise Grand Shrine , but it is now after 6 pm, and the shrine will be closed to visitors at 7. The shrine closes at 7 in May, June, July and August. In January, February, March, April and September, it closes at 6 pm. In October, November and December, the shrine closes as 5 pm. The short ceremony at the Main Sanctuary (Shōgu) is now over. The members of the procession will perform a ritual at “Aramatsuri-no-Miya Yohai-shō”
