One of Japan’s most unexplored regions and spectacular views. Nature and the original scenery of Japan. Enjoy delicious food and hot springs in an unexplored area. An inn where you can spend a quiet time. “Hidden Inn in the Valley, Iya Bijin” can be enjoyed in full text by pressing the subtitle button or CC button. Hello everyone, my name is Watatabi. I’m currently in Tokushima Prefecture. This time we will stay at a hot spring inn in Iya, one of Japan’s three most unexplored regions. The location is in Miyoshi City, Tokushima Prefecture. At an inn located in the Iya Valley, you can spend a quiet time surrounded by spectacular views. This time, we will continue to visit nearby tourist spots and hidden gems. It is known as one of Japan’s three most unexplored regions, but it is also a sightseeing spot that can be accessed by public transportation by taking a bus or a train that runs nearby. After all, the Iya area has many scenic spots. However, the only way to visit the scenic spots is by car. Take National Route 319 and head south towards Kochi. There seems to be a place called “Koboke Observation Deck” ahead of here, so I’m going to go there. The scenery changed in an instant. We continue to drive the car deeper into the mountains. 7km to Oboke, 72km to Kochi. It’s close. Is it nearby? this is. We gradually moved deeper into the mountain. “Oboke/Koboke” is a deep and steep gorge that stretches for approximately 8km upstream of the Yoshino River. It is said that this steep gorge was named because it is dangerous to walk along the river either in long or short strides. It is a series of strangely shaped rocks that have been eroded by the Yoshino River, offering beautiful scenery in all seasons, and has been designated as a national natural monument. The impressive rock carvings and nature that have eroded over 200 million years still remain. Such wonderful views will tickle your sense of adventure no matter how many times you visit. Once you enter National Route 319, you can see the first spectacular view in just 20 minutes. Shall we make a U-turn? No… you can make a U-turn here. Let’s run up from here. a! There’s also a parking lot. We have arrived. This is the “Koboke Observatory”. There’s a village right above it. The parking lot can accommodate 7 cars. This is a parking lot exclusively for motorcycles. There is a portable toilet here. This is the observation deck. There’s a stepladder here, and you can put your smartphone on it. You can also take a commemorative photo here. picture! amazing! It’s so beautiful. It may be a hidden spot. There’s a bench over there. I’ll go there for a while. It looks like you can get off from there. It’s here. Looks like I’m going to get off here. There is a bench under this observation deck. Here it is. Here it is. You can enjoy the spectacular view while sitting on this bench. I can hear the train. Ah, the train is running. Can you see it? The sun has risen, and the weather is really nice today. This is the signboard for this toilet… Isn’t the shoulder width really wide? Let’s move on to the next one. It was a really great view. A group of customers also came. It looks like Oboke Gorge from here. It’s still closed. I came to a place called “Oboke Gorge Sightseeing Pleasure Boat”, but I arrived a little too early so I haven’t done it yet. So, this is the valley, and it’s extremely beautiful. It’s already Children’s Day, so there are a lot of carp streamers. Looks like I’ll be on this boat. The flow is surprisingly tight. The valley continues like this for a long time. By the way, it seems like there is a souvenir shop and food available here. There are carp streamers hanging here, but I wonder how they were installed. It’s a sightseeing boat, but the tourist buses were already arriving and it was the beginning of Golden Week, so I stopped. It’s open from 9 o’clock but it’s already open. I arrived at JR Oboke Station. There is a store called “Boke Mart” right behind here, so I will go there. “JR Oboke Station” This is an unmanned station. I think I’ll buy a ticket here. There’s a monster here. The station looks like this. This is Oboke Station. It seems that “Azami Pass” in Oboke is the birthplace of “Koyaji” from the anime “GeGeGe no Kitaro Character” . It is said that the old man has the appearance of an old man, and when a baby-like cry is heard on the street at night, a passerby takes pity on him and picks him up.He gradually becomes heavier and heavier, and even when he tries to let go, he clings to him and won’t let go, eventually killing him. It’s a cruel monster. There are quite a few hot spring facilities for day trips around this area. This is Oboke Mart. I came here to try their famous “Bokeage”… They’re