This time I’m taking a solo ferry trip. Please enjoy a world that feels somehow nostalgic. Today I’ll board the Orange Ferry, located right next to the Osaka Expo venue, and head for Ehime Prefecture. First up: check-in procedures. I think I’ll choose the Japanese-style breakfast this time (extra charge). 20:00 — boarding begins. The ferry departs two hours later at 22:00. Here’s today’s sailing route. The ship I’m boarding is called “Orange Osaka.” I’m excited to see what kind of sea journey it will be. The entrance atrium is open all the way up—just like a cruise ship. The shared lounge area has a variety of seats where you can relax freely. Cabins are located on Decks 4 and 5. My room is 477 on Deck 4. Hmm… where is it? Found it! All rooms on Orange Ferry are private cabins. It’s the first ferry in Japan to make every cabin fully private. Oh—just like a spotless business hotel. There are 49 deluxe single cabins, each 8.9 m² in size. A TV is mounted on the wall facing the bed. When I turned it on, a promo video for the Osaka Expo was playing. Bathrooms and toilets are shared facilities for guests. But each room has its own sink—super convenient. There’s also a closet. Looks like a suitcase or backpack would fit inside. The slippers match Orange Osaka’s blue theme color. I was surprised to see the life-jacket instruction sign actually lights up! Great safety measures so you can evacuate calmly in an emergency. Still some time before departure—let’s explore the ship. On Deck 5 there’s a huge painting. Since the Osaka Aquarium is nearby, maybe it’s an ocean-inspired design. Orange Ferry offers four room types in total. Right now there’s a special Osaka Expo access plan on sale. 21:00—time to step out onto the observation deck. Ah! I can see the Expo drones! Wow—they’re surprisingly clear. That bicycle-wheel logo stands out even from far away. I also spotted the Red Cliff logo—the company behind the drone show. One hour to departure. Better grab dinner first. It’s a weekday, yet the ferry is almost fully booked. Thanks to the Expo, the ferry industry seems livelier than usual. Maybe that’s why tonight’s menu has more choices than normal. Wow—that beef looks amazing! I want to eat everything… Here’s the regular menu. And once again I went for the “Tai-Meshi” (sea-bream rice). *laughs* Maybe I should’ve tried something new, but I just couldn’t resist. For the record, Tai-Meshi is Orange Ferry’s No. 1 best-seller. It’s basically the most luxurious egg-over-rice in Japan! The bream is “Tai-ichirō-kun,” a premium brand fish from Uwajima. Look at that sheen! Watching this back makes me crave it again… Absolutely delicious. The soup is fantastic too—maybe the broth’s from bream bones? Dessert is tiramisu. Not too sweet—tastes authentic. Big portion and tasty! Suddenly I notice—only ten minutes left till departure! 22:00 sharp. We slip away from the pier in silence. An eight-hour voyage begins. All right—off we go! Right after departure, you can already see the Expo grounds. I wonder if everyone’s gone home by now. Views you normally never see are easy to enjoy from a ferry. Which ferry is that…? Here comes the Akashi-Kaikyō Bridge. Experiences like this are unique to sea travel. For some reason, this moment always makes me nervous. Whoa—so close! This sense of presence is unbeatable. Shikoku Orange Ferry operates two passenger ships—“Orange Ehime” and “Orange Osaka”— plus the mainly-freight “Orange Hope,” making three in total. There’s no onboard shop, but you can buy umbrellas and ferry goods at the front desk. I bought a stamp card and keychain. They even gave me a free clear file with the stamp card. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the voyage. YouTube streams without any issues. After a short break, time for a bath. On the bed were a toothbrush and hand towel. They have the cute Orange Ferry logo. Baths are open 24 hours during the voyage. Shower rooms are fully equipped. I borrowed a hairdryer from the front desk. There are dryers in the bath area too, but I’d rather dry my hair leisurely in my room. Nice—it’s a Panasonic dryer. After lights-out at 23:30, the ship becomes completely silent. Not sleepy yet, so I wandered into the game corner. The game corner is open 24 hours too. A truckload of crane games—so cute. If I were a kid, I could spend hours here. Something sounds noisy behind me… For grown-ups, there’s a whole line of pachinko and slot machines. The lyrics blasting out are hilarious. Beside the slots there’s a discreet capsule-toy (gacha) machine. An Orange Ferry-exclusive capsule series. A bit pricey, but let’s give it a go. Hope I win the original tote bag! …? Definitely not a tote bag… It’s a sticky-note pad. Tiny one. Whoa—it’s already 1 a.m.! Breakfast starts at 5:30, so I’d better get ready for bed. That beef still looks so good… Happy that the TV gets BS channels as well as regular ones. Oops—watched too long. Time to sleep for real! Good night, everyone. Good morning, everyone. Still sleepy… But the ocean is beautiful. There’s still time till breakfast, so I’ll relax on the upper deck to wake up. 5:30—breakfast time. The ferry arrives at 6 a.m.; I have to disembark quickly and catch the shuttle bus. You can buy Orange Ferry souvenirs in the restaurant area. I wanted the marmalade, but there’s no time—skipping it. Land is already in sight, but first—long-awaited breakfast. Looks delicious… Only 20 minutes till disembarkation. By the way, Orange Ferry lets you stay on board and rest until 8 a.m. after arrival. If you’re not in a hurry, post-arrival rest is highly recommended. But I’m rushing so I can film the docking scene. The salmon is wild red salmon flown in from Hokkaido; the rolled omelet is handmade and delicious. Ah—wish I could savor it more slowly! Did I make it in time? Caught the rope-throw just in time. Yes! This was the scene I wanted. And just like that, we’ve arrived in Ehime. Time to disembark already. Another wonderful voyage in the books. I’ll take the 6:20 bus to Imabari. いつもながら夜のフェリーターミナルや闇の中に浮かんでいる船はいい感じです。船も照明や内装がどことなくレトロな雰囲気が落ち着きますね。航行時間は短くても２時間前に乗船、入港後も船内休息ができるなど時間があればゆっくりできるところもいいですね。

