トミックスショールーム秋葉原

Oh! That’s great! So, the background board and stuff, I want it to change a little over time, intentionally! Oh! It’s such a proper railroad crossing. Oh! When it passes through properly, it opens! Amazing! Hello everyone, this is Ayako Suzukawa. Today, I’m at the Tomix Showroom, of the model train maker Tomix, that will open in Akihabara, Tokyo on June 5, 2025! I’ve come to Akihabara, Tokyo! It’s before the opening, but this time, I’m allowed to interview. Originally in Kanda, the showroom in Kanda, Tokyo, has relocated to Akihabara, and will be opening. Also, the atmosphere of this showroom has changed, so I’d like to see various things! I immediately went inside, and Wow, it’s amazing! Big! This layout photo Wow, amazing! I’d like to take a closer look one by one, but first of all, here it is: There’s a floor guide. I’m currently on the first floor. It’s a street-level store, and from outside, what is it? you can really see inside from the intersection, you can see it a little, huh? what is it? like, I see, so you can easily enter with that feeling of excitement from outside. Smoothly, I like that you can just casually walk in. That’s really good. So, this is the first floor, and this first floor area is the Tomix Legacy Studio, a model train with the theme of introducing Tomix. Various things are on display. And one more thing, it’s a welcome board. Tomix models, if you’ve ever seen them, or played with them, you’ll be familiar with the design of the sleeve case that the model comes in! Ta-da! A face cutout photo panel? With this face cutout panel, you can take commemorative photos! This is great. You can take pictures with your face in it. And what’s really nice is that even for children, there’s a stepping stool so they can easily take pictures, so it’s all set up. You don’t have to hold them; they can just stand on the stool here and take a picture. Tomix, is looking back on its history, and it turns out that next year, 2026, marks their 50th anniversary! So this right here is from 1976. This is really the very first Model ED75. The actual, very first train car is on display here. This is from the early days, when Tomix was just starting out. It shows what it was like when they first started. Like this, with the first-generation logo and the initial model power unit. The first issue of their general catalog. That’s amazing. But it was already quite something from the start. Isn’t it incredible? It’s like, right from the beginning, it was already quite complete, you can really feel their passion. And the train car lineup, too. They’ve released so many different things. And this one down here, is this issue number 2? This is the second issue of their general catalog, and this photo is a little… It’s kind of… that, that, that… It has that certain feel to it. But… Here, this main, biggest tapestry… The way it looks when it’s displayed… That’s exactly the feeling it gives off. That’s amazing. I think a lot of people have probably seen it before. Don’t you think? This photo. They were doing this right from the very beginning. They’ve been doing it. And this catchphrase here: “The world of model trains for everyone.” This really shows that 50 years ago, Tomix when they started with model trains, as a brand, their passion, their theme, was to deliver this from here, the feeling of spreading it all out, really comes across. After all, N gauge is already so widespread, but they’re intentionally going back to basics, to ask, what even *is* N gauge? What are model trains all about? They’re making it easy to understand even for complete beginners. Basically, if you have something like this… This is what you need to make it run. So, When you actually try to get started, and you’re trying to figure it out from scratch, it’s easy to understand when it’s summarized like this. I see, so that’s how it runs. It gets its electricity from the rails. You don’t actually put batteries in it to make it run. Those really early The very first step is easier to take with this explanation. The basic unit is palm-sized. First of all, this is important. After all, the rail width is 9mm. The N in N gauge comes from the initial of 9. That’s why it’s called N gauge. And then, here. Actually, one is visible from the outside, facing outwards so you can see it. This is a layout plan. It shows you how you can make a layout like this, a suggestion from Tomix. They’ve released a book called Layout Plan Collection, and this layout is based on one of the plans featured in the book. See, it says plan 13 here. This one is displayed inside the showroom. It shows you all sorts of things you can do. Take a look here first, and you can also enjoy it from the outside. And again, the height is really Well, depending on the age of the child, it’s about this height, so they can enjoy it from their perspective. It’s a layout at just the right height. It gives you a special feeling of longing. You’ll want to stick to it and watch. This feeling… It’s something that adults can remember too. Yeah, that’s great. And here’s another layout plan. There are two on display now. This is changed on a fairly regular basis, so they change it to something different. So every time you visit, it might be different. You can see various layout plans here. This area covers Tomix’s 50-year history. And it