Hello, this is Koya. I’m currently in Nagano Today, I’m going to Hakuba Village for the first time in my life Hakuba Village is one of Japan’s premier mountain resorts, embraced by magnificent nature Let’s embark on a journey to enjoy hot springs and gourmet food while exploring the tranquil rural mountains with breathtaking views of nature I have arrived at Nagano Station I plan to head to Hakuba by car this time It seems you can also take a bus from platform 26 at the east exit of Nagano Station, which takes about an hour I think there are many skiers during the winter season, so there are a lot of cars, but there are also buses, so it’s reassuring I’m heading towards Hakuba The mountains are beautifully visible right in front of me Shinshu Shinmachi is a place famous for Genghis Khan, and I have been there before I also recommend eating Genghis Khan in Shinshu Shinmachi before heading to Hakuba This time, I plan to eat Genghis Khan on the way back We have now entered Hakuba Village This village is surrounded by majestic mountains in a 360-degree view It’s an exciting sight to see a basin surrounded by such large mountains; you don’t come across this very often As expected of the Japanese Alps Upon arriving in Hakuba, the first thing we do is have lunch I came to a popular soba restaurant in Hakuba I ordered the ‘Sobajin Set Meal.’ It includes rice with mountain vegetables, a miso soup full of vegetables, and the main soba noodles Looks delicious Let’s eat The flavor of soba is refreshing and delicious Rather than being smooth going down, it has a bit of a bite and also retains the flavor of soba Because the water is delicious from the mountains, you can’t go wrong with soba from Nagano And I will also have rice It contains wild vegetables like mushrooms and carrots, and the sweetness of the sweet potatoes is nice The dashi has a subtle flavor and is delicious with a gentle taste The pickled wild vegetables are incredibly delicious The quality is high The cuisine of Nagano, which makes abundant use of mountain delicacies, is delicious I just finished lunch and I’m about to go sightseeing I can see Hakuba Station right in front of me There are few trains, but it seems you can also come to Hakuba from Shinjuku by the Azusa limited express During this winter season, there are several round-trip buses running from Nagano Station The bus offers more flexibility with time I am heading to ‘Hakuba Mountain Harbor’ It’s a place where you can take a lift and enjoy a great view I can see a gondola in front of me It seems there are about 10 ski resorts around here If you buy a day pass, you can use all 10 ski resorts as much as you want This is a paradise for ski and snowboard enthusiasts We have arrived at Iwatake Ski Resort I will ride the gondola in front of me and enjoy the breathtaking view from above All the ski guests seem to be having fun sliding down the slopes By March, the busy season has passed, and it seems that many foreigners flock here in January and February This time of year is less crowded, so it seems like we can enjoy skiing while avoiding the crowds The ticket for sightseeing is 2,900 yen for one adult I think a day pass for skiing costs around 6,000 to 7,000 yen This lift has just been renovated, and the interior is sparkling clean, providing an excellent ride experience We started from the bottom left area Many people are enjoying skiing and snowboarding Since it’s not a busy season, everyone seems to be enjoying skiing and snowboarding with ease This is my first time here, and the scenery of the Hakuba mountains is breathtaking It seems that there are shuttle buses operating between the 10 ski resorts Some people stay for about a week and enjoy skiing and snowboarding in different places almost every day It seems that many such people are flocking here to Hakuba There aren’t many places in Japan where you can freely move between several ski resorts This area is indeed said to be the birthplace of skiing in Japan As the elevation increases, it has turned into a sea of white Many people in this area are enjoying skiing and snowboarding This area is high up, so there are many advanced skiers and everyone is speedy There is an old lift remaining on the left It’s obvious that this is the new lift There are some small dining places around here when you get off the lift It says ‘view’ on this side, so I think this area is a place you can walk to for sightseeing The view right in front of you is amazing as you walk straight ahead There’s a swing over there This is a trapeze You can ride the swing while enjoying this breathtaking view You can enjoy a view of Hakuba Dake right in front of you You can enjoy the swing like this This is a swing called ‘Yahhoo! Swing’ that lets you jump out into the great nature of Hakuba This moment, cutting through the wind at an altitude of 1200 meters, truly feels like flying in the sky The magnificent scenery that unfolds before me makes me want to shout ‘Yahoo!’, which is why it’s named ‘Yahoo! Swing’ It seems like it would create wonderful memories for families and couples The swing was thrilling and fun It seems that you can enjoy a beautiful view from the facility called Mountain Harbor over there This is labeled as the top-level course Foreigners skated past me with great enthusiasm I think sliding while gazing at this magnificent and grand Northern Alps is the best This is Mountain Harbor You can enjoy light snacks while taking in the view here There are places where you can take photos and enjoy the view like this You can gaze at the breathtaking scenery of the Northern Alps of the Hida Mountains right in front of you What you can see from around here are the three famous peaks that represent the Hakuba area, known as the ‘Hakuba Three Mountains.’ You can probably see the three famous mountains, ‘Hakuba Dake’, ‘Shakushi Dake’, and ‘Hakuba Yari Dake’, which are at an elevation of 2932 meters right in front of you In addition, there are also mountains that exceed 2500 meters in height In winter, you can enjoy a silver snow landscape, and in other seasons, you can admire the scenery that changes with each season from here Especially in summer, it seems to be bustling with tourists enjoying mountain biking and hiking, as it also serves as a summer resort In winter, there are many inbound tourists, but during the summer, it seems that a significant number of Japanese people also flock there Next time, I want to enjoy skiing and snowboarding as well On the way to the next spot after coming down from the ski resort, there is a bridge called Hakuba Ohashi If you look to your right, you’ll see this wonderful panoramic view This is one of the representative scenes of Hakuba, often featured in guidebooks and magazines The large river in front of me is called Matsukawa The scenery covered in snow is also fantastical and beautiful The river itself flows beautifully like this And further in the back, you can see the Northern Alps of the Hida Mountains centered around Mount Hakuba, which we were looking at from above earlier It looks beautiful from here as well For someone like me from the west who usually can’t see snowy landscapes, just seeing this raises my spirits There are many foreigners who visit a country where it doesn’t snow This is the intersection in front of the bus center This Lawson seems to rank in the top 5 in sales in Japan, but only during winter It seems that this place gets lively around that time in winter Let’s have a coffee break Is the building in front of us one made by Snow Peak? This Starbucks here is said to have been designed by the famous Kengo Kuma You can see a wooden board on the right side In winter, many tourists come, but it seems relatively calm during other times of the year There aren’t that many cafes, so this is a rare Starbucks Today, Snow Peak was closed for the day If there’s something you want to buy in winter sports gear, you can buy it here It features an artistic design that makes abundant use of wood, characteristic of Kengo Kuma I can see many people relaxing at the terrace seats Since this area is like a square, there are also people walking their dogs You can relax slowly while gazing at the Northern Alps in front of you I can see the mountain from earlier, and the view is amazing In the distance, I can also see the ski jump from the Nagano Olympics This is my first time in Hakuba, and I’m surprised by its scale, which is beyond my imagination Watching everyone having fun skiing made me think that I want to spend winter here skiing and enjoying myself After playing hard on the slopes, I want to relax in a hot spring and have grilled meat for dinner Next time I come, I plan to enjoy Hakuba on that course I will have a chai tea latte I’ve been really into the chai tea latte at Starbucks lately because it’s so delicious This is also something I’ve been into lately: ‘an butter matcha bread’ This is really delicious By the way, this is the ski resort; can you see it? There are two lined up in the middle Is the ski resort open as a tourist spot as well? I have heard that you can go up there In winter, with the snow piled up, it seems like you could feel like a ski jumper We are heading to the ‘Hakuba Ryujin Onsen’ where we will stay today There is a roadside station just before the inn We have arrived near the inn where we will stay today The inn is within walking distance from here, but we decided to stop by the roadside station before heading to the inn There were quite a few roadside stations when coming by car from Nagano Station When you think of Nagano, you think of oyaki, right? It seems like a good companion for hot springs There are also onsen manju On the left, there are nozawana as well And since there are soba and sake, it seems you can gather Nagano souvenirs here It seems that the accommodation we will be staying at this time offers not only meals but also a variety of inclusive services I am looking forward to those services, so I won’t be buying any food here If you stay at a place that doesn’t offer such services, I think it’s a good idea to buy local specialties here, including souvenirs There are really a lot of roadside stations, so touring them seems interesting And there is accommodation behind the roadside station This is ‘Hakuba Ryujin Onsen’ There are no hot spring towns in Hakuba, but there are scattered hot springs like this There are places that operate as day-use baths and ryokans scattered around Oh, the chime is ringing It’s exactly 3 o’clock, so it’s time to check in There is a barbecue restaurant attached here, so you can enjoy delicious grilled meat at night In front of you is the front building, and there is also a new building further back And right in front of me is what is known as a detached room It’s a guest room with excellent privacy The roadside station