The village of Sonogno, in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland, is a charming mountain settlement at the end of the Verzasca Valley. With an altitude of about 920 meters, the village is surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, dense forests and deep valleys, making it an idyllic place for nature lovers and hikers.

Sonogno is not the kind of destination where you come for noise or modern entertainment. You come here to stop. Breathe in the fresh air, taste polenta with mountain cheese in a shaded grotto, and get lost on paths that lead to the Froda waterfalls or to peaks that touch the clouds.

Locals still weave wool by hand in the Casa della Lana, and the village museum tells the story of the times when life was measured in harvests, flocks of sheep, and seasons.

Access is by postal bus from Locarno, on a road that alone could be a destination in itself — a succession of breathtaking landscapes.

If you want to imagine a place where you can put your phone aside and return to the naturalness of simple things, Sonogno is exactly that corner of Switzerland that no one looks for, but everyone who discovers it keeps in their hearts.

Sonogno is not a tourist destination, but a lesson in simplicity. A place where you learn again what silence means, what the sky looks like at night without light pollution, and how good the air can smell in the morning, when the sun barely touches the mountain peaks.
