佐木島向田地区にある『塔の峰』は、向田港から徒歩圏内ある小高い山で、元々みかん畑だでしたが、平成4年(1995年)から数年に渡り自然を守る地域の運動として桜の植樹が行われ、その取り組みは『全国育樹活動コンクール』で林野庁長官賞を授与されました。その後も植樹は続けられ、現在では1200本以上の桜の木が一面を覆っています。4月初旬には小高い『塔の峰』からは桜と海の絶景が楽しめ、『塔の峰』を１周する道には桜色のトンネルができるため、散歩やサイクリングなども楽しめる人気の花見スポットとなっています。

Located in the Mukota district of Sagishima, Mihara City, Tonomine is a small hill within walking distance of Mukota Port. It was originally an orange orchard, but over the years since 1995, cherry trees have been planted as part of a local effort to protect nature, and this initiative was awarded the Forestry Agency Director-General’s Award at the National Tree-Planting Activity Contest. Planting has continued since then, and the area is now covered with over 1,200 cherry trees. In early April, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the cherry blossoms and sea from the small hill Tonomine, and the road that circles Tonomine creates a pink tunnel, making it a popular cherry blossom viewing spot where you can also enjoy walking or cycling.