we just visited is directly behind us, so if you want to buy something, you can go there right away Well, let’s go inside Hakuba, where we will be staying this time “Hakuba Ryujin Onsen Ryokan SUI” opened in 2017 It was renewed and reopened last year in 2024 Newly built Japanese modern guest rooms and enhanced public areas, as well as renovations of the hot spring facilities, have just been completed You can heal your mind and body in a hot spring with a natural flow of spring water, surrounded by the great nature of the Alps Additionally, the inclusive services are well-developed, and you can enjoy local specialties like oyaki, sake, and late-night snacks I’ve heard that the warm hospitality typical of the countryside is highly regarded, so I’m looking forward to it By the way, it seems that the tourist season in Hakuba is during the summer and winter The business operates seasonally from July to September for summer and from December to March for winter The front features designs and decorations reminiscent of beautiful textiles, allowing you to feel the traditional beauty of Japan There is a sunken hearth area in the front lobby During check-in hours, there is a service offering Nagano’s famous oyaki in the hearth area here There is also a service for wine and free drinks Depending on the time, there may also be a service for sake and yakan soba Since we use authentic charcoal, you can enjoy hot oyaki as a welcome service Also, there is a free drink and food corner here In the back right, there is a large public bath There is a service for post-bath ice cream here And there is delicious water from Hakuba Village They have prepared bottles in the room, and you can drink as much as you like It’s a charming retro-style faucet that is quite cute It has a playful spirit And what is this? Karin syrup: Karin is a specialty of Nagano, and due to its hardness and strong astringency, it cannot be eaten raw It is characterized by a sweet and sour taste and a rich aroma, and is commonly processed into throat lozenges and syrups, making it a beloved local drink that is part of inclusive services This is a typical apple juice and grape juice I love drinking Yakult after taking a bath There is wine around here Since it’s Shinshu, wine production is also active Wine produced in Nagano Prefecture is used This is sparkling wine Moreover, they have prepared non-alcoholic sparkling wine as well What we have here are red wine and white wine It seems to be IZUTSU wine from Shinshu You can enjoy local drinks around here as well And there are coffee, tea, and herbal tea available in this area And there are also snacks like kaki-pi and chocolate And in the evening, you can enjoy ‘Yakanak Soba’ It’s available in limited quantities, so let’s come and eat it soon I will come back to take a look at this large public bath later Since there are many skiers, a laundry facility is also provided There is a washing machine with a dryer available Additionally, there is a stone sauna in front of this area You can reserve the spacious stone sauna area for private use You can make a reservation and relax here with your whole family I will receive the welcome service This is a local specialty from Nagano: mushroom, apple, and vegetable dumplings First, I will have the vegetables This is an apple I had apple dumplings for the first time, and they are delicious They are packed with apples inside and have just the right amount of sweetness Unlike regular sweets, this one isn’t too sweet and has a strong acidity It feels like an adult dessert with a moderate sweetness, and the chewy texture is really delicious This is a vegetable It’s really delicious I mentioned earlier that the nozawana is delicious, but the vegetables in Nagano are truly tasty There is miso inside You can enjoy a refined sweetness along with the flavor of the vegetables And it has a chewy texture with the ingredients packed tightly The quality is really high I prefer Nagano’s oyaki over nikuman I’ll have the shiitake mushrooms This is also delicious You can enjoy the juicy shiitake mushrooms with a crunchy texture It’s hard to choose which of these three types of oyaki to pick It seems like preferences will vary between shiitake, nozawana miso, and apple When you are offered local specialties like this right from check-in, your satisfaction level skyrockets There is a hot spring sommelier certification at the front desk We can consult this staff about anything related to bathing and hot springs You can see their dedication to hot springs They sell interesting things like this at the front desk It says ‘kiri-bi’ (cutting fire) I hear it’s often seen in historical dramas, but I didn’t know about it I hear that this is used when my father goes out and my mother sees him off It seems that many foreigners buy this and take it home Do you all know about kiribi? It really seems like fire will come out of this It’s a bit difficult In the old days, people used to send off their fathers like this It’s interesting The room I’ve checked in, so I’m heading to the guest room We’re staying in the new building, so we’ll go outside and head to the new building from this corridor The snow visible on the right is unbelievable The snow is stretching down from the roof like a big blob The clumps of snow piled up around here are amazing This is snow that looks like the drift ice I saw in Shiretoko It seems that this year, winter