Hello! This is Bubu Travel. This time, I’m going on a two-day trip to Hiroshima Prefecture. The destination on the first day is Onomichi. It’s a port town located southeast of Hiroshima City and Miyajima. It’s an hour by Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka. I came to Fukuyama Station in Hiroshima Prefecture. I changed to a local train from Fukuyama Station and was shaken by train for 20 minutes. I arrived at Onomichi Station! It took me an hour and a half from Osaka. It’s fast by Shinkansen. I could already see the sea from the station in a few minutes. It’s a nice place with an old-fashioned port town atmosphere. Onomichi has long been famous as a shipbuilding and shipping town, and you can see the shipyard docks and many huge cranes from the seaside. It’s a morning when there are still not many people. It’s nice to walk along the sea. I entered the “Onomichi Hondori Shopping Street” and came to a long-established kamaboko shop that has been in business since the Taisho era. It’s open at 9am, which is nice! I’d like to eat something for breakfast. From the standard fish paste to unique products, the menu is rich and I can’t decide. I bought two items that caught my eye. I’m glad they have a toaster. I started with Komayaki (280 yen). It looks very cute. It’s fluffy and delicious with an egg flavor!! I really like the gentle sweetness of the egg. Next is okonomiyaki-style tempura (250 yen). It’s not sauce flavored, but it’s full of ingredients such as cabbage and chikuwa, and it tastes strangely like okonomiyaki. The scallions are a nice accent. It also contains green laver. Both dishes were delicious and I wanted to eat more, so I ordered an additional KeimaDog (250 yen). They fried it after I ordered. This is delicious!!! It ‘s fluffier than an American dog! I wonder if the filling is the same as the Komayaki from earlier? The location from the bench in the store is also great. The price is reasonable and I recommend this store. Thank you for the meal! Now that I’m full, I’m heading to my next destination. The atmosphere of this shopping street is nice. Many buildings still retain their old appearance, and the sea can be seen from the alleys, giving a nostalgic feeling. After passing through such a shopping street, we headed towards the mountain side. There were railroad tracks on the mountain side, and trains ran frequently, but we also saw scenes like this! The train was really close. Onomichi has so many slopes that it is called the “city of slopes”. There are many old temples on the slopes, and the place we are going to is one of them. Just a few minutes’ climb from the shopping street gave us a pretty good view. We arrived at a temple called Hodo-ji. This temple is said to have a great view, and you can get a panoramic view of the city of Onomichi. I couldn’t help but scream! It’s a beautiful city even from afar. I wonder if the view can be conveyed on an iPhone? When you come across a spectacular view, you’ll want a good camera. It was a good workout! I wonder if the restaurant for lunch has opened soon. After walking for about 7 minutes, we arrived at a famous Onomichi ramen restaurant. We came here because we wanted to eat the classic, but it was so popular 20 minutes after opening! We were careless because we thought it was a weekday. But it’s not so bad that I can’t wait. I’ve come all the way here, so I’ll line up. The turnover is faster than I thought, and I can enter the restaurant in about 15 minutes. I buy a ticket and wait for a few minutes. I’m face to face with Onomichi ramen!! The characteristic of Onomichi ramen is the flat noodles. And the soup is full of minced back fat!! This is what I wanted to drink! Let’s eat. The richness of the soy sauce is strong and delicious! It’s surprisingly light despite the amount of back fat. The noodles are chewy with a lot of water. I haven’t eaten this noodle much before, but it’s delicious. The ramen soup here is seafood-based, but there is also Onomichi ramen based on chicken bones and pork bones, and although the soy sauce flavor is common, the soup flavor seems to be unique at each store. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal. After the ramen, I came to eat dessert. A long-established store that makes handmade ice cream. The ice cream monaka is popular. 180 yen is cheap. There was a cafe space inside the store, but the sea in front of the store is nice, so I ate alone with the students. The ice cream has a nostalgic egg flavor. It’s not too sweet, so it’s perfect after a bowl of ramen. And best of all, the location. Eating ice cream while looking at the ocean is the best. It’s really a great place. The sky has cleared up a bit, so the ocean is clear and you can see the fish. Time flows slowly throughout the city. Now that the weather is getting better, I’m finally going to Onomichi’s most popular tourist spot, Senkoji Temple. In fact, the forecast predicted a sunny day in the afternoon, so I was waiting for the blue sky to appear. Senkoji Temple is a temple built on the slope of a mountain, and is a popular spot for scenic views. So I came to the ropeway station. As recommended by the official website, I decided to take the ropeway up and walk down. It ‘s 3 minutes to the summit station. The old-fashioned houses built on the slope of the mountain are a lovely, typical Onomichi view. Then, when I looked back, I could see the city of Onomichi and the ocean! What a view! I could see the famous temple called Tenneiji and Senkoji Temple, which I’m going to now. It was a quick ride to the top! I wish I could have stayed on the ride