【加速する衰退】山間にひっそりと佇む時が止まったレトロな温泉街!秘湯と町並みを楽しむノスタルジック旅。鹿児島県秘境の穴場観光スポット「川内高城温泉」

Press the subtitle button or CC button to enjoy the full subtitles. Hello everyone, this is Watatabi. Today I would like to go to a rustic hot spring town deep in the mountains. I’m looking forward to it because it’s a hot spring area I’ve been interested in for a while. The location is Satsumasendai City, located in the northwest of Kagoshima Prefecture. I’m heading for Kawauchi Takagi Onsen, a quiet, retro hot spring town that appears in the mountains. This time, I would like to stop by some scenic spots as well. I’ll start from Aira City. For now, I guess we’ve arrived. We’ve arrived. It looks like a parking lot, but here there is a hot spring called Keikokuen, a restaurant, and a bento shop. It also says fishing pond. It seems like there is a waterfall up ahead, so I’d like to go there. It seems like the waterfall is really just a short walk away. You can hear the sound of the river. This side is a river. The water is also beautiful. I think the waterfall is up ahead. It was really just a short walk from the parking lot. Ah, I can see it faintly. There is a pond. There are a ton of fish swimming around. This fish looks like a rainbow trout. “Please do not return the fish you catch to the pond.” “We will salt them lightly and put them on ice to take home. ” “Please take them as souvenirs and grill them with salt .” Ah, so this is the fishing pond. It seems they will also prepare the fish for souvenirs. And that is the waterfall over there. It is so amazing! It is a mysterious world with a lot of moss. I can’t imagine such a view spreading from the shop right there. How high is the drop? It doesn’t seem to be 20 meters. The ferns and moss are amazing! This time of year may be the most beautiful. There is a waterfall over here, a fishing pond over here, and they will prepare the fish for souvenirs, and there is a hot spring, a restaurant, a bento shop, and so on, so I think it is a place that you can enjoy. Oh, is this… a loquat? It looks delicious. I’m going to take a bath in the hot spring now. Let’s head there right away. Can I stay here? Oh, it seems you can stay overnight. Suddenly I entered the fog. The fog was so intense… The parking lot was 300m away. There was no one there. I arrived. This is “Yururi no Yu”. This is a reservation-only bath and a large bath that can be reserved at least 2 hours in advance. I’ll go in right away. 5494-85 Koriyama-cho, Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture Yururi no Yu More and more customers are coming. “Shaved ice has started” That’s nice. Let’s go in. The reception looks like this. This is a candy store. The large bath is in front of the reception. The women’s bath seems to be a stone bath, and the men’s bath seems to be a wooden bath. This seems to change weekly. This is the reception, but when you enter from the reception, the baths are lined up like this. This time I will use “Hinoki”. I will use the Hinoki bath. Inside looks like this. Here is a sink and a hair dryer. This is frosted glass, so if you pull down the roll it will hide your eyes. And right here is the bath. Let’s take a look. It’s really good. It smells of sulfur. This is the shower, and body soap and shampoo are provided. It costs 1500 yen on weekdays and 2000 yen on weekends for one hour. My wife and I are here, so it’s 750 yen per person. So the more people you have, the better the deal. It seems you can also stay overnight in the building next door. This is a family bath, and there are eight types. Two of them are barrier-free. A barrier-free cypress bath and a barrier-free clay wall stone bath. And this cypress bath I’m in now. Another cypress bath called Ohinoki, and Hinoki no Mori. This one looks good too. This is a hagama bath. And this is a tub bath and… this one is ceramic. It’s amazing, it looks like the hot water comes out of these shells. There are eight types of family baths like this. The price is the same for all the hot springs. There is also a large public bath, which you can use for 460 yen. The spring quality is alkaline simple sulfur spring. It’s colorless and transparent. And it smells of sulfur. It stopped. It’s a little hot, so I’m adding water. Now I’ll go in. It’s a little hot… it’s just the right temperature. Even if it gets lukewarm, it seems that the spring water can be drawn out from this tap. The smell of the cypress and the smell of sulfur combine to make it incredibly calming. This is the water here, and it’s a little viscous, and it makes my skin really smooth. I went in the hot spring. It was really good. The location is also good, and the smell of the wood and the smell of sulfur are really good. It was a private bath where I could relax and take my time. It ‘s available