brought a lot of snow, and the snowstorms were really tough Many tourists come to see this snow, so they get excited when they see it And here is the new building A nice smell of tatami is wafting through It has just been renovated, so it’s very clean It features a modern design with slightly curved wooden lattice There is a free drink and snack corner exclusively for guests of the new building Of course, you can also enjoy the drink snaps at the lobby lounge Is this kaki-pi and chocolate? The refrigerator is stocked with soft drinks and alcoholic beverages It’s nice that this refrigerator is close to the room and can be used 24 hours a day And then we head towards the guest room The guest room we are staying in this time is the only one that has a natural hot spring inside It’s room Akisame 108 I’m going on a room tour It’s open First, this is the area of the bedroom and living room Wow, there is an amazing view right in front of me I’ll show you in detail later There are three beds lined up here The ceiling is quite high, creating an open and spacious atmosphere This headboard has many ornaments that evoke a sense of Japanese aesthetics This area is raised slightly The thick mattress is used, so it seems like the sleeping comfort is quite good Since it has just been renovated, there are properly installed outlets and power switches on both sides, making it very convenient to use There is a daybed placed next to the bed where you can relax in a starfish position The daybed next to the bed is essential for me during hotel stays Here, you can lie back and gaze at the vast expanse of the white horse land spread out before you It’s wonderful that the view is so great even though it’s a room on the first floor I’ve never really experienced anything like this before There is nothing blocking my view, and I can gaze at this highland and the majestic mountains This is an extraordinary space that I haven’t experienced much before The air conditioner is here This area is designated for the mini-bar Since I have a coffee mill, I can make coffee from coffee beans I’m happy as a coffee lover like me There are deodorizing mist and tissues available There are tea bags in here There is an electric kettle on the left The refrigerator is below this There are plenty of drinks in the lounge space and hallway, so the only thing in the refrigerator is this water Thanks to the light coming in through this large window, the room is bright and spacious A large Toshiba television is placed here And here we have a lovely sofa and a mini table Surprisingly, there are Nagano apples provided as part of the inclusive service You can enjoy two whole apples It says that it’s okay to take it home as a souvenir They are also preparing a fruit knife for you This is a service typical of Nagano Prefecture I have returned to the entrance There is a door here This is a closet There are indoor clothes prepared below This is a samue-style outfit, and there is a fairly thick outer garment underneath There are also fluffy slippers for indoor use The door next to the closet is the toilet And there is a water area beyond the other door on this side First, there is a washbasin A simple color scheme in harmony with nature This area has various amenities There are hairbrushes, body towels, razors, and toothbrushes On the left shelf, there are various towels such as bath towels and hand towels A SALONIA hairdryer is provided And the enjoyable in-room hot spring is just ahead The bathtub is the perfect size to stretch out your legs and relax There is a shower attached to the right side The mirror is really big The shower is also sparkling clean Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are all provided The hot spring water is brought from the large public bath, so you can enjoy the flowing hot spring in your guest room as well You can fully enjoy the majestic snowy landscape typical of Hakuba while soaking in the guest room hot spring in complete privacy There’s a small window, so it seems like you can let some air in Today, I want to fully enjoy the wonderful scenery typical of Shinshu, the hot springs, and the evening barbecue The accommodation here can be booked for around 20,000 yen per person for a room for two with two meals included That price is for the most basic guest room This guest room has an attached hot spring, making it a high-grade room Here, you can stay in a room for two with two meals included starting from around 40,000 yen per person However, there is a large public bath with a sauna and an outdoor bath, so I think you can be satisfied even if your room doesn’t have a hot spring It seems that we can choose a guest room according to our budget With the permission of the inn staff, we were able to take a quick look at some other guest rooms After that, let’s go check out the large public bath I would like to see other guest rooms This is the room on the second floor of the main building called ‘Gekku’ You can stay here at a more reasonable price than the room I’m staying in It’s been renovated, so it’s beautiful The tatami mats are neatly laid out, allowing you to relax here in a starfish position There is a dragon lantern attached above It’s really huge This is the first time I’ve seen such a large lantern in a room The big TV and this tiny table feel just like my guest room This room has plenty of mattresses and beds, so I think it can accommodate four