A report on my 2-day, 1-night stay at Koganoi Resort & Spa in Shirahama. I’m currently traveling in Shirahama. I’m on my way to the hotel where I’ll be staying tonight. The hotel I’m staying at today is Koganoi Resort & Spa. It opened in 1992 as Koganoi Bay Hotel. I can see it! After that, it underwent a major renovation in 2015. It opened anew as Shirahama Koganoi Resort & Spa. As for the location of the hotel, it’s located on a hill in Shirahama Town. It’s a 10-minute bus ride from Shirarahama Beach. It’s a 10-minute bus ride from Shirahama Station to Yuzaki or Shinyuzaki. It’s also surrounded by the sea. All rooms have an ocean view. I walked there, but it was quite a hill… There’s nothing around, so it looks like the view is great. Quite a hill. I walked there, but I don’t recommend it… The hotel has a shuttle bus. It runs from Shirahama Station to the hotel. You can use it for free without making a reservation. There is also a free parking lot. No reservation is required, first come first served. It can accommodate 110 cars. We’ve climbed quite a bit. If you park around here, it’s close to the hotel. Shirahama Koganoi Resort & Spa Total number of rooms: 172 Large communal bath: Yes Indoor pool: Yes Parking: Yes (free). The hotel is ranked on Jalan.net. It’s the best place to stay award. It’s ranked first in the 101-300 rooms category in Wakayama Prefecture! By the way, it’s also ranked first in the “best-selling hotel award.” It’s amazing to be ranked first in both reviews and sales (^^). Now let’s go check in. Check-in is at 3:00 p.m. Natural light pours in from the large windows in the lobby. It had a bright and calm atmosphere. And from the lobby you can see the courtyard with a resort feel. It was lit up at night. There is a tea lounge on the lobby floor. There is a shop. The shop was large. The inside of the building looks like this. On the second basement floor, there is a hot spring and a pool. What’s that? There was a welcome drink. The black vinegar plum honey looks delicious (^^). They also have Kishu plum wine and Detrex water. It’s nice that they have plum wine (^^). Next, let’s go see the pool. The comfortable light from the courtyard is nice. Let’s go down the stairs there. There! There was a living lounge here. There were free drinks here. There was yuzu honey and apple vinegar. There was also the famous water “Tomita no Mizu”. And beyond this are the hot springs and the heated pool. There! There was the entrance to the garden here. I’ll go there later. Wow. Resort feel! You can access the pool from inside the large bath. It’s a very open pool (^^). Looking up, the ceiling was made of glass. There are cabanas around the pool that you can use for free. A “cabana” is a small private space. It has a curtain partition. And there is also an area with reclining chairs. There’s a jacuzzi! It’s compact, but it was a pool where you could enjoy the resort atmosphere. They have a night pool at night, so let’s go back and see it. There is also a space for after-bath and an esthetic salon. There is also a karaoke room (charged) on the second basement floor. Return to the lobby floor. There are two restaurants on the lobby floor. A Japanese restaurant and a teppanyaki restaurant. There is also a buffet restaurant. It is also a dinner and breakfast venue. There is also a corner where you can collect travel information. Now it’s time to head to the room. Today’s room was on the 8th floor, a high-rise floor. There seems to be a table tennis court. It is on a hill, so the view is great (^^). Over there is Shirahama Kinkakuji Temple. You can’t enter it now. Next to it is the exit light of Wakayama Airport. When I first saw it, I thought it was a bridge. Today’s room was right after getting off the elevator. Let’s go in. Double room room size 39 square meters capacity 2 people. The carpet is fluffy (^^). It looks good! . Although it seems to have deteriorated a little over time. It has a clean and bright atmosphere. The room is a little unusual in shape. It was shaped like a cake divided into eight equal parts. The carpet on the floor was luxurious. The design was stylish. The ceiling was also high . The room felt even larger. And the view from this room. Ocean view! All rooms at this hotel have an ocean view. The large glass surface allows a lot of light in. The natural light makes the room feel brighter. Let’s go out to the balcony. What a nice view (^^). If you’re staying in