for 1500 yen on weekdays, so I think it’s really cheap. I highly recommend this private bath. There’s an air conditioner, so it’s cool. There seems to be a stamp card. If you go in 10 times, you get a half-price ticket for 1 hour. This would be great if you lived nearby. It’s valid for one year, so I don’t think I’ll ever get enough stamps. There’s something called hot spring coffee. I bought hot spring coffee after taking a bath. It’s really delicious. Let’s go. It’s really good here. The rain comes and goes. From here, we head for the waterfall about 8.6km away. Oh, you can go in by car… No one comes here. It’s really rough… The road is bad… There’s not much parking space. Only 3-4 cars can be parked. We arrived at the parking lot. This is a waterfall called Nagano Falls. It seems to be a location for the drama “Saigo Don”. Sorry, I’ve never seen “Saigo Don” so I don’t know what it is, but it seems to be a location. There’s not much space to park a car. About 4 cars can be parked. The waterfall seems to be 60m away from here. It’s behind this sign… the bamboo is amazing. More than 100 bamboos are growing in this one place… amazing… They look like sea urchins. Let’s go and see it right away. It’s only 60m from the parking lot, so it’s a pretty easy waterfall to see. From this point on, it suddenly gets cooler. It’s a bit chilly. Suddenly, it feels so… amazing… it’s amazing! This is amazing! Beyond the dense cedar forest, a cave-like opening comes into view. A mysterious space appears, as if you’ve suddenly wandered into another world. Nagano Falls A waterfall with a drop of about 13 meters appears about 60 meters down the mountain path. The waterfall flows from a gap in the moss-covered rock mountain, creating a mysterious space. It is also a waterfall where you can see the waterfall from behind. Behind the waterfall basin, there is a deep cave. Here it is. It’s a mysterious place that feels like another world… and even scary. There is a lot of water . It’s really amazing! The amount of water is incredible. It may be because it rained yesterday and the day before yesterday that the amount of water is this much. If the amount of water was a little less, I think I could go to the back of the waterfall. It’s a very mossy world like this. As expected from a movie location, it was a very impressive waterfall. Not only is it impressive, but it has a mysteriousness that makes you feel a little scared. It was really good. It’s a really easy waterfall to see, as you just have to go straight 60 meters from the parking lot. I recommend you to come and see it too. I really recommend this place. I’m back. This Nagano Falls appeared in the drama “Saigo Don”, and I’m a bit curious as to how this waterfall is portrayed in the drama. I’d like to see it again. Now, let’s go to the hot spring. If we don’t hurry, it will be pitch black. Yes, we’re out. I don’t know the route because there is no signal… I proceed through the forest as Google Navi guides me. It ‘s about an hour’s drive from Nagano Falls. Then, a rustic hot spring town suddenly appears in the mountain area. We arrived at Kawauchi Takagi Onsen. This is the hot spring area. Let’s go right away. It’s a pretty retro hot spring area, and it’s a place I’ve always wanted to come to. It used to be called Yugouchi, and later it was called Yunomoto Onsen and Kawauchi Takagi Onsen. In 1967, with the establishment of the Kawauchi Onsen Development Cooperative Association, it became “Kawauchi Takagi Onsen”. It seems that many people call Kawauchi Takagi Onsen “Yuda Onsen” because it is located in Yuda-cho, Satsumasendai City. At its peak, there were 11 inns in operation, but now there are only 6, and it seems that the lack of successors due to depopulation is the cause. I want to preserve it for future generations! Such a good old townscape remains today. This train is amazing. 1989… This inn was built in 1989, but this carriage is even older. It is said that the discovery of this hot spring dates back to around 1200. There are various theories about the specific year of the hot spring’s discovery, so the details are still unknown. The map of the hot spring area looks like this. It seems like there are quite a few shops, but I wonder. I walked all the way from the parking lot to this area, and it felt a little lonely, but I wonder. This is “Yakitori Setchan”. It seems to be only open on Saturdays. It seems that they light the charcoal and grill the yakitori properly. It seems that this was also a location for a drama. The drama “Hold Me Tightly”… I’m not sure… but there is Saigo Takamori. It seems to be Saigo Takamori’s favorite hot spring. This “Saigo Don” was a historical drama. I didn’t know that. It seems like I’ve been touring the locations of historical dramas without