people It seems like it would be comfortable for groups or families to stay here In the back, there are yukatas and a refrigerator Looking back, there is a space like a closet at the back This room is a loft type As you move forward, there are stairs on the left There is a washbasin on the right side If you go left, there is a shower beyond the door on the right here If you want to take a hot spring bath, you can use the large public bath The toilet is in front of the shower The toilet and shower are separate Let’s go to the loft What is there in the loft? I will climb up the stairs, which are a bit dim and quite steep The loft area is also beautifully covered with tatami mats It has a secret base vibe that will surely excite the kids Even if you come in a group, the space is spacious, so everyone can have fun together The hallway is also covered with tatami, making it feel really nice underfoot There are also traditional decorations on the ceiling I would like to see another guest room This is a room called ‘Goku’ There is also a loft above here The layout is different from the previous room The space in this room’s Japanese-style room is a bit more compact And there is a spacious bedroom on the right side This huge lantern is quite impressive as well Looking up at the ceiling, beautiful traditional Japanese textiles are laid out It’s vibrant and visually impressive There is a television here The beds are lined up like this all the way to the back The water area feels similar to the previous room There is a sink with a shower room and a toilet on either side At the back of the stairs, there is a space like a walk-in closet I will try going up the stairs At first, I thought this was a space with flooring But when I look back, there is a vast space with tatami mats There is a mattress placed here as well This room can accommodate up to 7 people The more people you stay with, the cheaper it will be per person This definitely seems like a fun group trip Next, I will show you inside this detached trailer house It seems like you can stay here relatively affordably First, when you enter, there is a bunk bed Then, if you go further in, there is a living space, and it’s nice that the bedroom and living room are separated The tatami area is quite spacious, and it seems like a great place to relax There is a yukata set under the right hand There is a refrigerator, a table, and a mirror There is a television in front of me And this right side is the area for water facilities There is a sink right in front of you If you open the left door, this is the shower space If you want to take a bath other than in a room with an onsen, you can go to the large public bath There is a toilet to the right of the sink If you look to the left, there is a door here as well I’ll give it a try There’s a private space that resembles a balcony If you look to the right, you can catch a glimpse of a majestic mountain Ice is protruding from above and looks like it could fall at any moment Next, I’m going to try the large public bath I’ve arrived at the large public bath When I look up at the changing room space, there is a surround around the lighting It feels like the round lighting harmonizes well with the artwork In the spacious changing room, there is a locker on the right side This is the area of the washbasin The mirror of the washbasin is large A hairdryer is also provided There are instructions on how to take a bath around here Hakuba has a lot of inbound tourists It seems that some foreigners, who don’t have a culture of bathing naked, enter the bathtub while still wearing clothes or swimsuits So there is a bathing guide in both Japanese and English You will enter the bathroom There is a large indoor bath on the left Since the spring is flowing from the left side, I wonder if the left side has become the hotter hot spring On the wall, there is an explanation about the Hakuba mountain range in the Northern Alps These are mountains close to 3000 meters in elevation There is a shower here The space for washing your body continues in a line I wonder if we go outside through the door at the back First, there is a cold water bath on the left side It seems like I can stretch my legs and fully immerse myself There is a sauna It has just been renovated, so a nice scent of wood is wafting through The sauna room is spacious and ample The thermometer reads over 80 degrees Depending on the time of day, it can get as hot as 90 degrees, so it’s quite warm There is an open-air bath ahead I like the spaciousness of the stone bath It’s an open-air bath There is a snowy mountain right in front of us There is a ceiling on the left side, but here there is no ceiling, so when you look up, you see the sky Can you see the starry sky at night? If it were midwinter, it would probably be snowing, making it a snow-viewing bath There is a sauna, so there is also a space for relaxation On this side, there are several stone baths You can enjoy a relaxing snow-viewing bath in a completely private space I saw the bamboo bath on the far left for the first time It’s a cute and compact bathtub Children would probably be delighted to get in After a long journey, I’m tired, so I’ll relax and soak in the hot spring in a completely private space Having a hot spring in the guest room is the best because I can take a bath immediately upon arrival without being disturbed by anyone The temperature is a bit