While I was waiting for the castella… I was greeted by a happy voice that I never expected… I participated in Seville Sketch. It’s a memory of my trip that I will never forget. Each dish had its own story, and it was wonderful . Thank you for the memorable time . I never get bored of sightseeing in Nagasaki. It’s a city where you can discover something new every time you visit, but it’s also a place where you can feel at ease somehow. Is it the warmth of the city and its people? This is the “Clinking Ice Cream” that I tried for the first time. It’s a work of art! An ice cream with a perfect balance of crunchy and smoothness. Moving on to today’s main event. That is “Dejima” which played an active role during the isolation period , and “Battleship Island” which supported Japan’s rapid modernization. Before boarding, we learn about Battleship Island (Hashima) and the complex structure of the island. After landing, our interest in the island increases many times over. We move to the tour’s pier. This tour is said to be popular for being less likely to cause seasickness and for the explanations being easy to understand. Apparently , it’s fully booked every day due to the influence of the TV drama. We’ll bear the seasickness with motion sickness medicine and cola! We head to the unreserved seats on the ship in the order of reservation. We arrive off the coast of Hashima in about 40 minutes. We see the Hashima Shrine shrine we saw in the museum, which really looks like a battleship , and Japan’s first reinforced concrete apartment building, “Building 30”. Today, the waves are calm so we can land! High-quality coal was extracted from undersea coal mines. The island structure gives a glimpse of what it was like back then. People came ashore with various thoughts, such as talking about dramas and their families . Amakawa is a stone material made of solidified lime and red soil. This bank is a target for World Heritage registration. We will leave the island in turn with the next tour. I’m glad I was able to see it with my own eyes. At its peak, about 5,000 people lived on the island . It was 17.5 times the population density of Tokyo at the time . Educational institutions, hospitals, and entertainment facilities supported the lives of people working in the coal mines and their families. The ship heads to Nagasaki port. Giant cantilever crane. Former Kosuge ship repair yard. Former Glover House (Glover Garden) . A break from the tension of seasickness. I’m really hungry! Nagasaki’s Chinatown is all about “Kakuni buns”! You can also enjoy the large fatty stewed pork buns at the eat-in counter . Passing through Chinatown, we head to today’s Chinese food. To Edomachi, close to Dejima, where a happy and troubled time begins. Shrimp in chili sauce ¥1,800 Such big shrimp… is it okay? Let’s eat! A famous restaurant selected as a Michelin Bib Gourmand. We are also looking forward to the next dish. Gunraiken Special Fried Rice (Ankake Fried Rice) ¥1,300 An unusual appearance, and the taste is interesting! It is so delicious that you can say it is “delicious” from the bottom of your heart. Nagasaki’s representative gourmet food has arrived. Champon ¥1,200 I would like to recommend it to a foodie friend… Fujian Hall built by overseas Chinese During the isolation period, “Nagasaki” was the only window to China. There is a history that I did not know until I visited it, located above Shinchi Chinatown. How many times should I visit? I’m curious about the coffee beans next to the register . Today’s purpose is not coffee. (Sorry) Petit sandwich set ¥700 I wanted to eat this egg sandwich! On the other hand, this is… Iced coffee and the best cake set for the morning ¥670 and up. There were about six kinds of cakes with a wide variety. They were as thick as thick egg omelets! I thought they might be heavy, but they were super fluffy and light. Now it’s the season for hot coffee. A place visited by patriots and great men of the late Edo period . A little up Maruyama Park… A shop run by a husband and wife who founded in 1887 (Meiji 20) I was able to buy an iron mold that weighed over 3kg by turning it over and over again! 4 pieces for ¥800 Looks a little tough Great location, delicious sweets Take care of yourself Go through Shinobizaka in the entertainment district to the main street A famous restaurant that tourists will want to try Famous restaurant serving original chawanmushi Chawanmushi served in a large bowl Chawanmushi (single item) ¥880 Tasty egg with large ingredients and soup stock soaked in One portion ¥1,540 (Assortment of chawanmushi and steamed sushi) The minced meat of the grilled conger eel is distinctive Thank you for the delicious meal! A room with a history that blends Japanese and Western styles Restoration and maintenance have progressed, and new discoveries have been made Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen Opening in 2023 The westernmost station on the Shinkansen line in Japan What kind of Nagasaki will we encounter next?