open from 9 o’clock, but apparently you can only eat from 11 o’clock. I’m a little disappointed. The one on the left is the “2nd store” and the one on the left is the “1st store.” They sell fruits and food here. That was a bit disappointing. I have a lot of time left, so I think there’s a waterfall near here, so I’m going to head there. It’s surprisingly a city. Usually a residential area. Continue on Route 32 deeper into the mountains. The road gradually became narrower. amazing! This is a bus stop! ? A bus is coming here… Yes, we have arrived. Wow that’s amazing! We have arrived. This place is called “Hinoji Valley”. Here it is. That’s amazing! Spectacular view. This gorge was named because the river looks like a “H” shape. It’s like the Kizuro Village in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture, which I visited the other day. Being one of Japan’s three most unexplored regions, it is more impressive than the Kizuro village. This is the current location. If you go this far, you can ride the famous trolley to reach the open-air bath, which is a very popular hot spring, and if you go a little further around here, you’ll find “Manneken Pis”. There is a statue of a child urinating from this height. I’ll try going there later. It was an absolutely spectacular view. There were a lot of tourists, so I’ll stop by later. There is a waterfall very close to Manneken Pis. Is it called Omiyadani? I came to the valley. As expected, there’s no one here. This is Prefectural Route 32, this way. You can’t drive past this point, but it looks like there’s a waterfall ahead. Let’s head over there right away. It seems like it’s just a short walk away. Well…it’s on the way. It was a one minute walk, but it was downstairs. How do you get off this? Maybe there was an exit somewhere. This place is in the mountains, but there are two abandoned bicycles. Also, things like canned coffee and a mysterious cart… do they come all the way here to throw it away? There’s no place to get off at all. And the water is so beautiful. I guess the waterfall has about 3 tiers. I can’t see the whole thing because of the vegetation… There is no place to get off, so I will try my best to get off here. It’s very dangerous as there is a considerable angle of inclination. It’s quite dangerous, so I don’t recommend it. It may have been a tourist spot in the past, but there’s a lot of trash left there. Gas cylinders and signs are also falling down. It looks like there was a life there. There’s a lot of trash falling like this. The pot is falling, and this is a frying pan. There’s a frying pan, and there’s a pot stuck in there. There’s so much household garbage that you wonder if anyone really lived here. I managed to get down to the stream. If you follow this stream, you should be able to reach it. That’s amazing. It is a rock wall over 10 meters high. There was an abundance of nature that you could only get to know if you went down to the stream. Although it is a small valley, once you get down to the stream, you will be overwhelmed by the view. As we approached the waterfall , there was a dynamic and beautiful valley . It’s a waterfall. Sannodoro is a small waterfall that continues to flow quietly without anyone knowing. There is no detailed information, and we don’t know if the height of the waterfall or “San no Todoro” is its official name. Although it is a small waterfall, it is surrounded by moss-covered rock walls, creating a mysterious world. This is it. amazing! Being in Shikoku, the transparency is amazing. The scenery is completely different from what you saw from above, and you will be overwhelmed by the beauty of the valley. i’m back. It was a really nice place with no people around, but it was quite a journey to get there. Once you get down, you can easily go to the waterfall, but getting down is difficult. It’s very slippery underfoot, so if you go, please do so at your own risk. Legend has it that children, Iya Kaido construction workers, and travelers lost their courage by urinating near the rock where the statue is located. That’s amazing. I’m urinating in an amazing place. If you urinate in a place like this… it will feel amazing. Last time I came here, I didn’t even see a car pass by, but there were so many amazing people there. Then, we will head to the inn where we will be staying today. Despite the remote location, many houses are built in the mountains and on the slopes of mountains. I leave the city with a sense of curiosity and longing for what kind of life is like here. As you drive along the valley and pass through the tunnel, the inn will suddenly appear. We have arrived. It’s “Iya Bijin, a hidden inn in the valley.” Since it’s Golden Week, there