lukewarm, and it gradually warms my body, so the temperature setting is perfect The spring quality is sodium, chloride, bicarbonate hot spring, and weakly alkaline It is a hot spring with no peculiarities and a slightly thick texture The bathtub is spacious, allowing you to stretch your legs fully and relax in a starfish position And above all, this view you see on the right This is a perfect snow-viewing bath It’s a bath time experience that you can’t enjoy in your everyday life It’s the best I was able to open the windows on both sides like this When I opened the window, a cool breeze came in, making it even more pleasant This snowy landscape really feels special I will try the juice made with the inclusive service’s karin syrup Let’s eat It’s delicious I thought it was a type of pear because the kanji is ‘梨’, but it’s completely different It seems that you can’t eat karin normally It seems that it is often used to make syrups due to its rich flavor It has a rich sweetness similar to honey It seems to have an effect of suppressing throat inflammation I think it’s a good drink to have not only after a bath but also before going to bed I didn’t know about the famous quince drink from Nagano I might quietly like Yakult the most after a bath Dinner It’s time for the enjoyable dinner Dinner will be served at the restaurant located further back in this lobby We’re having a barbecue dinner at the yakiniku restaurant we saw when we came in The yakiniku course has arrived First, on the bottom left, we have salted tongue, harami, upper rib, pork, vegetables, sausage, and the premium beef ribeye, which has an amazing marbling And on the bottom right, it reflects the light, but it says ‘Alps Beef Sirloin.’ This is local meat from Shinshu The staff mentioned that since it’s sliced thin, you should eat it in a sukiyaki style with soy sauce and egg The quality of the meat looks really good and delicious Despite being a yakiniku course, sushi was served Moreover, six rolls were brought out This area has kimchi, namul, and choreg salad On the far right, there are edamame, making for a luxurious lineup This is the portion for one person In addition to the grilled meat course, it seems there are also ‘shabu-shabu course’ and ‘sukiyaki-style meat hot pot course’ Rice and soup are of course included By the way, drinks can be ordered by scanning a QR code There are beers and shandy available We have shochu, bottled wine, and sake Sake is available as part of the inclusive service during the evening hours We also have chu-hai, and there are soft drinks available as well First, I’ll have a beer Let’s eat It’s the best It’s ‘Suntory All-Free’ (non-alcoholic) First, I’ll start with the salted tongue For me, the very first thing at a barbecue is salted tongue Among all the grilled meats, I might like salted tongue the most I prefer lean and light meats I haven’t been able to eat a lot of things like kalbi since long ago That’s why I have such a skinny physique Even in my teens, I liked things like tuna and chicken As I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to prefer lighter foods more and more Of course, I like kalbi too, but I can’t eat it after a certain point It looks really delicious There’s a bit of redness left, so this is definitely going to be tasty I’ll enjoy the salt tongue with lemon It’s delicious Recently, the price of salt tongue has been rising, so there are more yakiniku restaurants offering it in thin slices The salted tongue at this restaurant is thickly sliced, meaty, and delicious I really do like salted tongue It goes really well with rice Next is the representative of light grilled meat, which is harami This is the red meat of the upper loin I like the perfect marbling of the loin And this is the premium loin The frost is amazing The way this grill marks the food is great I think it’s a little burnt, but definitely delicious I will dip the harami in the sauce before eating It’s delicious It has a strong flavor of red meat It’s tender, and with each bite, the flavor of the meat gradually melts in your mouth The flavor of the red meat spreads as you chew, and the harami is also excellent I will also have the upper loin It’s delicious The balance of lean meat and fat is truly exquisite There’s no one who dislikes sirloin, right? I’m really enjoying the beer It was so delicious that I drank it all at once And I will have the premium beef loin It’s really thickly sliced This is definitely premium Even though it was so thick, it melted away in no time and disappeared from my mouth It’s covered in frost and super gooey Since I had something juicy, I’m taking a little break with some refreshing kimchi The kimchi is also incredibly delicious, so it goes well with rice It’s delicious Playing hard with skiing and snowboarding, then relaxing my tired body in a hot spring and getting hungry to eat grilled meat is the best! Surprisingly, there is also sushi It’s the ultimate luxury to be able to enjoy the top two favorite things of Japanese people together That was salmon This is scallop I feel like having sake I’m here I tried ordering the recommended sake from the staff It’s delicious This has a fruity and light flavor Still, it feels like the umami of sake is concentrated This is really easy to drink, so be careful not to overdo it I really like this Just as I was warned about drinking too much, I already poured another glass Next is