原尻の滝
This waterfall on the Ogata Plain in southern Oita is nicknamed the “Niagara Falls of Japan” for its distinctive horseshoe shape, though these falls are much smaller. Formed by the great eruption of Mt. Aso 90,000 years ago, the falls are around 20 meters high and 120 meters wide. The surrounding flatlands make the falls more impressive, as they seem to appear out of nowhere. A suspension bridge offers a great vantage point over the whole area, leading to a path right across the top of the falls. Near the entrance to the waterfall area, there is a restaurant serving local specialties. A path leads from the restaurant to the basin below, where you can stand on a small outcrop with the falls surrounding you.
大分県南部、大潟平野にあるこの滝は、馬蹄形の独特の形状から「日本のナイアガラの滝」とも呼ばれていますが、実際の滝ははるかに小さいです。9万年前の阿蘇山の大噴火によって形成されたこの滝は、高さ約20メートル、幅120メートルです。周囲の平地が、まるで何もないところから現れたかのような迫力のある滝をさらに際立たせています。滝の入り口近くには、地元の郷土料理を提供するレストランがあります。レストランから滝壺へと続く小道では、小さな岩の上に立ち、滝を囲むようにして滝を眺めることができます。
