Hello! [Destination Stroll] Koto Trip 🐦️ We are bringing you the scenery of a walk in a small destination.This time, we will introduce the World Heritage Site “Gokayama Suganuma Gassho-zukuri Village” in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture.The thatched-roof houses nestled in the tranquil mountains make you feel like you have stepped into an old tale. The beautiful original scenery of Japan is spreading out. Suganuma village is a small village with only nine gassho-zukuri houses lined up. In 1995, along with Shirakawa-go, it was registered as a world cultural heritage site. The snowy scenery in winter and the autumn leaves are beautiful, but this time we will be looking at the fresh greenery and the early summer breeze. Let’s take a leisurely walk ☺️ Suganuma is an open village built in accordance with Shogawa’s warning.The Gassho- zukuri style is a traditional architectural style that is unique to this region, which experiences heavy snowfall . The angle is a whopping 60 degrees so that the snow naturally slides off the roof.The roof is all thatched.The thatch is hand-covered by craftsmen using local pampas grass and reed . The “roof re-thatching” carried out at the Rachiso-Dashi is an important event that protects the lives of the community. Gassho-zukuri houses are built without pillars and are tied together with ropes. Some of the houses are four stories high, and the first floor was used as a living space, and the area above the second floor was used to grow silkworms. In front of the house, the rice fields before planting sparkle and the thatched roofs are reflected in the water, which is a spectacular view. Many tourists can enjoy the unique atmosphere of this area. Next up is the elevator . Aim for the observation deck overlooking the Suganuma village.As you walk towards the back of the village, you will walk through a quiet tunnel for a while to the entrance of the tunnel.It will be about 100 meters.There was also a signboard for the elevator.From here, take the elevator. I headed to the parking lot on the hill and walked a little along the path of the parking lot toward the observation plaza, and the observation plaza came into view.From the plaza, you can see a panoramic view of Suganuma village.However , the view from here is beautiful enough, but the spectacular view spot is a little further up here. here.
