【最新!瀬戸内国際芸術祭2025】直島の最強モデルコース巡ってきた! | 春会期②

Tour of contemporary art around the worldWe are traveling around contemporary art around the worldThis time, the Setouchi Triennale is going to the spring stationGood morningIt ‘s the second day of the Setouchi GameToday is also starting from Takamatsu StationToday is the last day of the unlimited ferry ticketIt’s the right way to our destination, NaoshimaIf you’re lucky, you can also ride the Koji from Naoshima to UenoIt ‘s pretty close to Naoshima, so I think I’ll go to Ueno todayThe ferry to Naoshima leaves at 8:12AhNaoshima, which can be said to be the face of the Setouchi Triennale10 years agoEven on weekdays, it’s really crowdedToday is Saturday, so I’m going to the ferryAs expected , the indoor seats were full and I couldn’t sit, so I came to the deckHowever, if the weather is good, the train is definitely recommendedYou can see the Setouchi KaiToday’s weather is sunny and the temperature is about 23°, so it feels a bit cold in the shadeIt’s about 50 km from Takamatsu We arrived at Bunchomiya. We could see the red pumpkin of Naoshima right away. We will now take a bus to the Benesse Art Site, but we will have to wait about 10 minutes, so we will take a look at the art at the port. This welcome board is also one of the artworks, and it has illustrations of the characteristics of Naoshima. We are heading towards the red pumpkin of Kusui-san that we saw from the boat earlier. This is a very popular spot, so it is always crowded and it is difficult to take photos, but Perry’s arrival was quite empty. You can go inside this red pumpkin, and the view from there is also very beautiful, so I took some photos with my film camera today . From Miyanoura, we took a bus to the area around Benesse House. The fare was 300 yen. It seems that transportation IC cards cannot be used, so payment will be made by tapping your cash credit card. We arrived. There is a D opposite the bus stop. We went to see the Woofan Museum. The Woofan Museum is built by Tao Ando and displays paintings and sculptures by D Woofer. Tao Ando’s architecture is highlighted by the beauty of the exposed concrete and the light and shadow created by natural light . The numerous works from the 1970s to the present that are placed in this building give a sense of calm and dynamism in the space with nature. Looking at them up close, you will be captivated by their size and fusion with nature. On the other side of the building, you can see the works and the Setouchi Kai. If you stand directly under this large arch, you can take a great photo with the Setouchi Kai in the background. Look at this crystal clear Setouchi Kai. On a clear day like today, you can see a beautiful view all the way to Takamatsu. While walking along the beach, I found some kind of white square object on the cliff. I wonder what it is. Next, about 600m from the Liufan Museum. We head to the Penesse House Museum. This path, through the forest and surrounded by the sound of the waves, is a time that is unique to Naoshima. We reach the museum at the top of this hill. The museum is based on the concept of natural architecture and art, and is located on a hill overlooking the Setouchi Kai. We enter right away, and you can also enter for free if you have a passport. The museum was designed by Ando. The nature that shines into the concrete walls changes the expression of the works over time, and you can feel the heart and space of the museum. At the Benesse House Museum, works by artists from Japan and abroad are exhibited in harmony with the landscape and architecture. There are also site-specific works created by artists for the location. My favorite piece this time is this weed-like piece that everyone seems to pass right by. It’s actually fake and made of wood. When I went outside, I saw a piece that was on display on the beach at the Liu Fan Museum. The photo seems to be observing the deterioration of the material in an outdoor environment. There are other pieces up the slope after leaving the Benes House Museum, so I’ll walk there. Anyway, it was perfect weather. I was able to see the Setouchi Kai many times while touring the art. This building is by Sugimoto Hishito’s Umi-ro. I wanted to go see it, but it was booked, so I gave up this time. Outside the gallery, there were also some colorful and cute works lined up. Beyond these colorful works was the main objective. It was Kusa Mayu’s yellow pumpkin. Do you remember this work? In fact, this work was washed out to sea by Typhoon No. 9 on the 9th and damaged. The yellow pumpkin disappeared from Naoshima for about a year, but was reinstated in October 2022 and returned here again. I was not able to see it at the last art festival, so I was very happy to be able to see the work I had been longing for. I arrived at the Honmura district. In the Honmura district, there is a project called the Art House Project, where artists reclaim old houses that have become autumn houses and turn the space itself into a work of art. There is a project that started in 1998 and has seven houses open to the public. Generally, no reservation is required for intervention, but some facilities require reservations or a licence. I will only briefly introduce the works of the House Project because I was not allowed to film videos. The collage-like space created by dentist Shinro Otake, who boldly transformed a building that was once a dentist’s office, gives a sense of freedom and energy in the midst of chaos. Another work is by Osamu Miyajima. Water and counting numbers spread throughout the building, and the work reminds us that the way we absorb time is different for each person. I thoroughly enjoyed the House Project for two hours. Works that did not require reservations5 I’ve been to all of them, and I’m getting thirsty, so I’m heading to a coffee shop in the Honmura district. I’ve arrived. Right in front of the artwork called