the Alps beef sirloin This also looks delicious I will have the Alps beef sirloin It’s thinly sliced, but it has a rich beef flavor and a nice aroma The sweetness of the soy sauce combined with the richness of the egg creates a delightful flavor variation, and this is good in its own way Beer is nice, but since it’s like sukiyaki, I think sake would also be delicious It’s delicious The sukiyaki-style Alps beef sirloin is the best It pairs well with sake It’s a luxurious dinner The dessert is ice cream and roasted marshmallows I had roasted marshmallows for the first time in a while, and they are delicious The irresistible roasted bitterness amidst the sweetness is just perfect When traveling, it’s nice to have moments that bring back memories of delicious food from the past At first, I wondered if this amount of meat would be enough, but it was more than enough My stomach is feeling really full right now It’s around 7:30, so I’ll relax in my room after this I think I’ll get a little hungry around 9 o’clock, so I’m really looking forward to the late-night soba Since it’s 9 o’clock now, I’m going to have the late-night soba There is also free alcohol available on the front side This is yaki-nikuyaki soba I was worried I couldn’t eat soba since I had a lot of grilled meat, but it looks like I can manage because it’s a small size I’ll add the broth Since we’re here, I’ll also have some sake I think it’s a different type from the fresh sake I had earlier I’m starting to feel a little hungry I can eat this even after a meal It’s refreshing and delicious Since it’s a broth, it goes well with sake It has a bit more of a solid spiciness compared to the raw one from earlier What is it about the temptation of noodle dishes that comes at such late hours? There is also a sense of satisfaction after eating I wish all hotels would implement this late-night soba service I am completely satisfied now.
After this, it’s sauna and hot spring time in the large bath It’s time for the evening hot spring session It gets even colder at night I definitely think hot springs feel great It feels really good The sense of openness is completely different compared to the in-room hot spring You can relax and stretch your legs in the spacious bathtub There is still a lot of snow on the left side It’s a complete open-air bath; the cold wind blowing from above makes the hot spring seep into my body It’s the best At this hot spring, you can not only soak in the water but also freely bring drinks from the lobby I’ve never seen a service like this at other inns At this time, there’s a sake service, so one of the pleasures is being able to enjoy sake while viewing the snow I don’t think I’ve ever had sake while viewing the snow before I haven’t seen snow, but I have soaked in an onsen while drinking sake in Kyushu It’s irresistible for sake lovers What a luxurious and extraordinary experience this is I think at other inns, you can only enjoy private baths or hot springs in your room Being able to use the large public bath is the best And the final touch is the sauna It’s cold It’s extremely cold, so the water is really cold too I think it’s probably around 12 degrees Personally, this is the perfect temperature This is a completely balanced feeling Good night The next day Good morning First, it’s breakfast Breakfast is in the same venue as yesterday’s dinner The buffet is arranged like this First, there are various salads on the front side There are dressings, cereals, and fruits In the back, there are tempura made from vegetables grown in Nagano Prefecture The number of ingredients is outrageous I’ve never seen such luxurious tempura in the morning There are grilled fish, omelets, and grilled chicken around here In addition, there are sausages, bacon, and scrambled eggs It’s yakisoba, hash browns, and onion rings It’s rare to find takoyaki Foreigners must be happy to see takoyaki This contains steamed dumplings and shumai There are many side dishes lined up around here There is also a cute handmade tofu Additionally, there are coffee and soft drinks available And over here, there is a miso soup full of ingredients And there is rice This is ‘curry from a yakiniku restaurant,’ so it looks delicious with plenty of meat and ingredients inside Finally, there is also bread I will have tempura made with vegetables from Nagano Prefecture There are many majestic mountains, so the quality of the vegetables is high I will also have curry It’s a curry from a yakiniku restaurant, so it has a lot of meat in it The tofu is smooth and really delicious It’s a bit too luxurious of a breakfast for the morning When I woke up today, I was surrounded by fog and couldn’t see the scenery at all The sun has come out a bit now If it had been a really nice morning, it seems I could have enjoyed a pretty good view of the sunrise from my guest room Unfortunately, I couldn’t see it today The fog creates a fantastical scenery, which is nice in its own way The weather in the mountains can change rapidly Since the sun has come out a lot, I might be able to see it when I return to my room The sun looks beautiful But it’s still wrapped in fog, so the mountains are not visible Isn’t there a possibility that the morning mist looks beautiful when we reach the mountain peak? The sunlight feels warm, and I can sense the arrival of spring Finally, I enjoy the hot spring and then check out Thank you very much You can