Shirahama, a hotel with a panoramic view of the ocean is the right choice (^^). Right in front of you is Hotel Kawakyu (^^). Is that a fish farming raft you can see there? The ocean around here is also very clear. Looking down, there was a garden and a pool. I’m looking forward to seeing the night view from here (^^). This is the passage to the large public bath we passed earlier. The view was better than I expected. And there were several paintings hanging in this room. It’s a nice accent for the room (^^). Next to that is a writing desk. There is a large mirror here, so it can be used as a dressing table. The chair is sturdy. There are various things provided on the desk. There is a phone, a memo set, a hotel guide, etc. There is a hair dryer here. The hair dryer is a Panasonic Ionity. And there is a desk lamp. It was a stylish desk lamp. In the desk drawer, there were hanten, yukata, and obi. Next to it was a spacious area with a sofa, table, and chairs. The sofa had a luxurious feel. It was very comfortable to sit on (^^). There was also a room light. When turned on, the lighting was full of atmosphere. There was also a window here, so you could enjoy the view while sitting on the sofa. Next to it was a TV with terrestrial digital broadcasting. I was able to watch BS broadcasting. The free WIFI speed was 32Mbps, which was a stress-free speed. There was also an air purifier installed. It was a Sharp air purifier with humidifier. About the bed. The bed size is 200 cm wide and 200 cm long. The bed is a wide king size. I think it is a comfortable size for two people. The pillow is reversible. There is a soft cotton side and a slightly harder pipe side. The duvet is thin and light. The mattress was cushioned. All the controls are here, including the light control and alarm. You can also control the air conditioning. The temperature is set to the same level in all rooms. There was no individual air conditioning. There was an insect killer and a light. The AC power outlet can be used if the insect killer is removed. There were also various charging cables and a phone. There was a razor, hairbrush, and toothbrush set. Face towels and bath towels were placed against the wall. The towel rack was here. As for the bathtub. It was designed to fit my body. It was a spacious size. I am 173 cm tall. It was big enough to stretch my legs out. There was a hand shower. Shampoos were also available. The toilet was a shower toilet with a cleaning function and was clean. The functions were like this. The weather was good that day, so I could see far into the distance. I’m looking forward to the night (^^). Where is this? Maybe a whale ? Surprisingly, there are no pandas. There was a pool at the very back. This is only open in the summer. It was a pretty large pool. It’s a pool that children would enjoy (^^). Now we are going to the large public bath. There are bath towels and face towels in the large public bath. It was convenient to go empty-handed. Well, I’m off. This is a natural hot spring with its own source. The spring quality is sodium bicarbonate spring. It is also called “beauty bath” because it makes your skin feel smoother. The photo is of the indoor bath. The bathtub was large and I was able to relax in it. This photo is of the open-air bath. The open -air bath was also large. Surrounded by nature. It was an open-air bath that made me feel like I was floating in the water. The open -air bath was 120 cm deep in the center. It had a water pressure and a thermal effect that enveloped my whole body. At night, it was surrounded by the light of the illuminations. It was fantastic and romantic. The bath area had a “high-temperature dry sauna.” In the cold bath, there was a “rain shower” that could instantly cool you from head to toe. There were also great facilities for “saunagoers.” It was equipped with a cold bath and a relaxation area. It was a nice bath. It was nice that there was a living lounge nearby (^^). If you wish, you can eat on the terrace. The restaurant is based on white, which is typical of a resort. It had a stylish atmosphere. Let’s start with this area! There is a noodle corner with udon and Wakayama ramen. There is chawanmushi and shumai. There are also side dishes. The appeal of this dinner buffet is the variety of dishes from the live kitchen. There are seasonal pizzas and spaghetti. Grilled chicken wings. And sirloin steak. Turban shells cooked in a pot. Tempura. And there is