屏風絵になりそうな山々が奥に広がるこの地は、
温泉にスキー場やキャンプ場があるレジャースポットでもあります。
南会津町からさらに内陸の桧枝岐村、尾瀬。
10月中頃から道全体が褐色に染まる様な紅葉を見せてくれます。
小沢平から只見川沿いに登るコースの途中に、温泉の川があります。
渋沢と呼ばれるこの川は、昔は温泉小屋もあったそうです。
地元では「しぼっさわ」とも呼ばれたりするそうです。
ちなみにココから尾瀬ヶ原方面へ抜ける登山道は廃道になっているため、
ここまで来る道中もかなり荒廃が進んでおり少々危険です。
この渋沢を登って行くと、渋沢大滝があります。
途中でちゃんと整地された跡があり、
おそらく温泉小屋があったところだと思われます。
この辺は特に温泉っ気の強い感じです。
途中の小さな滝で両岸がふさがり、巻きが必要です。
どっぷり水に浸かっても良いなら直接越えれそうです。
巻き道は昔の登山道の名残がわずかに残りますが、
まばらなうえほぼ崩壊状態なのであてにはできません。
踏んだらすぐ滑り落ちそうな箇所や、支流の流れで足が埋まり込む箇所も多く、
かなり危険を伴います。
また、登るのはいいですが川へ降りれそうな所も確認しながら進みます。
やがて細い白糸を垂らしたような滝が正面に見えると、
川は右に曲がり大滝が見えてきます。
切り立った岩に囲まれた空間に、
上の方に見える紅葉が素晴らしくキレイです。
特に左岸側の岩の張り出し方は迫力があります。
落石注意ですけどね。
滝は大きく見事で、紅葉抜きで素晴らしい名瀑です。
