In this video, we will honestly review the pros and cons of “Grand Mercure Awajishima Resort & Spa.” We will give you our honest thoughts about the good points and things that were not so great. Hello, this is Kokeshi Travel 🪆 This is part 2 of our Awajishima series, continuing from the previous video. In the last video, we introduced our top 5 recommended spots in Awajishima. (If you haven’t seen it yet, check the link in the description 🙆‍♀️) This time, we will introduce “Grand Mercure Awajishima Resort & Spa” as our recommended hotel. Overall, it’s a hotel with high satisfaction, but… We travel over 100 days a year, and after actually staying here, we’ll be sharing both the good points and the not-so-good points without holding back, so please watch until the end 🙆‍♀️ Now, let’s get straight to the conclusion! We will explain everything in detail later, but first, here are four good points! The first one is the lounge service where you can enjoy beer and champagne for free. They also offer simple snacks, making it a perfect place to pass the time! The second point is the clean and well-kept guest rooms! Although it’s an older hotel, it was renovated in April 2024, and it’s really nice and clean! The third point is the large public bath and the hot spring lounge with post-bath drinks! The hot spring lounge is stocked with vinegar drinks and other options, making it a super comfortable space ♨️ The fourth point is the high quality of the buffet for both dinner and breakfast. It’s rare to find a hotel that offers such high-quality food in a buffet. Next, we’ll go into detail, but here are two things that weren’t so great! The first is the long wait times in line for the buffet, especially at dinner. Some popular dishes had lines that lasted over 10 minutes… which was quite frustrating. Haha. The second is the crowding at the front desk, which made check-in take a long time. This might be because the hotel had just reopened after its rebranding, so it might be unavoidable. Let’s start with good point number 1: the “complimentary lounge service.” Here’s what the atmosphere in the lounge looks like. There are a few seats, but most of the space is for standing while you drink. They have soft drinks, of course, Of course, there are soft drinks, as well as wine, sparkling wine, and draft beer, all available for free (It’s awesome!!) Snacks and appetizers are also available, so it’s the perfect space to kill some time. Next, let’s talk about the second great point: “The clean and fresh guest rooms.” This hotel was rebranded and reopened in April 2024. Along with the rebranding, all the guest rooms were renovated and refreshed. You don’t feel any of the hotel’s age; it’s been modernized and looks great. The washbasins and other plumbing areas have also been completely renewed. Even though there’s a large public bath, having a private bath in the room is a nice feature too.🛀 The hairdryer is so stylish that it’s actually slim. LOL You’ll also get one bottle of water per person at check-in.🙆‍♀️ The toilet is clean as well, and of course, it has a bidet! And the highlight is the view from the room! You get a panoramic view of the pool and the Seto Inland Sea, which must be one of the best views in Kansai. The third great point is “The amazing public bath & hot spring lounge.” We can’t film the public bath, so we’ve included photos from the official website. The open-air bath is spacious, and the atmosphere is outstanding. The sauna is also large, and the temperature is nice and high—it was perfect (though I wish the cold bath was a bit cooler…). And here, you’ll find a rare feature—a “hot spring lounge.” It’s a comfortable space where you can relax after your bath. They even provide vinegar drinks, so you can sit back and chill while sipping on one. Before I knew it, I had spent about an hour just lounging there. The fourth great point is “The high quality of the buffet dishes.” Personally, I’m not usually a big fan of buffets, but the buffet here is on par with the quality of a course meal at a restaurant. From fresh sashimi to dishes that make the most of Awajishima onions, the variety of food was more than satisfying. There are noodle dishes you can make yourself, and dishes using Awajishima chicken, Dishes featuring Awaji chicken and Awaji beef were also offered, which are high-quality ingredients rarely seen in buffets. It’s rare to find buffet dishes that have the quality of course meals, even in Japan. The desserts were also abundant and uncompromised in quality. The overall content of the food was highly satisfying. By the way, the breakfast buffet was also very high in quality. Especially the freshly made pancakes were absolutely delicious. Be sure to try them when you visit. On the other hand, the first downside is the buffet being too crowded. As I mentioned earlier, the quality of the food is impeccable, but it’s just too crowded. (laughs) I wanted to try the Awaji beef shabu-shabu, but the line was too long, so I gave up… Here’s us toasting after getting exhausted from waiting in line for food. (laughs) Kokeshi is half-irritated from the wait. (laughs) But for some reason, there was no line at the beer server, which was our saving grace as drinkers. (laughs) This was on a Monday, but if it’s this crowded on a Monday, I can’t imagine how packed it must get on Saturdays… It was already this crowded just five minutes after the buffet started. However, it’s impressive how everyone lined up neatly to get their food, which speaks to the good manners of the Japanese. Even after an hour from the buffet’s start, the congestion around the food stations didn’t ease at all. Honestly, I think they could improve the layout of the food stations to reduce waiting times. I hope they consider making improvements in the future. The second downside is the crowding at check-in. Check-in starts at 3:00 PM, and we arrived at 3:30, yet it was still so crowded. Since it’s just recently reopened after rebranding, the wait was understandable, but we had to line up for about 15 minutes. We hope they can improve the operation, perhaps by increasing the staff in the future. So, what did you think of the Grand Mercure Awaji Island review? 1.