explains what model trains and N gauge are. You can learn all about it here at the Tomix Legacy Studio. Now we’re going up the stairs to the second floor. This space is next to the stairs. This is the Tomix DEN Room you’ve been longing for. This is the Tomix DEN Room corner. A “DEN” is… It’s something you see in apartment layouts these days. That small, kind of hidden space. A little hideaway space, you know? That’s what it means, apparently. Right now, this is also a little bit like a home… A little area. For example, with a bookshelf… Or even with a small table like this… Actually, you can enjoy N gauge model trains… …even in a small space. It’s a suggestion, or rather… After all, when you first see N gauge… And then you see a slightly larger layout… …you might think you need a lot of space. You might get that impression, but… The way to really enjoy it… …is that you can start with this much space. You really can! Actually, it feels a bit like a real living space… …in a home-like, room-like atmosphere. Because it’s exhibited… This module… Even this is quite different from just having a single train car. It’s another level up, you know? It feels like going to the next level. Yeah, I think this is good too. It’s easy to understand, and… You can see it and learn all about it. Above the entrance, there’s also… A very lovely photo. “The sparkle of the water’s surface is the sparkle of the layout.” That catchphrase really hits you, doesn’t it? It’s like it’s filled with passionate feelings. Isn’t it amazing? The surface of the water, definitely. Oh, wow. Okay, and this is… The “Factory Direct Latest Product Samples” corner. It’s exactly as the name says. Made at the Tomix factory… …and sent here immediately. The very latest… The newest of the new… …the latest models and samples… …are on display here. These are on display, but… …more and more will be added after this. As manufacturing progresses… …the contents of this showcase will also be… …updated. So, at that very moment… …depending on when you come here… …you’ll get the very latest information. You can see various samples and so on. You can learn all about them. The Ban-etsu Story and the C57… Apparently, this is the first time they’ve made two types of steam locomotives into products in one year. That’s the first time, apparently. According to Tomix. As you’d expect, this locomotive… …the steam locomotive has a lot of really fine parts. It’s made with very fine details. Coming up on December 14th of this year, December 14, 2025, will be the 50th anniversary of the last passenger service of the steam locomotive. It’s that 50th anniversary. So, That’s why the C57 will be released this year. Basically, as a product, Items that are ready for sale are also on display. They will be exhibited, so when you make a reservation, and it actually arrives and you open the case, you can avoid that feeling of “Oh, something here is a little different from what I expected.” It minimizes that kind of thing. First, you can see how it turned out. It’s also a place where you can confirm the details. This is the popular Tetsukore Pocket. It’s a new series in the Railway Collection. This Railway Collection is an official collaboration project with Mascot Train. It’s on display here now. This isn’t colored right now, but it will be fully colored. You can assemble it yourself, and it’s this size. Because it’s N gauge size, you can run it on a track. The overall length of the train car body is about 65mm. It’s written here. Based on the realistic modeling of model trains and Tomix, it’s commercialized as a shorty model, about half the size. It’s an N gauge size, pre-colored kit. By incorporating a separately sold motor, you can make it run. Tetsukore is also here. They are lined up tightly now, because the showroom was closed for a month for this reopening, the showroom was closed. They are lined up like this now. These are really the newest items. They’re about to be released. For example, around here, are items that will be released this summer, and items that will be released from summer to autumn. They are all gathered together, so you can see them on the rails and see what they look like. Now you can see the products. And on the bottom shelf is Buscolle. There’s also the Trailer Collection. These are also factory direct, so you can see the newest products. You can check out all sorts of things. And over here is Tomix’s new product corner. There are also factory-direct samples, but this is the new product section, and they’re displayed in a large showcase like this. That’s great. There are Shinkansen trains up top, but… But you know what? This… If you look down lower, From a child’s perspective, they might not be able to see the cool Shinkansen up high. To prevent that from happening, surprisingly, there’s also this down here! That’s great. Like the Doctor Yellow, or the 700S. And at the very bottom, we have the H5 series. Like this, actually, even at the very bottom, it’s designed so that kids can enjoy it even from a low viewing angle. So, cool! They’ve also got some popular train cars on display. These are also new products, as well. You can get a feel for what they’re like while actually checking out the train formations. Like, “they even make this part!” You can get a good, close look at those details. Next to the new