I’ll provide you with the latest information on Nara and some hidden spots where you can relax. I left exit 2 of Kintetsu Nara Station. First I walk south through Higashimuki Shopping Street. Look! That’s Nakatanido, famous for its high-speed mochi pounding. What a long line! They’re really amazing tourists. The Naramachi area is famous for its narrow alleys lined with townhouses from the Edo to Meiji periods, where cafes and miscellaneous goods stores gather. (Red circle) But I’m going to take a stroll through the Takahata area, where hidden cafes are dotted in quiet residential areas. (Blue circle) There are fewer and fewer people. I’m hungry. I want to have lunch. This is the cafe I wanted to go to. There’s a huge line! I’m going to give up. What should I do? I found a restaurant that caught my eye. This is a hidden handmade soba restaurant that opened in 2021. It’s located at the back of the parking lot. So it’s a little hard to find. There are only counter seats. The blinds in front of you are nice! What should I order? I’m interested in both the tempura and the eel. I was very worried. So I ordered a set of soba and mini tempura. Let’s eat! It’s handmade soba made with buckwheat flour from Biei, Hokkaido. It’s delicious! It has a very nice aroma! And it’s also good to the mouth. This is rice topped with tempura. Please pour the tempura sauce on it. Let’s eat! The tempura is seasonal vegetables and shrimp. It’s very crispy! Please add as much tempura sauce as you like. It’s not too thick, not too sweet, which I like. When I visited, there were two groups of customers. They told the owner that it was delicious! They left with a smile. I understand how they feel. It’s very delicious! And the owner is very nice. Finally, I drink soba soup. I was satisfied both in my stomach and in my heart. I will come again soon if it is in the neighborhood. I would also like to recommend it to my father who likes soba. Let’s go next! Next, we will go to see the Ukimido floating on the Sagiike pond. It is very quiet. That is the Ukimido. It is a hexagonal hall with a cypress bark roof floating on the Sagiike pond. It was built in 1916, restored in 1966, and rebuilt in 1994. It is currently lit up from sunset to 22:00. It is particularly quiet in Nara Park. And the fresh greenery is beautiful. There is a spot on the south side of it that is not yet known. Do you think it is okay to enter there? No problem. The fence is installed to prevent deer from entering. It is part of Nara Park, which is designated as a national cultural property. This is the site of the villa of a business leader who was active from the Meiji to Taisho periods. Many cultural figures gathered and interacted. It was opened to the public in 2020. Admission is free. The restored teahouse is available by reservation. The site is about 1.3 hectares. There is a pond, a dry landscape garden, and a bamboo grove. The accommodation “Fufu Nara” designed by Kengo Sumi is also located in this park. It is very quiet. I took a lot of photos. I want to drink coffee! Next, I will take this route to the station. On the way, I think I will go to a retro cafe. It’s been a while! How have you been? There are a lot of tourists, so they eat a lot of rice crackers. Congratulations! Sorry! I don’t have it! They will bite your clothes if they don’t get rice crackers. So don’t come near me! There are also many restaurants around, but most of them are reservation only. Be careful. Let’s walk a little! It’s a street on the south side of Kofuku-ji Temple. There are more people. The cafe is down this narrow alley. It was a little different from what I imagined. It’s not a retro coffee shop, but a cafe that looks like it. This is a neo-classical coffee shop that opened in May 2021 and combines Showa retro with modern sensibilities. I like real retro. But I like iced coffee! I’m going to a pure coffee shop. There’s still a line! But it’s better than the morning. I’ll go past Kintetsu Nara Station and go to the north side. It’s on the second floor. Let’s go! This is a hidden coffee shop with a Showa-era atmosphere. Classical music is playing on records inside the store. Recommended for both music lovers and retro lovers. What shall we eat? I want to eat cheesecake. But it was sold out! So I ordered butter toast. It’s very delicious! The toast is simple. It’s carefully toasted and lavishly buttered. It’s crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It goes well with Irish coffee. It’s a happy time to listen to classical music and drink delicious coffee in a nostalgic atmosphere.
