Imagine a nationwide motor bike to celebrate New Year. That is exactly how they do it here in Cambodia. From bamboo train rides to sunrise anchor, we thought Cambodia was done with the surprises, but Sran, the country’s wildest celebration, had other plans. It’s hot, wild, and if you step outside, you’re going to get wet. It’s our last couple of nights here in Samri, and just by chance, we’ve ended up being here for Kam New Year, which is meant to be amazing. It’s a 3-day long water fight with something about like the water washing the bad luck away of last year and then having a fresh start. So, let’s go get a fresh start. Question, what do we need water guns? Ooh. We soon found that Sran isn’t just a giant water fight. It’s deeply rooted in tradition. This megalong rope being carried through the street symbolizes unity and community strength. And the talcum powder that gets rubbed on your face, well, it’s not just for laughs. It’s a symbolic blessing, a gesture of goodwill and protection shared amongst friends and strangers alike. What we also learned on day one was to never go outside unarmed. Lightning just struck and the heavens opened. It’s nuts. I think rainy season’s here. Yeah. [Music] For day two, we came prepared. The entire city turned into one big playground, and we were loving it. Can’t believe you, baby. I can’t control. Set me free. I see you through the window. I can’t breathe. Come back to the hotel for a quick refresh and discovered we’ve got a hell of a vantage point here. Seeing all the locals load up in pickups, we thought the sidecar would be perfect. So, with Amy riding shotgun, we rolled in like a right pair of legends. It turns out the side cars was a very attractive [Music] target. Yeah. Heat. [Music] Body shink [Music] body is the most amazing and fun way to do New Year, but it’s also pretty beautiful. It’s really sweet. And what I really Thank you. Happy New Year. I do you. Happy New Year. What I really like about it is like everyone comes together. Everyone’s on the streets and just partying together. It’s not like it’s not like you go get drunk and go to a little party somewhere. It’s everyone’s enjoying it. Everyone’s just out having fun. You got like cars full of like families. Dads cross-legged with their guns. Like mom’s arm in the front, pissed in the middle filling up the guns. It’s epic. After the madness of Sran, we needed a breather. So we swapped in the water fights for a trip to a floating village. Except it wasn’t floating. Morning. Hey, Alexander. That’s it. Today we’re doing something we haven’t done before, which is to take a group trip. A tour? Yeah. I’m excited for it cuz it’s a tour across a lake. But the exciting bit is I’m going to see some crocodiles. That’s not the No, that’s the exciting bit for me. Will we see any crocodiles? Yeah, you can see something. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So, saying we’re going to see a lake might be a bit of an understatement. This is Tonless Sap, the largest lake in Southeast Asia. During rainy season, it reaches up to 16,000 square km. Obviously now it’s not rainy season. The water level rises to the floor of these houses. The locals get around by boat and uh everyone moves to the to the top floor and gets on with normal life. The families here all cook with open fire. So with the buildings all being made of wood and so close to each other and really have to trust your neighbor. I I think it’s guts. Just been informed it’s from the crocodile. It’s crocodile. It is crocodile. crash your guts or something. Crocodile oil and you use it on your skin for for blemishes, right? Sounds a bit like snake oil to me. Slippy break my bone. To give us a feeling of what it’s like to live here in the rainy season, our guide took us on his boat to a restaurant in a part of the lake that’s wet all year round. And although I did get to see a croc, it wasn’t exactly how I was [Music] expecting to just follow, but I’ll never find this anywhere. So, this is not just any market. This is the market where the produce from the farming on the floating village is sold. Like this stuff over here. Like this stuff over here. like this stuff here and this stuff here. Strange and weird and wonderful fruits and veg here that we’ve never seen before. It’s not a what? Long gone. It’s not. You still got it. Be long gone soon. Long gone. Yeah, it’s still there. Looks like a litechi. It does look like a ly. We’ve eaten these from flavored things from 7-Eleven. Tastes like melon. Feels like lchi. This one is a bitter melon. Yeah, bitter melon. Very bitter. Yeah, bitter. [Music] All these fish are caught from the fisherman at the floating village as well. A lot of them are kept alive for freshness. Some in water, some just trying to get a breath in the bacon sun, which is I was going to show you around this hotel room, but the we changed them so often. It’s just a bit hectic. Thank you. Just packing the bike ready for today’s trip, which when you think of rats, you probably think of disease, pests. Well, here in Cambodia, a rat can save your life. We’re going to find out [Music] how. Unfortunately, what we’re going to show you is closed, probably because of the new year. Basically, these rats uh are trained somehow to search out landmines. They search for landmines. Yeah. Cuz they’re too light to blow them up. So, they send in the rats with a bit of sun cream on their ears and their noses, lip out the landmines, and then they can send in the humans to go in there, dispose of them. I’m really actually quite gutted cuz you’re you can hold them and everything. They are some jolly big rats. Oh, maybe that’s just a little girl. No, they’re big. I just want to know how you train a rat to sniff out a mine. I’m guessing they sniff them. When I first heard about this place, I thought they just sent a load of rats across the field and let them blow up the mines, you know, but it’s much more humane and more clever than that. So now we just got a 5hour ride to our next hotel. Life is not a race. If someone show that the truth is feels like love. It feels all right and there’s no reason to stop. Thank you very much. Goodbye. Have a good day. Notice the tower was a bit flat. So, we stopped off. We We stopped off at uh what we thought it was a garage, but it turns out I think it’s somebody’s house. the and also I thought the tire just needed pumping up but it’s got happy new year. Thank you. Thank you. It’s good. Turns out I got a proper hole in the tire. Oh, they’re just fixing it. Just sorting it right out. Bad. Why? Yeah. Why does it sort it right out? Yeah, my face is going numb. What is this? What’ I tell you, Derek? It’s done. It’s fixed. Amazing. Thank you. Happy New Year. Yeah. 3 seconds. Oh, legend. Thank you, guys. We thought the war might be over, but people are still going. So, so are we. [Music] [Music] The Kamar New Year was something we never saw coming. Those three days of full-blown street water fights were wild, messy, and unexpectedly beautiful. It’s the kind of chaos you can’t help but fall for. That kind of freedom is what we love most about Cambodia. [Music] Yeah. Hello. Hello. Hello. Okay. Byebye. Byebye. Byebye. We came for the adventure, but it’s the people and their energy that left the biggest splash. Jesus Christ. [Music] When it rains a lot, the water level rises to the floor of these houses. Look at them. Mention that we’re sweating our tits off, but everyone’s wearing jumpers. Oh, you’re going to cry. Oh, come here. Right, this is where the arguments start. Now, if you missed the last episode and you want to know what it’s like to road trip across Cambodia in a side car, then check it out here. [Music]

We celebrated 2025 Songkran (Khmer New Year) in Siem Reap, Cambodia and it was pure madness. A 3-day long nationwide water fight, street chaos and riding through it all on our motorbike and sidecar.

We also visited the Tonlé Sap floating village, explored local neighbourhoods, and soaked up the wild energy of Cambodia’s biggest celebration.

If you’re planning to visit Southeast Asia in April, don’t miss Siem Reap during Sangkran – it’s unforgettable!