knowing it. I actually wanted to stay overnight in this hot spring town, but there were only guesthouses and inns that only served breakfast (that day), so I won’t be staying overnight. However, I’d like to stroll around this hot spring town, take a bath at the public bath, and then go home. This hotel is being swallowed up by vines. What about this one? Is it open? It doesn’t look like it’s open from the outside, but the inside of the building is very clean and it looks like it’s open. I thought there would be a lot of people taking day trips, but there aren’t any at all. There’s a river flowing here. Is it a sulfur spring? It smells really sulfurous. I wonder if this Takeya Ryokan is the most famous inn. The bus stop here is also called “Takeyamae”. I wonder which building is Takeya Ryokan. This seems to be Takeya Ryokan. It was right in front of us. “Dangerous area of steep slopes” “There is a risk of landslides in this area, so please be careful.” I see. It’s a souvenir shop, I think. They sell alcohol and all sorts of things. Wow, it’s so retro. I didn’t think it would be this retro. Seriously, it’s amazing. It feels like time has stopped here. Buses come here too. There aren’t many of them, though. There’s an observation deck over there. I’ll go there. This is it. I’m not sure if it’s an observation deck or something. I’ve climbed quite a bit. Wow, what a retro townscape. Rather than declining, it gives the impression of being a retro hot spring town. It’s a very charming hot spring town. It wasn’t that the view was great. Maybe the trees have grown too much. This looks like land for sale. Wow, there’s a well. It feels like time has stopped here. This looks like a barber shop. Here is a shrine called Kumano Shrine. It looks like you can get a view from here. I’ll go there. Oh! I’m surprised! Sorry, sorry. I’m surprised! I was so surprised… I was so surprised that they were also surprised and their backs were all shrunk (lol) sorry. Well, the shrine is… on the left. It’s not really a view, but you can see the townscape from here. It’s getting dark and it’s a very atmospheric place. It closed before I knew it… I was going to take a peek inside… What a shame. There are several places where you can take a day trip bath, but since I’m here, I’d like to take a bath in the public bath over there. This is it. It seems to be Saigo’s favorite bath. He said he’s never been in the middle. He always bathes in the corner of the bath. Next to it are “Futabaya” and “Futaba Ryokan”. I wonder if they’re open now. I’m not sure. You put money here, and there are men’s and women’s baths, so you can go in. It’s really cheap. 200 yen for adults, 100 yen for children, and 100 yen for adults and 50 yen for children for local residents. You can even pay with PayPay. Bathing hours are from 11am to 7pm, and it’s now 6:15pm so I hurry in. The bathtub is over here, and over here is the changing room. The spring is a clear, colorless alkaline simple sulfur spring. It has a strong rotten egg smell. I love sulfur springs, so this is irresistible. Hot! This one is really hot. I’ll go in here. Hot! The spring has a very viscous quality. It looks like it’s 43-44 degrees. This one is too hot to get in. It looks like it’s 45 degrees or even hotter. I went in to the public bath. It was really good. The bath was filled with the smell of sulfur, The spring water is thick and viscous, warming you from the core. It’s quite moving to think that Saigo Takamori also bathed in the same water. The street lights are on. I’m sure this lantern will be lit up too, so I’ll wait until then. I didn’t have my camera on, but it was fun talking to various people. According to one theory, it was discovered by a certain Otani, a resident of Kawauchi Oshoji, during the Bunwa era (1352-1355), and it is also said to have been discovered by a missionary about 800 years ago. Kawauchi Takagi Onsen has been loved by many people as a hot spring inn since ancient times. The hot spring inn, loved by many people, still retains its appearance today. The faint smell of sulfur and the nostalgic townscape with inns and shops lined up. The townscape may change as the town loses its vitality due to a lack of successors. Kawauchi Takagi Onsen is declining for a different reason than other hot spring towns. Is there any way to preserve this precious scenery? It’s already dark. Now, we’re heading to our next destination. This time we visited Kawauchi Takagi Onsen. What did you think? I recommend you to visit it too. See you in the next video! Thank you for watching until the end.

  7. What a magical little town. Hopefully there are some younger people with the vision to come in and take over and renovate some of these places and businesses while preserving some of that retro charm.