Water in Honmura, there are sweets and coffee. The menu looks like this. The coffee was an espresso-based drink made with an espresso machine. They also sold light meals such as scones and banana bread. It seems that the coffee is also sold at its own price. It was hot, so I ordered an iced Americano. It was a strong coffee and it was delicious. It was a feast. As I was walking with a cup of coffee in hand, I saw some kind of artwork. This is the Naoshima Port Lake Terminal, and it seems to be a waiting room for the port. This building is made up of 13 4m spheres stacked on top of each other, and soft light shines in when you go inside . It seems that it will be lit up at night, so I’m curious about the night view. The bus came just in time, so I decided to go back to Miyanoura Port. The fare was 300 yen. It took about 10 minutes to get to Miyanoura Port. We have arrived. Next, we will go to see an artwork that can be reached on foot from Miyanoura Port. This is the Naoshima Pavilion, a work located very close to the port. The concept of this work is the 28th island of Naoshima Town, which is made up of 27 islands. This shape is made up of about 250 triangles. This seemingly strange shape is inspired by the floating island phenomenon, where distant islands and ships appear to float. When you actually go inside, you will feel like you are floating a little off the ground . The next work is located a little further from Miyanoura Port towards the residential area. We have arrived at Love Bushu, an art facility designed by Ota Shingo where you can actually take a bath. This facility requires a bed. This time, we were not able to see the interior, but even just looking at the exterior walls, Otake Shingo’s worldview is fully reflected. There are also many New York goods for sale here, which were very cute. I bought a facel as a souvenir for myself. We are heading to the last work in the Miyanoura area. It’s about a 5-minute walk from Love Yu. We’ve arrived at the Setouchi Gallery. It’s an interactive gallery that was renovated from a former pachinko parlor, and serves as a bridge between the local area and visitors. Here, Shimomichi Motoyuki is holding a project to exhibit exhibits on the theme of the history, culture, and customs of the region. Each exhibit has a different theme, and research is expressed together with local residents and external collaborators. We’ve returned to the Miyanoura school. Now we’re taking a ferry to Okayama Prefecture. We’re taking the 4:02 ferry. We ‘ve set sail, and since it’s not the last ferry from Naoshima, it’s pretty empty. By the way, this time too, it’s a route that’s eligible for unlimited travel. Naoshima and Umino Port are quite accessible, and it takes about 20 minutes to get there , so before you know it, Umino is in sight. We’ve arrived. I’ll look at the art in about an hour . I can’t get back to Takamatsu unless I can take the 5:30 express line. I have to hurry. First, I’ll go see the artwork at the station, about a 5-minute walk from Umino Port. After about 5 minutes of walking, I found the first artwork. This artwork was created by welding iron to an abandoned bicycle, transforming it into an artwork. It seems that it can be rented only by teenagers per day. Umino Station itself is a work of art. The black lines written on the white surface feel a bit like an illusion. There is also an artwork at Jiura, a 5-minute walk from the station. This is a new work from this season by Madomaf. It is a sound installation that makes use of the site that was once a battlefield . When you enter, you will feel the weight of the battle. Mist drifts periodically in the tiled bathroom, and light pours in through the window, creating a fantastic atmosphere. This is a work that deeply moves visitors in a space where the past, present, and individuals work together. We’ve returned to the port area. This work is also a new work. You can see a work in the background. This is the home of Boo Jihyeon’s work. It expresses the feeling of fishing from one place to another through the movement of light, space, and time. This work seems to be lit up at night, so I’d like to see that someday too. It might be amazing, but I’ll continue towards the coast . The next work is also a new work, and it’s the one I was most interested in in this area. It’s Uno, a work by Kanauchi . As you can see, this work creates the illusion that various things are jumping out of the space called Setouchi Kai. Depending on the viewing angle and distance, the work looks completely different. It was an interesting work that gave me a different impression. The last work of the day in the Nae area is Uno Chi Nu. It is a large piece of art made using rubbish collected in the area. I felt a bit complicated about the trash being used as art. I returned to Takamatsu via Kojima. Since Tsuchijima is a high-speed line from this port, I bought a ticket for 1,260 yen . I used an unlimited ferry ticket for these three days from the island to Takamatsu. I arrived at the island in about an hour on the high-speed line. Since there is still some time before the ferry to Takamatsu, I would like to take a look at some of the works near the port. It is a gift from the sun that greets you first at the port. This work is in the shape of an olive crown. Looking closer, you can see messages to the sea sent by about 100 elementary school students on the island . As I was reading the messages, the ferry to Takamatsu had arrived. About 1 hour from here, I’ll take my time to return to Takamatsu. I arrived and it’s already pitch black. I’m very satisfied with today, having been able to explore Naoshima and Uminato. I’ll take it easy at the hotel today in preparation for tomorrow. Good night. Thank you for watching. The next Setouchi Triennale will be limited to spring. A wonderful exhibition that makes use of closed-line railways. I’ll go to Seijima and śćjima. 2.