product corner, this is a bit… with a different feel than before. It’s a corner showcasing rail systems, railroad crossings, and other suggestions. Of course, there are the trains themselves, but these kinds of parts too… Tomix really puts so much detail into even the smallest parts. Seeing these things makes you think, “Hey, this is great!” When you see them on display, at a glance, you can immediately think, “I could use this!” or “Let’s try an elevated layout!” Those kinds of things… can really expand your own ideas when you’re putting together a layout. It seems like it really broadens the possibilities. They’re offering various scenery ideas here. That’s what they’re doing here. The way they emerge in silhouette… the fine details… it’s like, “Wow, this is the real deal!” That feeling is really great, isn’t it? And next to that, we have HO gauge. It’s larger than N gauge. These are the new HO gauge products. They’re really nice. Like the Sunrise or the Cassiopeia. I like that! You know, like this, after looking at N gauge for so long, when you just glance at it, you really think, “Wow, it’s big!” And, because of the size and scale, you can really feel the impact. And below that, around the center here, in the city, like you’ve seen before, shops and buildings, If we had things like this, I could recreate even more, you know? Those kinds of clever things, like this post box set, Isn’t this amazing? I want to put it out. Like in front of a shop. Like that one in front of Shizuoka City Hall, that post box, that plastic model-like with the surrounding parts intentionally attached, This actually exists. In front of Shizuoka City Hall. This, this, this. Post box plastic model monument. Oh, this is a product? Oh, so this is the city hall. Wow. The Trailer Collection, The Car Collection, the Bus Collection, and Tetsukore. Oh, these are also new products. So, they are moving more and more from the factory direct area over there, from the factory direct area over there, to this side. They are being moved over here. That’s the idea. This side has more items with release dates closer to the present. Already completed as products, just as they are. New products that are about to be released are already lined up in the showcase. We are in front of the showcase here. This is the Players Zone. It’s a proposal for how to play, well, the layout is, assembled and the train cars are, running, well, this is roughly, about the size of one tatami mat, and if you take a look at this, it has a flooring, look to it. So, for model railroads, if you have about one tatami mat’s worth of space, and you want to play at home, maybe something like this, how about it? You can do it like this, and so, you can actually come here and see it, and what’s more, it’s right here, you can actually touch it. You can actually move it like this, Surprisingly, even children can handle it. Things like that can be experienced here, while looking and touching, the first step into N gauge, this layout, you can experience the very first steps. Of course, placing buildings is great, but is good too, but first, you really just connect the rails, place a train car on them and run it. That kind of fun… I really want people to experience that first. That’s what we’ve put into this. This island platform set, with urban lighting, regarding this product here… When you think of a night train at a station, you really want to see it lit up, but electrical wiring can be a bit difficult. Tomix’s illuminated platform uses simple wiring to recreate a compatible station platform. You can recreate that. And what’s more, this very island platform set, with urban lighting, was created… with various thoughts from the creator. You can read about the feelings and thoughts that went into making this product, and what kind of things were made. There’s actually a little explanation of that in the description here, and This is, of course, great for beginners, but even for those who have been using Tomix products for a long time, you might be surprised to learn some new things. Like… You can also learn a little about the history here, and it really strengthens your appreciation for it. It’s really great. Of course, even existing fans will enjoy seeing this. Again, the height here is perfect for children to see, so they can get a good view of it. When it’s placed on the floor, some people really get their faces close to the floor to look at it, but from this height, you can really see how cool it is. That’s the perfect height. After all, just placing it on a “rail base” like this, and lining up a few train cars really changes the atmosphere. You can really get a feel for what it’s like to work on a model railroad. It’s a lot of fun. Let’s try developing it from here. Let’s try making this layout, So, as another suggestion, here we have some model railroad dioramas assembled in various sizes on display. Looking at these, the size of the base is the same. The height and size of the base are the same. The original base size is the same. The height and size of the base are the same. Over there, we were just running it around, just playing with it. But with this size, you can add height and do all sorts of recreations. Like recreating that place, that favorite famous landmark. Things like that. Oh, you can actually do it with this