【御朱印ベスト】神社のセルフサービスの御朱印
This issue of Goshuin Tabi Masaharu features self-made goshuin stamps. I sometimes come across unmanned shrines where you can prepare your own goshuin stamps. To be honest, I’m shy, so I’m happy about this. So, I’ve compiled a list of self-made goshuin stamps from shrines I’ve come across in the past three years. Kashihara Shrine [Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture] When you hear “Kashihara Shrine,” you probably think of Nara Prefecture, but there is also one in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture. It’s near Nakaminato Station. From the precincts on the hill, you can see the Pacific Ocean. It was founded during the Wadou era (708-715), and has a longer history than Kashihara Shrine in Nara. It is said that the main building was moved in 1672, but is the current building 350 years old? Anyway, the goshuin stamps were prepared by hand in front of the worship hall. I put the offering in the offering box right next to it. And this is the goshuin I received. Mamada Hachiman Shrine [Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture] “Second Torii”. Built in 1713, it is the oldest structure in the shrine. The deity worshipped is “Honda Wake no Mikoto”. Emperor Ojin. Hondawake no Mikoto’s mother is “Okinagatarashihime no Mikoto”. The lion-dog statues just after climbing the stone steps were donated in 1856. The “haiden” (front sanctuary) was rebuilt in 1851. “Yatsuryu Shrine”. On 5/5, the festival “Mamada no Jagamita” is held. To the right of the approach is “Benten Pond”. Inside it is “Itsukushima Shrine”. The goshuin was self-administered, but I was playing with the cat and forgot to take a photo… and on the day I received the “May Monthly Goshuin (Reiwa 7) Jagamita”. Check the shrine’s official website for the latest goshuin information. Before worshiping, we went to a popular curry restaurant near Mamada Station. We ordered a curry set. There are seven types of curry to choose from. For drinks, we ordered mango lassi! And we ordered chicken curry with a large naan. The naan is big but delicious, so we finished it in no time. Ikaho Shrine [Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture] The deities enshrined at “Ikaho Shrine” are “Oonamuchi no Mikoto” and “Sukunahikona no Mikoto”. We were halfway up the stone steps. On the left, there was a “chozuya” (purification fountain), so we stopped by. At the top of the stone steps in the hot spring town, there was a shrine. It was a weekday, but there were many people there, probably because of the event! The goshuin (stamp) was prepared for self-service in front of the worship hall. You can walk around the shrine, so you can get close to the “main hall” in the back. Therefore, you can also visit the back of the main hall from behind. And this is the goshuin we received that day. It seems that it is basically self-service in front of the worship hall on weekdays. After visiting Ikaho Shrine, we recommend stopping by Shogetsudo, located just below. It is said to be the birthplace of onsen manju. You can only buy them at the shop, which is located up the stone steps in Ikaho Onsen Town. They are very handmade. They do not use any preservatives. They are chewy, irregular in shape, and have a lovely rustic feel. My wife says that the onsen manju here is the tastiest and her favorite. Hijiri Shrine [Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture] Nearby, there is a place where the copper “Wado”, famous for the Wado Kaichin coins, was discovered, and the shrine was built to celebrate the discovery. The year was named after this , and it was named Wadou Gan-nen (708). The shrine building was moved from Imamiya Shrine in Chichibu City. It is said to have been built in 1709-1710. It was moved in 1964. To the right of the worship hall is a large Wadokaichin monument. Now, the goshuin stamps were prepared in front of the worship hall for self-service. And here is the goshuin I received. It is characterized by the Wadokaichin stamp on the bottom right. Kojiya Hachiman Shrine [Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture] This is a shrine I have always wanted to visit. My wish came true. When I stopped by the chozuya (water purification fountain), it was turned into a beautiful flower chozuya. The main building was recently rebuilt and is beautiful. To the right of the main building is Atago Shrine and Kotohira Shrine, which have a hollyhock crest! There is a marshland in front of the shrine, but the lord? welcomes you. Now, this month’s goshuin is a sample on top of the offering box! On this day, the goshuin stamp was prepared next to the offering box. I paid an offering in the offering box and received a goshuin stamp. For the latest goshuin information, check the shrine’s official Instagram! Tsubakinoumisui Shrine [Sosa City, Chiba Prefecture] I bowed in front of the torii gate and entered the shrine. The deity is “Yatsuha no Me no Mikoto”. She is the god of water. As I walked up the small stone steps at the end of the approach, I found the shrine building on my right. The grounds are very quiet. The shrine office seemed to be closed that day. On this day, there was a paper for a goshuin stamp prepared on the left side of the worship hall. There were several types of goshuin stamps available. I am grateful. On the left side of the approach is the precincts of the shrine, “Harumi Benten Shrine”. The deity’s virtue is to improve good fortune and wealth and prosper in business. And this is the “Boso Mikuni Goshuin Tour Goshuin Stamp” that I received that day. The latest goshuin stamp information is posted on the shrine’s official Instagram. I arrived before the 11:00 opening, but there were already people