are a lot of cars passing by. It’s a place very close to Kazurabashi. It’s called a “hidden inn in the valley”, so there’s a valley below. Oh amazing! There is also a bus stop, although the frequency is small. It’s built on top of a cliff in a valley. I thought there were a lot of customers, but there was a soba restaurant next door. It looks like you can eat the original Iya soba. I’ll check in right away. Immediately from the entrance is the front desk, lobby, and store. The shop is lined with souvenirs unique to Iya. Let’s take a look at the room we will be staying in today. This is a three-story inn, and the reception is on the third floor. And the second floor is the guest room. I don’t know anything about the first floor though. This is a guide map of the museum, and it is a very simple interior. The room we will be staying in this time will be the corner room called “Encounter Bridge”. Therefore, this is only a guest room. This is the lobby. There is a toilet on this side of the lobby. There are men’s and women’s restrooms and vending machines. They also sell alcohol. Directly in front of this will be the smoking room. There is a restaurant at the back of the lobby. They are “Eira no Ma” and “Yururi Ma”. If you go further back there is an observation deck, so let’s take a look. Ah, amazing. There’s some water flowing. The observation deck looks like this. It’s an absolutely spectacular view. It’s pretty scary. It’s over 100m long. It seems more likely. Oh my… the raccoon… is doing it. It seems like he’s imagining the Manneken Pis we saw earlier. The room we will be staying in this time is “Encounter Bridge”. It’s right here. This will be Kota’s room. By the way, the key is a cute key that looks like oden. It’s the type that you turn and press. The entrance looks like this. This will be your room. So, this is…a futon. This will be the washroom. The bathroom looks like this, towels and toiletries are provided, and there is also a hair dryer. And this will be the toilet. I’ll take a look at the room. The room looks like this. The room is 10 tatami mats in size. As you can see, the amazing thing is that it has an open-air bath. However, this inn does not have a public bath. So each room has a bath. Personally, I wanted a wooden bath, but since I made a reservation on short notice, this was the only room available, so I ended up with this ceramic bath. It’s spacious enough for just sleeping. This is tea. There is tea and Sudachi tea. I’ve never had it before, so I’ll try it later. This will become an outlet, and it has a really interesting shape. There are a lot of outlets, and there are about 5 USB ports around them. That’s amazing, it’s the first time I’ve seen something like this. This is the confectionery you will receive. This is where it was placed. Wi-Fi password and 10% discount on souvenirs from the prefecture. It looks like there is a 10% discount only if you pay in cash. This is the safe, and next to it are the tabi socks and body towel. Also, towels, bath towels, and yukatas are provided here. Let’s take a look at the bathroom right away. I have a screened door right now, so a really cool breeze comes in. There are showers, tubs, and shampoo here. I’ve already learned how to use this, but it says that if you press the button with the musical note symbol here and twist this, the hot spring will come out. It’s out. The more you turn it to the right, the hotter the hot spring comes out, so you can adjust the heat yourself. It will automatically stop after 20 minutes. This is the view from the bath, and it looks like this. There’s a valley right there. I can’t go there, but the space is inspired by a Japanese garden. It’s a futon, but it seems like they will prepare it for you while you eat. I’ll go in then. You can see the valley while taking a bath. This is insanely luxurious. The quality of the spring water is clear, colorless, and has a faint scent of sulfur. It’s a simple sulfur cold mineral spring. “There is no circulation filtration.” It seems that it is a continuous flow. “We do not use bath salts” “We do not use disinfectants” It’s like the hot springs in Kyushu where you press the button and the hot spring comes out. It’s a screen door, so there’s a cool breeze and it feels good. I thought I’d feel a lot of eyes on me… because it’s made of glass… my wife is really looking at me… Today you can soak in this hot spring as much as you like at any time you like. It’s so luxurious. I went to a hot spring. It was really good. The cool breeze comes in, and the faint smell of sulfur makes the room and hot springs very satisfying. There’s nothing around me so I don’t leave my room, but I can enjoy the inn because there’s a hot spring