nigiri sushi made with fresh seafood right in front of you. There is also sashimi. Next, let’s look around here. This is the Western food zone. There are many menus with a resort feel. Kids’ corner! Local ingredients are used. Ki no Kuni Mikandori is used. There are rice dishes lined up here. Since this is Wakayama, there was a wide variety of pickled plums available. And mehari sushi! This place also has a resort feel (^^). There is also cut fruit. There are stylish resort-like dishes. Next to them were also stylish dishes. Food that women would enjoy. And then there was the salad corner. Crouffles. From here it’s dessert. There are many types of cakes (^^). And donuts! And finally drinks. First of all, sushi (^^). The portions are huge! And tempura too! Limited time special!!! There was seared bonito as a limited time special. Will it end when it’s gone? The live kitchen was the biggest I’ve ever seen. I got a lot of things! There were resort-like dishes, Spanish dishes, marinated red sea bream, Kumano specialty “Mehari sushi”, seared bonito, sushi, tempura. There were all kinds of sushi. And sashimi. On this day, there were two types, tuna and sea bream. Nagisa beer 850 yen. Local beer! This is the alcohol menu. There was also plum wine. I tried Nagisa beer on the factory tour. It’s fruity, rich and delicious. I chose the standard pale ale. It has a deep richness and a subtle sweetness and bitterness (^^). I’m not sure what to eat first. The seared bonito is incredibly thick. It’s delicious! It’s very fresh and has no odor at all. The sashimi is “super plump and delicious.” The tempura is freshly fried in the live kitchen. The texture was good. It goes well with beer. The sushi has a large topping. The rice looks quite small. Because the rice is small, you can eat as many as you want (^^). This is “Mehari Sushi”, a local dish of Wakayama Prefecture. The salted takana is delicious (^^). The turban shells were big when I took them out. The crunchy texture is irresistible (^^). The more you chew it, the sweeter it becomes. I got a second serving! . I also got a steak that I forgot to get! . Mikandori beauty hotpot. Sirloin from Austria. Grilled chicken wings of “ume chicken” from Wakayama Prefecture. I also got orange juice and corn soup. The steak was delicious and you could feel the original flavor of the meat. What is Mikandori? It is a chicken raised in the mountain ranges of Wakayama, fed with feed made from a blend of dried mandarin peels harvested in Wakayama. When I tried it, the meat was soft. This is “Ume-dori” (plum chicken). In the process of making “Kishu Nanko-ume” (pickled plums), these chickens are born by feeding them with a specially extracted active ingredient called “Kishu Ume Sodate.” The meat was light, probably because it was made from chicken wings. The lights were on. It’s almost night. I wonder if they’ll open up that place when the number of customers increases. I got dessert. Various bite-sized cakes. Milk salt ice cream, and pudding. The dessert lineup was sure to please women. I finished with a hot coffee. There were so many dishes that were typical of a resort that I had a hard time deciding which one to choose (^^). Above all, the fresh ingredients were great! The courtyard was also beautifully lit up. I returned to my room. Oh. Hotel Kawakyu was also lit up. It looked like an old castle floating on the sea. And looking down, I could see the hotel’s illuminations. They’re called Illuminous Ocean. The illuminations are held all year round. The pool was also lit up. From the balcony. The illuminations were a huge traffic jam (^^). The indoor pool has also started its night pool. Let’s go to the garden to get a closer look. The illuminations are on until 11:00pm. Wow. A fantasy-filled production. A dynamic and fantastic space of light! There are lions and giraffes. This area is a nature and animal area. There are zebras too! This is an area that children will love. A tunnel of light! It makes you feel like a child again. A fountain? And there was a whale. What you can see now is the “Sun and Whale” object. It’s a pretty huge object. The pool zone is in sight. The resort-like production is really great. Palm trees! This is a tropical area marked by large palm trees and a rainbow. There’s a “toucan”. The light reflected on the water is fantastic, and it feels like you’re in another world. The silence of the night and the flickering light are really