waiting in line! I was guided to the counter right after the opening and ordered char siu ramen. The service was fast. And the char siu was very filling. The noodles were thin. I was full. I think I can do my best in the afternoon too! Tomisato Katori Shrine [Tomisato City, Chiba Prefecture] 4.6km from the nearest Yachimata Station. It ‘s also far from the nearest bus stop. However, this shrine is gaining in popularity due to its wonderful goshuin. Since it is basically unmanned, you line up your amulets and fortune slips at the shrine building yourself. There are also several types of goshuin available. The offering is placed in the offering box next to the box. On the day, I received a goshuin for the monthly visit (Fumode). You can check the latest goshuin for the monthly visit on the shrine’s official website. The grounds are small, but there are benches to rest on. It was a very comfortable ground. I had lunch at a log cabin-style restaurant about 1km from the shrine. I had the popular baguette curry. There is a woodworking product exhibition and sales corner and a gallery. I was able to relax in the store, which smelled of wood. There are many days off, so check before you go out. Narita Toyosumi Kumano Shrine [Narita, Chiba Prefecture] Narita Toyosumi Kumano Shrine was founded in 923, the first year of the Encho era during the Heian period. The deity worshipped is Izanami-no-Mikoto, the goddess of creation of the country and the gods. She is said to be the god who created the Japanese archipelago. Narita Toyosumi Kumano Shrine is generally unmanned, and there are fortune slips and amulets in front of the worship hall! The shrine office nearby will write a goshuin depending on the day. However, being basically shy, I received a prepared written goshuin. I placed my first offering in the box next to it. There was also a goshuin explaining the mythology. I would like to deepen my studies soon. On the day, I received the “January 2024 One-Sided Goshuin: Kite”. Check the shrine’s official Instagram for the latest goshuin information and opening hours at the shrine office! Susaki Shrine [Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture] The deity of Susaki Shrine is Ame-no-Hirino-Mikoto. If you bow before the torii gate and go forward, you will see the Zuishinmon Gate and the Yakubareshizaka. At the bottom of the slope is the Zuishinmon Gate. A goshuin stamp was prepared here. The Yakubareshizaka is a steep stone staircase of 148 steps. It is said that you can get rid of bad luck by climbing and praying. I somehow managed to climb the 148 steps and arrived in front of the worship hall. The worship hall had a simple and rustic atmosphere. I returned to the Zuishinmon Gate. I paid the offering and received a goshuin stamp. And this is the goshuin stamp I received that day. The powerful ink characters gave me energy. Setagaya Hachiman Shrine [Setagaya Ward, Tokyo] The founding of Setagaya Hachiman Shrine is unknown, but it dates back to the Heian period. The warlord Minamoto no Yoshiie visited Setagaya on his way back from the battlefield. It is said that due to this connection, a branch of the Usa Hachiman Shrine was enshrined in Setagaya. The current shrine building was rebuilt in 1964. The three deities enshrined are Emperor Ojin, Emperor Chuai, and Empress Jingu. There is a sumo ring on the grounds, and a votive sumo match is held during the autumn festival. Just to the right at the bottom of the stone steps is Itsukushima Shrine. The deity is Ichikishimahime. The goshuin stamps are self-service in front of the shrine office. This is the goshuin stamp I received that day. I stopped in for lunch before worshiping. The restaurant is located behind the green train at Miyanosaka Station! It has a casual atmosphere, and I was able to eat while watching the trains. As it is a pizza restaurant, they have a wide variety of pizzas, but the pasta also looks delicious. There is also a special menu, so I was undecided. In the end, I decided to go for pasta…it was very delicious. I’ll definitely try pizza next time! Hakusan Shrine [Hachioji City, Tokyo] Hakusan Shrine is the head shrine of Hakusan Hime Shrine in Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Hakusan Shrine is also written as “Hakosan”, and is said to cure dental diseases. The main shrine is about 10 minutes up the approach from the back of the worship hall. You will climb through a quiet forest. If you are confident in your physical strength, please visit the shrine. The goshuin was prepared for self-service in front of the office to the right of the main shrine. Here is the goshuin I received that day. The design changes every month. After visiting Hakusan Shrine, I visited this soba restaurant with an inconspicuous sign. It looks like an ordinary house. You won’t find it unless you know about it. It was a little chilly that day, so I ordered hot soba. I had it with tempura. It warmed me up very much. Thank you for the meal. Hirose Shrine [Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture] It began as a shrine to Hirose Benzaiten during the Tensho era (1573-1592). The deities enshrined are Ichinoshimahime, Takirihime, and Takitsuhime. As you walk along the approach to the shrine, you will encounter several pairs of lion-dog statues. The shrine was hit by the atomic bomb in 1945. You can see the scars from that time on the lion-dog statues. It was rebuilt in 1947. The grounds were a little narrow at the time. The worship hall was built a little later, in 1949. Now, the goshuin was prepared for self-service in front of the shrine office on the right side of the approach. I received it after placing my offering in the offering box. And here is the goshuin I received.