longer. And so, we arrived at the top of the mountain! There is an observation deck right next to the summit station. The wind blows through and it’s cool! The top of the mountain is like a runway, and the city of Onomichi and the sea spread out below us, offering a magnificent view! There is nothing to block the view, so it’s amazing. By the way, Onomichi City is in the foreground and Mukaishima is in the background. The narrow strait between them is called the Onomichi Strait. After seeing the view, we went to Senkoji Temple through the “Literature Path.” There are many haiku along the way. We went down to the middle of the mountain where Senkoji Temple is located, looking at the haiku. On the way, we found a view spot! Onomichi, which can be seen through the gaps in the trees, is also beautiful. At first, we thought it was all downhill, but at the end, there were many steep ups and downs in the stairs. At this point, we were too busy to enjoy the haiku. But it was full of huge rocks, so it felt like an adventure and it was fun. It was exciting to go through the rocks. And so we arrived at Senkoji Temple. In the precincts, there is the “Kagamiiwa” rock, which is said to reflect the light of the sun and moon like a mirror, and a bell tower that has been selected as one of the “Top 100 Soundscapes”. It seems to be popular as a scenic spot. It really is beautiful when it overlaps with the ropeway!! There was also a main hall nearby, so I went to pray. It is really beautiful from any angle. Just walking is soothing. Oh, I found a cat!!! I wonder if it will join me to my destination. Actually, I was lost until just now, and finally reached these stairs. I’m sure this is the right path… I’ll pray to the cat after that. These stairs were the right one! I arrived at my destination!! It really climbed with me! But it ran off without looking back. This huge rock is a spot called Tsuzumiiwa. Onomichi from here has a spectacular view. It is also known as “Ponponiwa” rock, and part of the rock is hollow. It sounds like the sound of a full stomach slapping. The way back from Tsuzumiiwa was also beautiful. As I went down, I found Tenneiji Temple, which I could see from the ropeway. A view often seen in brochures. This is also a famous spot. I also walked along the Cat Alley. There were lots of cat ornaments and art on the side of the road! I like how they are all from the cat’s point of view. There was also a real cat! So cute! It was wearing a collar, so I guess it was a pet. It was surrounded by a lot of people, but it was very friendly. The cafe I wanted to go to near the Cat Alley was closed. It’s not a regular holiday, so maybe it’s just a temporary closure… What a shame. Anyway, I went down a little and headed to this cafe. It’s a lovely little path. It’s tucked away in a hidden spot, so it feels like a hideaway. It’s a cafe that was renovated from an old house that was built over 100 years ago. It got really hot in the afternoon, and I’m sweating. I want to eat something cold. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is very calming. The breeze coming in through the windows feels really nice. I wonder why old houses are so cool? The temperature feels cooler inside than outside. I ordered the recommended menu of the restaurant. When I told the staff that it was hot, they gave me cold matcha. This matcha was refreshing and really delicious! I didn’t know that matcha can be so delicious just by adding ice. The comfortable breeze and the cold sweetness completely dried my sweat. Thank you for the meal. On the way back, I went down a slope called “Senkoji Shindo”. This slope is said to have been used as a location for many movies, such as “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time”, and the scenery was very beautiful. Anyway, I went down the hill and returned to the shopping street, so I went to get some food to eat at the hotel. This is where I came. I was looking for the local gourmet Onomichi-yaki, but there was no Onomichi-yaki on the menu?! I saw something and assumed they had Onomichi-yaki. I asked the staff and they told me that okonomiyaki with gizzard and squid tempura is generally called Onomichi-yaki, and the toppings at this restaurant also have the words “sunazuri” and “ageika”! The staff couldn’t stand to see me and asked if I wanted it made Onomichi-style, so I said yes! So I got the okonomiyaki that they made Onomichi-style! I can’t wait to eat it. On the way back, I met a cute little thing! It was rubbing against my skin so much! It was so cute! I couldn’t leave the place because it was so demanding to be petted. Next, I got some dessert. I came to buy a popular sweet in Onomichi. I bought Onomichi pudding (480 yen). Apparently it is eaten with lemon syrup. I love lemon sweets so I’m looking forward to it ☆ Now that I’ve bought everything, I’m off! The sun is setting. I arrived at the pier to head to the hotel. I boarded the ferry that connects Onomichi and Mukaishima. It runs every 10 minutes between 6:00 and 22:00. After a short wait, the ferry arrived! It ‘s amazing that there are cars on a fairly small boat! The fare is only 100 yen! It takes about 5 minutes to get to Mukaishima. By the way, the crew will come to collect the 100 yen, so I recommend having it ready. 