Hi! I’m Ono in Aomori. Spring has arrived in Aomori. A pleasant breeze is blowing. Today I am on my way to Hyakuzawa Onsen with a 360° camera that I splurged on and bought a while ago. This is my partner this time. It’s a state-of-the-art electric-assist folding bicycle. As you can see, the bike is just the right size for the back of my bug truck. However, this bicycle was provided by the manufacturer. Since it was given to me, I would like to leave it at Hyakuzawa Onsen so that everyone can ride it. I would like to make this bike freely available to guests of this RV park “Aomori Oh No Park”. The assist can be adjusted in three levels. In addition, turn signals and lights are installed. It is almost more like a motorcycle than a bicycle. It provides gentle yet powerful assistance when pedaling. Charging time is approximately 4-6 hours. The maximum traveling distance is said to be 100 km. Wow. It’s like a child who is happy to be able to ride a bicycle for the first time, but in reality, he is a 43-year-old man. I borrowed a helmet from Onsen. Now it was time to go cycling. I am enveloped in the scent of spring that cannot be felt in a car. It’s very easy. Enjoy the spring in Aomori with 360° camera images. The Hyakuzawa area is famous not only for its hot springs but also for its cherry blossom trees. The row of cherry blossom trees in Hyakuzawa is approximately 20 kilometers long. It is known as the longest row of cherry blossom trees in the world. Today, Mt. Iwaki is clearly visible all the way to the top. Incidentally, everyone was shocked when a recent precise survey revealed that Mt. Iwaki, at 1625 meters above sea level, was about one meter lower. At the top of Mt. Iwaki, there is a large stone monument that reads “1625 meters above sea level”. What are we going to do with that? There is a large difference in elevation among the entire rows of cherry blossom trees. This allows visitors to enjoy the cherry blossoms for a long period of time, from late April to early May. It is a continuous uphill climb, but it is comfortable without the need to stand and paddle. Electric assist, how wonderful. Although it is electric, it is quiet, so I can hear the sound of the river and birds singing. It’s completely different from a motorcycle with an engine. It’s very easy to ride, making it the perfect bicycle for cycling on mountain roads. The electric assist itself is very quiet, although there is some road noise due to the thick tires. The firm tires, suspension, and hydraulic disc brakes make it comfortable on mountain roads. This is the gate to the Tsugaru-Iwaki Skyline, which leads to Mt. Iwaki. It is still closed for the snow. It was an approximately 11 km uphill climb, but I was able to ride comfortably without having to stand up once. It’s all downhill on the way back! The downhill that lasts for 10 km is exciting! The wind is still a bit chilly, but still pleasant. (I’m singing a song called “Natsuiro” by Yuzu, a Japanese pop rock duo.) The cycling was very comfortable and pleasant despite the large elevation differences. So, I plan to leave this electric bicycle at Hyakuzawa Onsen, so everyone is free to use them. Tonight I will be staying in my car at “Aomori Oh No Park”. Thankfully, we are getting more reservations from out-of-towners these days. Tonight, all the power sites are full. Well, I think I’ll enjoy a peaceful evening alone again tonight.　 Cheers! It’s the season for delicious mountain vegetables. When cooking for myself, I often choose mountain vegetables that do not need to be parboiled. For example, tara no me (tara tree shoots), urui (Japanese butterbur), and udo (Japanese angel wing). Today I will have taranome and urui. When you think about it, it’s an interesting phenomenon that so many delicious plants grow on their own in the mountains. Let’s have mountain vegetables shabu-shabu today. (raw egg and sukiyaki sauce) Looks good, man. It’s better to cook it quickly so that it’s slightly bitter and has a refreshing crunch. Like Togekuri crabs, mountain vegetables are also a spring delicacy. It is better not to mix the eggs too much. This is because the sauce will stick to the other ingredients better. This mountain vegetable, which resembles shungiku (garland chrysanthemum), has a slightly bitter flavor that goes well with sukiyaki sauce. Cycling in the mountains during the day and enjoying plenty of mountain vegetables in the evening. I am enjoying spring to the fullest. Dakekimi (Hirosaki corn) shochu. This is the first time I have tried this shochu. Delicious. The sweetness and aroma of corn is softly fragrant. It’s already time to look forward to Dakekimi season with this alcohol. But before that comes the delicious season of sea urchin, and the surume-ika squid. I’m busy because there are so many things I want to eat. It began to rain outside and it was cool. The wood stove is still in use. So this time, I introduced everyone to the world’s best rows of cherry blossom trees at Hyakuzawa Onsen.
