【ホテル探訪】洗練されたデザイン×隠れ家温泉旅館「SOKI ATAMI」全客室温泉付きの癒しの時間【熱海|静岡】
Hello everyone, this is Okada from Architecture Vacation This time, I am visiting “SOKI ATAMI” in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Atami has been loved as a hot spring resort since the Edo period, and is a tourist destination with a rich natural environment where the sea and mountains meet. In recent years, the number of renovated facilities and new tourist spots has increased, and the unique atmosphere where retro and modern coexist has become popular, and it is one of Japan’s leading hot spring resorts, ranked number one in the domestic popular hot spring resort rankings. “SOKI ATAMI” that I will visit this time is characterized by a spatial design that makes use of natural materials and cuisine that incorporates local ingredients, with the theme of an inn where you can feel the seasons, taste the land, enjoy the ingredients , and regain your true self, and spend time in nature. So, what kind of wonderful design trip awaits us? Let’s go together. “SOKI ATAMI” is located about 10 minutes by car from Atami Station, and is quietly located in the inner sanctum of Atami, away from the hot spring town filled with people. The name “SOKI” means “simple” and “vessel,” and it is an inn that accepts time to spend as it is without decoration. This is the idea behind it. The premises include a reception building, guest room building, and restaurant building, and the hotel is a hideaway hot spring inn with a relaxing atmosphere surrounded by greenery . Let’s go inside. As you walk up the slope, feeling the surrounding greenery, you will be greeted by a reception lounge with a sophisticated design that emphasizes black. Beyond the full-length glass windows is a courtyard, and sitting on a bench sofa will give you a sense of calm and a special sense of elation when you arrive at the hotel. The raised ceiling is finished with plastering, giving the space a unique texture and depth. The walls here are made of black-dyed cedar boards, and the shaded wood grain brings out the beauty of the material itself. In this corner , you can also purchase the amenities used in the hotel and works by local artists. The contrast between the dark tones and the view outside is beautiful. After checking in, you will come across an open space that acts as an accent to change the scene. The walls are covered with custom-made Japanese paper made with natural pigments, and by combining it with objects that give the impression of light aging , the world of “SOKI” is expressed. Next, let’s take a look at the Satogari garden between the reception building and the restaurant building. In the Satogari garden, citrus fruits, which are cultivated in abundance on the Izu Peninsula, as well as seasonal vegetables and various types of herbs are grown. The harvested ingredients are served as menus in the dining room, allowing you to taste the blessings of nature. Now, let’s move on to the next step. Before heading to the room, we will stop by the “Saryo Tea Salon & Bar” on the top floor, where we will have a welcome drink. Here, we can enjoy teas grown locally in Shizuoka, Japanese and Chinese teas that can be selected according to your physical condition, and health-conscious teas that allow you to enjoy the aroma of medicinal herbs. There is also a terrace space with a magnificent view of Atami Bay in front of us. We can spend a luxurious time gazing at the sea with a drink in hand. It is also attractive that we can enjoy the Atami Fireworks Festival, which is held throughout the year, from here. Today’s welcome drink is “Izu “Kuromoji tea” Distilled water is poured into the hand towels to enjoy the aroma. Now, let’s head to the room. The design of the hallway is also unique, with a skeleton ceiling that shows the equipment as it is combined with a wooden lattice sliding door, a design unique to “SOKI”. This time, I will be staying in a premium twin room with an indoor bath, one of 10 types of room available, including rooms with terrace open-air baths and indoor baths . Inside, there is a long space at the back, with a spacious bed space at the front. Going further back, there is a living space with tatami mats, with a sofa against the wall and a low-height table and chairs lined up in the middle. The raised ceiling connects the entire space, creating a sense of openness. This is the minibar corner, with a full set of tea sets on the top board. The design of the “cha haori (hanten)” worn over the yukata is also clean and stylish. Looking at the space at the back, there is the bathroom and washroom area. The washroom area has two spacious washbasins, and the simple and pure design of the artificial marble top and sink is impressive . A large mirror is installed in the washroom area, giving the impression of spaciousness. Going further back, there is a half open-air bath space with a cypress bathtub. This is a luxurious space where you can open the window and enjoy the outside breeze while enjoying the hot springs. Next is the hotel’s only suite, “SOKI” We were given a special look at the suite , so let’s go right in. This is the living/bedroom, a long, narrow rectangular space with a distinctive high, raised ceiling. The sloped roof design that gets lower towards the window creates a sense of openness and depth. The interior is made with natural materials, creating a warm space . Outside the window, there is a spectacular view of Atami Bay. There are rocking chairs by the window so you can relax while enjoying the view. The table is made of Komatsu stone from nearby Manazuru, and the natural texture adds an accent to the space. On the other side of the window is a spacious sofa bed, providing a relaxing space. Looking at the bathroom, there is a semi-open-air bath area with a large cypress bathtub. Going further in, there is an open-air bath made of ceramic, so you can enjoy different types of hot springs. It looks like it would be nice to take a hot spring bath while looking out at Atami Bay. The design of the washroom is also unique, with a separate wooden washbasin and amenities carved into solid Komatsu stone. You can enjoy two types of hot springs, and in a space where you can feel the warmth of natural materials, you can spend a luxurious and relaxing time while looking out at Atami Bay . It was a wonderful room. Next, in addition to the hot springs in the guest rooms, there is also a large public bath, so we took a special photo of it and would like to introduce it to you. The large bath is a calming dark-toned space with black tiles throughout, and some parts have louvered ceilings, so you can enjoy the hot springs with plenty of hot water while feeling the outside air. After the bath, you can also enjoy the classic coffee milk. I left the room tour here and enjoyed the hot springs at my leisure. Next, since there is still some time before dinner, I decided to try making a scented bag called a “sachet,” which is available at the reception. While I was doing that, it was time for dinner, so I decided to head there. The meal was served in the dining room with an open kitchen with a charcoal fire in the center. The seats are spaciously arranged, and the ceiling height is about 4.5 meters, making it a dynamic and open space. For dinner, we had a “primitive grill” style meal, where fresh seafood and mountain produce caught that day were slowly grilled over a charcoal fire. I ‘m looking forward to the freshly cooked dishes made with fresh ingredients that the chef will serve right in front of me . It was a very satisfying dinner where I could fully enjoy the flavors of the seasonal ingredients. Thank you for the delicious meal. After the meal, I stopped by the “Saryo Tea Salon & Bar” on the top floor. In the evening, the bar opens and serves healthy drinks with herbal aromas. You can enjoy the night view from the terrace, making for a pleasant stay. Breakfast is served in the same dining room as dinner. The breakfast at SOKI ATAMI, which starts the day with color, is a health meal that incorporates a balanced combination of the five tastes that embody a life in accordance with the laws of nature. In addition, a buffet of Japanese and Western side dishes such as small dishes using local vegetables and seafood , and medicinal curry is also available . It was a luxurious breakfast to start the day. Everything looks delicious, so what did you think of SOKI ATAMI? As is typical of Atami, I was able to relax while soaking in the hot spring. In terms of design, the simple yet sophisticated space that makes use of the charm of the materials themselves was impressive. There are not many hotels where you can enjoy both design and hot springs , so I think it is a very valuable existence . It is also easily accessible from the city center, so please visit it. So, on this channel, I will deliver a design journey to hotels, villas, etc. from the perspective of an architect . I myself would like to make use of the wonderful design that I come into contact with while enjoying my vacation to create a better space. If you are interested in travel, architecture, and design, please subscribe to the channel and give it a high rating. See you in the next video. Thank you!