make a fire here So this is how you do it It is said that putting it on your right shoulder is good luck It seems that the journey ahead will be a good one Today, I’m going to eat Genghis Khan Thank you very much The closest ski resort to the inn is Goryu Ski Resort Of course, there is a magnificent ski slope here, and to the left, there is an impressive complex facility Inside the building, there are plenty of winter sports shops and restaurants, so it seems like you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding quite comfortably We departed from Hakuba and have arrived at Shinshu-Shinmachi It takes about 30 minutes from Hakuba, I guess We’ll soon arrive at the Genghis Khan restaurant The snow has completely melted away I thought about having Genghis Khan, but that restaurant over there is super popular and fully booked with seven groups waiting There are no tourist spots here, and today is a weekday, but I was surprised at how many people there were Maybe Genghis Khan has taken root in the local area, and many locals come to eat it as well If you’re going to the shop we just visited, it’s better for everyone to make a reservation I looked for a café, but since it’s not a tourist area, there are no cafés While I was waiting and drinking coffee at 7-Eleven, I found an interesting supermarket It’s a supermarket that feels very local This is Fresh Top Tanakaya There is a Genghis Khan corner in the supermarket Isn’t it amazing? I’ve never seen anything like this Since it comes with sauce, I guess you can just grill it and enjoy it as is It says ‘Tanakaya Supermarket’s homemade Genghis Khan’ It mentions that there are both Australian lamb and Shinshu Shinmachi Suffolk The fact that they sell this means that Genghis Khan has taken root among the locals, right? I don’t think tourists would buy this It says here ‘100% used from Shinshu Shinmachi-produced Suffolk.’ Local meat made from sheep is being sold There are a lot of options available They even sell lamb chops I want this supermarket to be near my house Lamb meat is the meat of young sheep Mutton is the meat of adult sheep Lamb has less of a gamey smell Mutton has a stronger flavor that is characteristic of sheep Suffolk refers to a breed that is suitable for meat consumption This is the first time I’ve seen a supermarket selling such a wide variety of Genghis Khan By the way, everything lined up around here is frozen, so you can buy it and take it home on the last day There are also many people coming by car from Tokyo, right? It’s about time to return to the Genghis Khan restaurant There are many Genghis Khan restaurants I’m back This is the very popular Genghis Khan restaurant ‘Musashiya’ It’s almost your turn It was just right to see some interesting local supermarkets My name was called, so I’m going Actually, we were closed until yesterday It was a close call I’m lucky First, I’ll order the classic flavor They also have Suffolk lamb and mutton, as well as lamb chops The portion size seems to be on the larger side There is also a platter available There are also vegetables It’s a Genghis Khan restaurant, but we also have beef available Over here, we have rice, soups, salads, and kimchi For lunch, we also have set meals Are set meals a better deal? Since it’s a takeout item, they will probably prepare it frozen I ordered a half-and-half of lamb and mutton And then there’s the lamb chop By the way, the vegetable platter is really large It’s truly piled high There is a bit of a difference from the Genghis Khan you eat in Hokkaido I don’t think this pot is meant for Genghis Khan I guess it means enjoying lamb and other meats as grilled meat This is mutton And next is lamb meat The color is a bit different The lamb seems to have a stronger reddish tone You can tell just by looking at it And here are the lamb chops I will enjoy the lamb meat There’s no unpleasant smell at all, and it’s delicious As expected of lamb meat The staff mentioned that they are probably using Australian meat at this time of year Still, it must be keeping its freshness, right? This is mutton Mutton really is completely different It has a slightly unique smell typical of sheep, and you can really feel that it’s lamb meat You can enjoy the difference between the two flavors I think it will be a matter of personal preference I really like fresh lamb meat that doesn’t have any gamey smell It’s hard to find places to eat Genghis Khan outside of the northern regions, so I’m happy that there are restaurants where I can enjoy it casually like this The beer goes down well It’s the best! Speaking of which, I just had grilled meat yesterday too But I can hardly eat lamb meat It’s a trip where I can enjoy both luxurious, high-quality beef and fine lamb It’s the best! The lamb chops are also grilling nicely A little bit of a reddish char is nice This one is definitely delicious too The lamb chops have a nice char on them The meat is thick and juicy, it’s irresistible Since the inside is a bit pink, you can really enjoy the flavor of the red meat Although it’s thick and juicy, the lamb has a refreshing flavor that makes it go down easily Lamb is healthy yet delicious, making it the best choice It pairs well with beer I drank it all in no time It was a luxurious trip to Nagano with two consecutive days of eating grilled meat Everyone, please visit Nagano’s Hakuba Village to experience the great nature and delicious food