and I can enjoy the scenery. The accommodation fee was around 45,000 yen the day before, but yesterday the price had dropped and it was 41,000 yen for 2 adults including 1 night and 2 meals. This room can accommodate 2 to 6 people. Now let’s head to dinner. It looks like a hearth like this. And you can see the scenery right there. There is a horigotatsu underfoot. First, we will have plum wine as an aperitif. This dish is so cute. It may not be in focus, but… there’s a rabbit on it. First, let’s start with the amago sashimi. picture? Isn’t there a bone? It’s so greasy, river fish burnt. The body is warping, so I think it’s probably due to rigor mortis from being strangled before serving the food. These spots from the amago remain, so they are very good at removing the skin. While eating delicious sashimi, you can enjoy nature next to you. It’s so cute that it’s a waste to eat it. This is so cute. Fry for 5 minutes on each side. There’s a key, right? I thought this was oden, but it turns out it was about this. This is what the local dish “Soba Rice Zosui” looks like… It’s not rice, it’s typical of Soba rice. Oh, it’s delicious! It’s insanely delicious. It’s completely different from rice, in terms of texture and taste. The soup stock is delicious. I was casually looking at this place and saw a raccoon dog urinating… salt-grilled sweetfish. You see, it’s really big. delicious! It’s so hot. I forgot… it’s burnt… it’s just a little bit burnt. But this looks delicious. Is this a boar pot ? Konnyaku? It is made from konjac potatoes and is a homemade product. Here you can enjoy the local cuisine “Dekomawashi”. The miso is a little on the sweet side, so it might be better if it was slightly charred, making it more fragrant and delicious. This is tofu. It seems to be tempura made with fried sweet potatoes and Oba. It instantly melts in your mouth. delicious. This is “Kogomi”. There’s no bitterness. delicious. Boiled with miso flavor. Miso flavor? Hey. Isn’t it already going well? This shakes a lot. Introducing rice and pickles. It’s like “mountain jellyfish with red plum sauce.” These are cherry blossom petals… I’m doing extremely detailed work. This is amazing. This is on top of the pickles. How do you make this? Is there something to make a mold of it? It’s getting dark in a good way. The person who brought me the food was very kind and a really nice person. I don’t like dried shiitake mushrooms, but I can eat them raw. This miso also has a gentle flavor. This tofu is very firm. Zaru soba has arrived. I’m already pretty full though… There are a lot of inns here. I thought soba was delicious, and there was a soba restaurant next door. This is dessert. Bavarois and apple compote. Thank you for the meal. It was really delicious and the volume was huge. There really wasn’t anything that I didn’t like or seasoning that I didn’t like. It was truly delicious without being overwhelming. Above all, Nakai-san’s response was extremely good. He really has a great personality as well. Even if the food was good or the hot springs were good, if the staff didn’t treat you well, it would all be ruined, but the waitress here was truly wonderful. She’s laying out the futon for me. The curtains are also closed. When you close the curtains, it feels like another room. This outside temperature is nice. The sound of the mountain stream flowing is also nice. Shall we go in again? After all, it gets cold at night. Just by raising the temperature a little, the bathtub will become warmer in no time. It’s best to take a bath whenever you like. Oh, that’s amazing, I can see the stars. What do you think? Is it visible? This is the limit. good morning. Before I knew it, I was asleep. Well, I’m going to take a bath in the morning now. Breakfast is like this. The weather is really nice today, isn’t it? The raccoon’s urine isn’t flowing today. Thank you for the meal. It was extremely delicious. It was a really nice hot spring inn. It was really nice to have an open-air bath in this room. Everyone, please come and stay if you like. I highly recommend it. As I was about to check out, I heard that I could get a cup of coffee at this soba restaurant, so I decided to go there. This one is the real deal. There’s a lot of moss growing on important parts, but is it okay? How was your trip to Iya Valley, one of Japan’s three most unexplored regions ? See you in the next video! Thank you for watching until the end.

Watatbi-san, I know, that I will enjoy this video and the ryokan in Tokushima very much. However, next March, we plan to travel mostly to places within central Honshu. Nagoya, Fukui city, Gero onsen, Besso onsen, some places in Ibaraki-ken and some places in Saitama-ken and Gunma-ken.
