Hot Springs Japan Series No.4 “Shuzenji Onsen”
Shuzenji Onsen has flourished as the oldest hot spring resort in Izu.
修善寺 Shuzenji Temple
This ancient temple is said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai
in the second year of the Daido era (807).
独鈷の湯 Tokko-no-yu Spa
Tokko-no-yu is the original hot spring of Shuzenji Onsen,which springs
from the Katsura River that runs through the center of Shuzenji Onsen.
仰空楼 Gyokuro
Adjacent to Hakoyu is Gōku-ro, an observation deck overlooking
the hot springs of Shuzenji.
竹林の小径 Bamboo Forest Path
A promenade that runs along the Katsura River that flows
through the center of the hot spring town.
日枝神社 Hie Shrine
Hie Shrine is a quiet shrine located to the east of Shuzenji Temple.
指月殿 Shizukiden
Located at the foot of Mt. Shikayama opposite Shuzenji Temple,
Shigetsuden was built by Hojo Masako as a place of worship
for her son Yoriie.
源頼家の墓 Grave of Minamoto no Yoriie
The grave of Minamoto no Yoriie is located within the grounds of Shigetsuden.
恋の橋めぐり Bridge of Love Tour
Each of the five bridges over the Katsura River that runs through
Shuzenji Onsen is said to bring good fortune in love.