size, and make it this impressive. You can see that. Looking at the one next door, take a look at this. It’s running, the Bus Collection. You can even do this. Of course, you can place it, or try moving it yourself. Whatever you like, but if you combine it with a running system, the bus will run like this. Like this, the bus runs! Wow! Wow, again, they all have different sizes. This is Tetsukore Pocket. This is Tetsukore Pocket. The new product I mentioned earlier, the new Tetsukore series that will be released in the future, Tetsukore Pocket’s 900 x 600mm layout. Amazing. Of course, it’s a reference for N gauge and such, but it’s also fun to just look at. This place is really just a miniature, and it’s fun to just come and look at. It’s so fun to look at. It’s so fun to look at. So, for those who are new to this, or parents, grandparents who came with their kids, or parents, grandparents who came with their kids, you can see how amazing it is. It’s a space where you can enjoy and understand it. It’s a space where you can enjoy and understand it. It’s a space where you can enjoy and understand it. This is also a reference layout from Tetsukore Pocket, but the size is B4. The size is B4. It’s the size of paper, like paper or clear files. B4 size. It’s a B4 layout, and you can run it on a B4 size, so you can run it, and of course, you can add as much height as you want. Isn’t this amazing? It’s B4 size. Just a little… It’s about the size of a piece of paper. You can make this whole layout in that small a space? Wow, that’s amazing! First of all, the curves… To have them on a layout this size… It’s amazing that you can make a complete loop. So, if you want to do this yourself… You might wonder, “What should I buy?” Well, you can find out here. You can get all the information you need right away. What do I need first? I want to do exactly this layout. If you consult with the staff… They can tell you what rails and curves you need for this size layout. And curves. They can advise you on all of that. This is great. The “Tetsu-Omo!” magazine… Has also done this before, but… Using things like these display cases from 100-yen shops… You can… Even with a collection case like this… Like this, You can cut out a section… And create a little scene. You can make all sorts of dioramas. That’s… What they’re showing here. These are great for summer vacation craft projects. It’s a fun little project for kids. For arts and crafts. Parents and children can have fun doing it together. It’s a lot of fun. By the way, this area… Has just been renovated. And to start things off… They have some pretty complete dioramas on display. Each one is set up to show what’s possible. But in the future, they plan to… Instead of just showing finished dioramas like that tatami room… … They’re going to show more of the construction process. You’ll actually be able to see the process here. Basically… The Tomix employees… The creators will be here, and maybe even welcome customers… … So you can see the dioramas while they’re being built. … That’s what this space will be like. And over here is a showcase… This is… Items from the Tomix official online shop, Tech Station. … They’re original products… That you can only buy online. … That’s right. So you can actually see these items… Here in person. … Since they’re only available online… You can’t buy them in the store. … So before you order and wait for it to arrive… You can see the actual product… And get a feel for it here. You can only see these in photos, But here, You can see the real thing, In three dimensions. You can take a good, hard look! This also lets you visualize What it will look like beforehand, Which is great. Surprisingly, These are only available online! You can find out about things like that here too. Because you can! This is a partner of Tomix, The German company Faller. A model train manufacturer. Their products are displayed like this. They’re really something. I love the streetcars. It’s great to see these in person, Wow, the atmosphere is totally different. Foreign models Really have a different feel. And next to that, Is Mibu Town, Tochigi Prefecture, Also known as Toy Town. Where the Tomix factory is. They offer a program in Mibu Town, Tochigi Prefecture, Where you can donate to the town and receive a gift in return. And here it is. That’s what they’re offering. You can actually see the gifts And confirm, “This is what I’ll get!” You can confirm that here. So that’s great. And over here, we have a play table and a Still photo studio! The Tomix Train Photography Studio, As the sign says. And this, Is a diorama made by the Tomix employees. It’s really cool. They even have lighting, All set up for you. So as the name suggests, you can take train photos! Right here. You can do it! Click, click, click! Take videos or photos, And show the world the appeal of Model trains! Take photos here, And have fun! That’s what this corner is all about. So even if you don’t build your own layout, You can still get great shots With this! So that’s great. They’ve also recreated Famous train photography spots. So that’s really cool. Oh! That’s nice. So the background The boards and things, They change them out So they change over time. It’s really cool. Various It seems like it will continue to evolve. It seems like it will change. This photography module features a pop-out Seikan Tunnel. Oh. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, Tomix is releasing various products. These were made with the release in mind. It was produced. The creator of this diorama has provided various comments, which are included in the captions. That’s great. And next to that is the “First Tomix Corner, which explains the basics of model trains, even for beginners. From the explanation of railways in the first place, From the explanation of wanting to set it up. There was, It features this Basic Set SD. If you’re wondering what to buy first, At that point, even if you get the basic set, you might ask, “What’s included? How do I set it up?” Here, you can actually see how to connect the rails, wire everything, while looking at the contents of the box. Wire it and connect the outlet, Place the train car. I’ll drive it. You can control it with this power unit. You can drive it. It’s very easy to understand. It’s summarized well. This is the place. And here is a very large Tomix diorama. Wow. This diorama from the Kanda era, which was also exhibited at the showroom, is placed here as it is, but, during the renewal period, although the position hasn’t changed much, it has been rearranged. Like Diocolle. Some things have changed. But still, this much, model professionals made this much of a diorama. Just looking at this is really so much fun. Depending on the angle, there are various railcar depots, and large stations, viaducts, etc. There are many things in here. At each of those points, you can take a look, and of course, the running railcars. The railcars are also from Tomix, with a wide variety of models. They are lined up here. Oh! It’s the Shikishima train. Oh. Seeing all at once various railcars moving and the town coming to life is fun, isn’t it? And these lights are amazing, aren’t they? They’re so detailed, the lights, because they’re illuminated, it feels even more realistic. Amazing! In the future, Right now, the roads don’t have any cars yet, but Buscolle and other vehicles are scheduled to be running here, so this area will have even more activity. It will be a road. I want to take a good look at everything. Really, all around. Wow, amazing! There’s also sound. Not just sound and light. Sound and movement. I like the railroad crossing. Looking from below, Oh. It’s a railroad crossing. It’s moving, it’s moving! Isn’t the crossing gate amazing? Isn’t it? The size of it. It’s such a proper railroad crossing. Oh. Amazing. It opens after the train passes, because it opens. Amazing. This place is really it’s really without any glass, you can see it really up close, as if you’ve entered the scene yourself, from that perspective. You can see it, and the sound and light can be felt directly. Wow, that’s great. I like the silver one. That’s right. The top has quite a bit of purple. Or rather, the color. On the overpass, You can see it when you cross. At the station along the way. I like it. Ah, rice fields. It’s the season when they’re still flooded. Oh. The way they’ve used these underpasses. Is great. That’s good. Wow. Hmm. Once again, it’s really about this The extensive lineup, or rather, Even just with the Diocolle series, It’s truly amazing. I saw a Seicomart earlier. This one’s a Family Mart. Over there, over there, Hokkaido’s Convenience store chain, Seicomart. Right? And this engine shed again. Huh? There’s Thomas! There’s Thomas too! I like it. Of course, there’s the reproduction, But you can also create your own, Railroad. Because you can make it yourself, Model trains really give you maximum freedom. Right. It’s the realization of that dream. Exactly. Oh, amazing. Right now, They’ve actually turned off the lights above us. Thank you for turning off the lights. And now, Even more, The lights highlight even more of these fine details. The lights come on, And the trains too. This night scenery is something else, isn’t it? Right? Wow, that’s amazing. Amazing, amazing. Maybe in the future, they’ll do things like this, Where they turn off the lights. So there might be times like that. No, no, this again. It’s different from how it looked with the lights on. This different. It’s like it’s emerging from the darkness, Like it’s floating out. It has a certain coolness. You can also appreciate the beauty of the silhouettes. So you can enjoy it in a different way. Wow! Look, look, look! This train… When you see this, you definitely want to try it, right? Makes you want to buy it, doesn’t it? It’s cool. That’s amazing. So, Today, Here in Akihabara, Tokyo, We’re at the Tomix Showroom. In Tokyo, Akihabara, We’ve come to visit. We were here! The previous Of course, the Kanda showroom also had Exhibits and things, But this is even more, a little more Easily, from now on, Of course, even for those who are new to this, And even for those who have been doing this for a long time, First of all, just coming here is It’s a really enjoyable place. It’s become a wonderful showroom. So, really, everyone, feel free to take a quick look from the street. Come on in and see Tomix’s model railroad. Why not come and experience the N gauge models? What do you think? Okay, that’s all for the relocated and reopened Tomix Showroom. I came to Akihabara, Tokyo. Thank you very much. Everyone, come and visit! It’s fun just to look around.
