霧多布岬周辺の海に生息する野生のラッコは、現在、全国的にも珍しい繁殖地として注目されています。特に、岬の遊歩道や展望台からラッコを観察することができます。
霧多布岬では、2016年以降、数頭のラッコが定着し、2018年には赤ちゃんが誕生したことで、日本初の繁殖地として話題になりました。現在、5～7頭程度のラッコが岬を中心に活動しています。
ラッコは、岬の遊歩道から海岸線沿いや岬の周辺で、波間に漂う姿を観察することができます。特に、晴天時や波が穏やかな時は、双眼鏡でラッコをより近くで観察することができます

Wild otters that live in the sea around Cape Kiritabu are currently attracting attention as a rare breeding ground nationwide. In particular, you can observe otters from the promenade and observatory of the cape.

Several otters have settled in Cape Kiritabu since 2016, and a baby was born in 2018, which became a hot topic as the first breeding ground in Japan. Currently, about 5 to 7 otters are active mainly on the cape.

Sea tters can be observed drifting between the waves along the coastline and around the cape from the cape promenade. Especially when it’s sunny or when the waves are calm, you can observe otters closer with binoculars.
