By the time I noticed, the blossoms near home were already gone. We still want to see cherry blossoms in full bloom. Chasing the season, we head a little north. Sabaneyama, located in Funagata Town. The cherry blossom trees are in full bloom. Sabaneyama is home to a small temple hall. Sabaneyama Jizō Hall As we walk, a sense of calm begins to settle in. A breathtaking view spreads out below. Within the grounds, there’s a soba restaurant where the head priest himself makes the noodles. The quality of this soba is seriously impressive. But that’s something to look forward to next time. In search of full bloom, we head further north. We’ve reached Obanazawa City. Lake Tokura Lake Tokura has a walking path that circles the lake. It’s a 2.8 km loop. Let’s walk it. Lake Tokura is vibrant this time of year. Overhead, 300 carp streamers dance in the wind. They say there are about 200 cherry trees here. The scenery feels detached from the everyday world. The sound of footsteps mixes with the murmurs of voices. Petals floating on the lake—a quiet credit roll to the story of the cherry blossoms. As the sun begins to lean, the wind begins to shift. The chill in the air becomes more distinct. Just a little farther until we’re back at the car. The last thing we looked up at—today’s most beautiful cherry tree! Passing by evening watermelon fields, we make our way home. Thanks for watching!

舟形町・猿羽山では、山に抱かれた桜の風景。
徳良湖では、春の風に300匹の鯉のぼりが舞い、湖面に200本の桜が映る。
夕方、花びらが湖に落ちる。
それはまるで、浮世絵の春景色。
風と光と、桜の終わりと始まりをたどるドライブ。
When the cherry blossoms in the city have fallen, we head north with our Jimny.
At Saruhatayama in Funagata, sakura bloom quietly in the mountains.
Then, at Lake Tokura, 300 koinobori swim in the wind, with 200 cherry trees lining the shore.
As the sun begins to set, petals fall into the water.
It looks just like a spring ukiyo-e scene.
A scenic drive tracing the breeze, the light, and the boundary of spring.