5 minutes goes by in a flash. I arrived at Mukaishima. I arrived at a good time. The sunset from the port is beautiful!! Before heading to the hotel, I went to a shop I wanted to go to. By the way, it’s almost closing time. I was worried that it might close early. It was a 10-minute walk from the port. I made it in time!! A beverage store that has been in business since 1930. They sell cider and drinks that are handmade one by one using traditional methods. The bottles on this shelf are so valuable that they cannot be taken home. Since they are no longer being produced, they must be returned on the spot. I will be drinking at the hotel today, so I will buy some to take home. I bought the store’s signature product, Margo Cider and Onomichi Ginger Ale! The staff took a photo for me! I went back to the port on the right side and came to the hotel. It is “Yasuragi no Yado Shiiso”, a 5-minute walk from the port. It is a small inn with 7 rooms and two floors on a small hill. In fact, it was often reflected in the video, but I didn’t notice it until I started editing. It is very visible from Onomichi! As you can see in the previous photo, it is on top of a hill, so we will climb it. However, the inn is famous for its view. I am looking forward to it. At the halfway point, there is a warm message and a bench for resting. The view is also good. It seems like you can walk without taking a break. The illustrations at your feet that appear occasionally are cute. After walking for a while, I saw a nice gate like one in a school drama. We arrived! This inn is also popular with cyclists, and there were bicycles displayed in the garden. This is today’s room. This is the cheapest Western-style room on the second floor facing the ocean at this inn. Wow, it’s bigger than I expected! It’s a 6-tatami room, but it’s sunny and feels even bigger. I wonder what the view is like? Wow, it’s so beautiful…! This might be the best view I’ve seen today. The window glass is so shiny that even if you open it, the view is the same as through the window. But the breeze comes in and it feels good! I wonder if it’s because it’s on high ground that the breeze comes in. You can see the sunset a little bit. But I installed a screen door because I thought bugs might get in. The room is clean and it’s a nice inn. The glass in the common area was so shiny that you could almost see through it, so I guess that’s what the inn is particular about. The in-house clothes are separate and comfortable. Amenities and hair dryers are all available. The bathroom and toilet are shared in this room, but with this view and a shared bath, it’s 9,000 yen per night! For two people, it starts from 5,400 yen. I think it’s too good value for money in Onomichi, where hotels are expensive. There’s also a refrigerator, which is helpful. So, I’m going to go to the bath to wash off the sweat! As expected, the windows are sparkling. The windows are beautiful and wonderful all over. This is the lobby. I’m happy that they also serve coffee and tea. And in the lobby, there is an unexpected massage machine!!! It seems that you can use it freely. It’s the best. I’m really looking forward to getting out of the bath. Also, the inn sells Margo cider. Plenty of things to enjoy after a bath. There is also a microwave. And here is the bath. It is on the same 1st floor as the lobby. There were not many guests staying today, so we were able to rent out the smaller bath for our own use. They even sell the Karasawa ice cream that we went to today!! The bath is also nice. You can really see the view from anywhere in the inn. Bath. Margo cider after a bath is the best~♪ Blissful time… I kept looking at the window until the sun went down. Gradually the lights came on in the city. So it’s time for okonomiyaki. Delicious!! The squid tempura is a great accent! I love Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki with plenty of cabbage and bean sprouts. And before I knew it, the view outside was like this… It was like a magical other world… It was so beautiful that it seemed unreal, I almost cried… This is the night view from the multipurpose room. Right now, the waves are swaying, but it will be a different view when the boat service ends and the waves calm down. According to the staff, the best time to take the photo today is 2am, so I took the photo at 1am! Because there are no waves, the city is reflected clearly on the water and it’s beautiful. It’s a view I will never forget in my life. I definitely want to come and see it again! I was so fascinated by the night view that I didn’t turn on the lights that day, except for dinner. I went to bed. The next day. Good morning! I’m back in the real world. But it’s sunny again today! Onomichi is also beautiful in the morning. I think I’ll have breakfast in the multipurpose room. The multipurpose room on the 2nd floor where I saw the night view yesterday is OK for light meals. There are many windows so you can see the whole view. Yesterday, I didn’t take any photos because there was a customer there before me. I think I can see the sunset from this seat. I can see the beach too! I think I’ll eat here. Anyway , this is breakfast. I actually bought a lemon cake from Kinmando Honpo yesterday. I was full from the okonomiyaki, so I also had Onomichi pudding. I poured lemon syrup over it. It’s a smooth pudding that’s neither too hard nor too soft. It’s delicious. The lemon syrup is refreshing!! Speaking of Hiroshima souvenirs, lemon cake is a feature. It’s coated with white chocolate. By the way, I forgot to chill it… It’s recommended to eat it chilled. But it goes great with tea. It’s delicious. It was a nice inn. Next time, I’d like to come and stay for a relaxing night with two meals. It’s getting close to check-out time. This is the end of the Onomichi video. On the second day, I’m going to “Tomonoura”. Thank you for watching until the end. If you like, please check out the Tomonoura video.
