続日本100名城 福井城 越前にそびえ立つ壮麗な城郭 福井県 Fukui Castle 2025
Today I’m heading to Fukui Castle in Fukui Prefecture. I arrived at Fukui Station. It’s about a 5-minute walk from the station to Fukui Castle. First, I head to Shibata Shrine, where Shibata Katsuie is enshrined. It is believed that Kitanosho Castle once stood on the site of Shibata Shrine. Kitanosho Castle is the predecessor of Fukui Castle. There is a statue of the Asai Three Sisters. Next to them is a statue of their mother, Oichi. What you can see below is said to be the remains of the stone wall of Kitanosho Castle. I visit the shrine. There is a statue of Shibata Katsuie on top of the stone wall of the former Fukui Castle. It has a nice rugged feel. Next, I go to Sakaenosha Shrine. Sakaenosha Shrine enshrines Tokugawa Ieyasu, Matsudaira Hideyasu, and Matsudaira Shungaku. In front of the parking lot of Sakaenosha Shrine, a stone from the stone wall of Fukui Castle was used. You can see the engraving. When I went to the neighboring Central Park, there was a statue of Okakura Tenshin, a samurai of the Fukui domain. The former Nishisannomaru and Nishininomaru of Fukui Castle have been developed as a central park. Here, the remains of the Nishininomaru moat have been reproduced. We went down to the bottom of the moat. It seems that Shakudani stone was used for the stone walls. Here, the moat of Nishisannomaru was developed. It seems that the moat used to be wider and deeper than it is now. We reached the inner moat. The bridge from Ninomaru to Honmaru is covered because the feudal lord used it. We crossed the Ororo Bridge. The Ororo Bridge was restored in 2008. We entered Honmaru through Yamazatoguchi Gomon. It is now a square-shaped gate. We took a look inside Yamazatoguchi Gomon. We went up to the castle tower base . This is Fukunoi, which is said to be the origin of the place name Fukui. It was redeveloped in 2017. We went up to the site of the castle tower. It seems that a watchtower-type four-story five-story castle tower was built here. We can see that the castle tower base on the opposite side is significantly distorted. The warping of the castle tower base is thought to be the result of the Fukui earthquake of 1948. There is a theory that the layout of the Honmaru and Ninomaru of Fukui Castle was done by Tokugawa Ieyasu. Pass behind the prefectural office and head towards Kita Myobu Gomon. You can see the Kon Yagura base on the right. You have reached the south side of the castle. There is a slope so try going up it. You can see Kawara Gomon. There is a statue of Yuki Hideyasu, the first lord of the Fukui domain. Yuki Hideyasu, the second son of Tokugawa Ieyasu, entered Echizen after the Battle of Sekigahara. It seems that he was allowed to use the Matsudaira surname in 1604. We have reached Kawara Gomon. This is the main gate of the Honmaru. Walk east along the water moat. You can see the remains of the Tatsumi Yagura ahead. Thank you for watching.