romantic. Hearts! This place has also been certified as a “Lover’s Sanctuary.” Yumi Katsura launched the “Lover’s Sanctuary Project” in 2006. Romantic sightseeing spots suitable for proposals are selected as “Lover’s Sanctuaries.” The illuminations that let you feel like you’re at a resort were really good. I got a glimpse of the quality of the hotel that won first place in the Wakayama category of Jalan’s Best Places to Stay Awards. Let’s go see the indoor pool as well. I wonder how much it costs to power it. Wow. It’s lit up! It’s a complete change from the daytime pool. It’s become a gorgeous night pool (^^). I wish I had a swimsuit so I could have gone in the jacuzzi. I’ll go to the large public bath on the way. The water was nice. To the lounge. I used this lounge a lot during my stay. This Unshu mandarin orange with apple vinegar was so delicious (^^). Now I’ll go back to my room. The carpet underneath was soft and luxurious. The hotel’s lighting is nice, too. The Hotel Kawakyu reflected on the water was also fantastic. I’m going to sleep now. Good morning. It was a refreshing morning. I was able to see the sunrise (^^). I’m going to breakfast now. The breakfast hall opens at 7:00. I made a reservation for breakfast from 7:00. I was the second one to arrive this time. I’d like to sit by the window this time too, but what do you think? It’s a buffet in the morning, so let’s take a look at the various options. There’s hot tofu. Vegetable soup. Side dishes are lined up around here. This line is for rice. There were various pickled plums lined up in the morning as well. The live kitchen is fully open in the morning as well. I’m looking forward to it! . This area is Western food. There are also standard menu items. Corn flakes. And the salad corner. Let’s take a look at the live kitchen. There’s a panda! . And there’s an omelet corner. There’s also French toast. Onigiri! . There’s dashi-maki tamago. This is the dessert corner. There’s also a bread corner. Finally, there’s the drink corner. They also have hot roasted green tea and hot coffee. There’s a long line. The onigiri corner is very popular. You can choose the fillings inside. We had dashi-maki (a type of dashi roll), filleted horse mackerel, flat-headed tempura, dried swordfish with mirin, and salted salmon. We also had an omelette made for us. We brought a variety of things! I mainly got food from the live kitchen. Unfortunately, my seat this time was not by the window… Omelette, pickles , flat-headed tempura, salted salmon, horse mackerel fillet, dashi-maki egg, rice balls, pickled plums, and miso soup. First of all, the pickled plums. Delicious! I’ve never really liked pickled plums before, but they were so delicious that they changed my view of them. They were mild, not too sour, and had a sweet taste. I had no idea pickled plums could be this good. All the food freshly made at the live kitchen was delicious. The freshly made rice balls were especially good. They were just the right amount of pressure. The buffet menu had a lot of standard items. It was something that everyone would like. I got desserts and other things. Red fruit jelly, panna cotta. Croissants, rustic bread. French toast, pancakes. Panda-shaped. I wanted to eat pickled plums, so I also got rice. The desserts were all popular menu items, so I was very satisfied. I ended with coffee. The live kitchen was well-equipped and the breakfast was very satisfying (^^). I returned to my room. I was reluctant to leave, but I checked out. Before checking out, I stopped by the shop. The umeboshi plums were so delicious. I bought some as a souvenir. I think this one. It went great with white rice (^^). Kishu Nankou plums, 650 yen. Check out. I was taken to Shirahama Station by shuttle bus. What did you think? “A resort hotel where you can relax in the hot springs and enjoy delicious food.” This hotel perfectly describes the phrase. When I made the reservation, I used Jalan. It won the Best Selling Hotel Award and the Best Place to Stay Award. I didn’t know it had won first place in Wakayama Prefecture. After staying there, I thought, “I see.” I think this is a highly satisfying accommodation, especially for families and couples. With an ocean view. The live kitchen is well-equipped for meals. The open-air bath is large. There is a free lounge after the bath. The illuminations were also beautiful and I was very satisfied. I would like to come again in the summer season (^^).