神戸からも夜中航路のオレンジ、出てる様ですが、船着き場含めて相当アヴレッシブ仕様の様です。
今回のフェリーバイキングも、取り散らかされてなくて、アタリの様で良かったです。

This ferry looks good, with a restaurant and a public bath that is always open.
Private in Switzerland means that all cabins / rooms have a private toilet and usually also a private shower. So I guess, in Japan its different ?

私、先月、オレンジフェリーに乗って万博に行きました☺️ 万博アクセスプランを利用しました。フェリーターミナルの玄関前からバスが出発し、西ゲートまで行きます。朝イチなので、予約なしでイタリア館に行けました。朝から晩まで万博を堪能できました🥰 (強風の為、ドローンショーが中止だったのは残念でしたが)
オレンジフェリーは、朝降りたのと同じ船に夜乗る場合、荷物預かりのサービスがあります。DXシングルでは、清掃後、部屋まで運んでいただけます。
四国からフェリーでアクセスする万博、オススメです🧡

昨年の11月に愛媛県今治へ釣り旅行に往復利用しました。
オレンジえひめだったと思いますが、8時間と言う航海時間は勿体ないくらいの豪華なフェリーでした😄今秋は別府までさんふらわぁに乗り、釣りをしながら南下していき愛媛県八幡浜まで渡り、最終的にはオレンジフェリーで大阪へ帰ってくる1週間の釣り旅行を計画しています😀
乗船した事がありますが素晴らしかった。あと着岸しても２時間ぐらい休憩できるのは嬉しい。

Oh wow! The egg over rice looked fantastic. I wondered how it tasted with the bream. I grew up eating egg and soy u over rice, my mother was japanese, I lost her at a young age and then lost that part of my culture. You can't get good Japanese culture where I live in the USA.
These kind of videos are so relaxing. I don't think I will get to ride a ferry even if I get to visit Japan as there is so much to do and see and so little time but if I ever get the chance I would like to do so one day.

Great trip. Orange Ferry route considered to be medium distance ferry, so that's why they departing later than regular long distance ferry from Osaka, even Orange Hope departed at midnight to Niihama. It's great to mention, you can stay onboard until 8.00 in the morning when the ferry arrived at 6.00 in the morning. If you brave enough, you can try the Orange Hope, which departing very late from Kobe (As far as I remembered).
