26 people have been killed in Indian administered Kashmir. Tensions between India and Pakistan are spiraling. The Kashmir is the stumbling block to peace between India and Pakistan. The most militarized zone in the world. The worst unrest in the Kashmir valley for 6 years. The most disputed regions in the world. Kashmir has been going on for a thousand years. Probably longer than that. India’s spirit will never be broken by he to the ends of the earth. And obviously there will be art all over the world. In 2024, we traveled to Kashmir to hike to a remote alpine lake called Tulian Lake near the town of Bahalam. Back then it was just a travel video, a quiet trek through forest and meadows guided by a local Kashmiri with moments of beauty and calm. This video was never meant to be political. It was just a simple travel story. But a few weeks ago, the story changed. In April 2025, gunmen opened fire on tourists in Bahalagam, the exact same area where we filmed this video last year. Several people were the meadow where we stopped for coffee with the guide is now a crime scene. The incident has sent shock waves across the world. US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Italian Prime Minister George Maloney. Trump has added India and America have vowed to fight terror together. This is a big statement. Political tensions have escalated. Security in Kashmir has tightened dramatically. And once again, Kashmir has become the center of a growing rift between India and Pakistan. We decided to revisit this footage and re-edit the video, not just to show you the beauty of the region, but to talk about what I didn’t say back then. The military presence, the silent tension, the different opinions, the history, and the voices that often go unheard. It’s a story about a place caught between beauty and conflict and what it means to travel here. So, we still need to get our permit because in in Kashmir, you need a permit for every single hike as a foreigner you want to do. And we need a document that proves our health. And since I don’t have that, we have to go to the hospital now first to do full on checkup and then we can get the permit cuz uh in the forest where we’re going there’s a lot of soldiers and they might ask for that. With a heavy surveillance comes a lot of permits, paperwork and ID checks. Life here comes with a lot of [Music] restrictions. We have to go to the shop and buy the farm over here. It’s like a farm. So we have to bring that here. They will maybe they will talk you and after that they will write down on there. Okay, we got the form. Now we have to go back to the hospital to fill it in and do a test. You have to tell him your name and he will give the recept there. We have the idea with this. Ashaf needs to get his blood taken because he doesn’t know his blood group and for the health test they need all this information. Now they have to cut his finger to get some blood. And he really likes it. You can see how much he likes it. Really likes it. Can’t believe I have to get a whole ECG just to get a permit for a high. 1 hour later and we finally got all the documents after our ECG. I should have taken blood, a lot of papers, stamps. Our guide said that uh it’s always a rigid system here that if someone needs to easily uh very fast get an operation, they just die if they don’t get the correct stamps or if they don’t get the correct money. [Music] What is the festival that they come for? Well, they go to see their temple to see their guard inside the cave and come back. So in the other times of the year there’s no soldiers here. It’s only during the festival only this two months. Every year two months you can see pulsar. We talked more with our Kashmir guide and with some local people who told us about internet restrictions, arrests for protesting for Palestine and daily surveillance. We have to go. You can see the mist over there. Yeah, we have to go there. So it’s going to rain where we are. We have to rain. Maybe you have something. Oh, we have something for rain. We are not done yet to leave. Now we have to go back to the guest house and fill in some extra documents there to finally get the permit. The bureaucracy is never ending. Our guide is now uh going to an office because he wants to pay for the permits, but they didn’t allow him to pay with a card or with Google Pay. He has to go and bring cash there. So, he went there now and then he has to get a certificate from them that is stamped and then he has the permit finally. And we’re now waiting in his office here with some tea. Finally left. It’s just raining very quietly. We’ve got this stick to walk with. And the first point we’re heading towards the 3-hour walk. It’s a cabin in the woods basically where we’re staying [Music] tonight. It’s very difficult to walk with my shoes. I didn’t get the correct walking shoes and it’s very muddy. Okay. [Music] It’s very good that we got those papers because we’re only in the hike for 5 minutes and already two soldiers stopped us to ask for the permits because this entire forest is filled with soldiers. They cannot film here now because but they’re on the left of me now. Uh if you look deep in the forest, you always see a lot of soldiers sitting uh in a tent or in camouflage. Along the way, there were soldiers, a lot of them. I didn’t film them out of respect and caution, but you feel them everywhere. In Kashmir, you’re never far from the army. And for many locals, that presence doesn’t feel protective. It feels suffocating. After open maybe we can have some tea also. And how do you call this? Vice mini Switzerland. Mini Switzerland. I would say that Switzerland is mini Switzerland. Kashmir is big Switzerland. It’s a beautiful valley. We stopped here for coffee. A peaceful meadow with a small zipline and a stream running through it. At the time it felt like just another beautiful quiet stop on our way to Tulian Lake. But on April 22nd, 2025, the calm in this mini Switzerland was shattered. Around 2:45 in the afternoon, armed men in camouflage emerged from the nearby forest and opened indiscriminate fire on a group of [Music] tourists. Okay, don’t worry. Don’t worry. You okay? You need a water, sir? Ask for help. They attacked 26 people, most of them Indian tourists and one Nepali national. The victims include people from all over India. A newly wet naval officer, a retired banker, a cement dealer, and a golf return attorney. Survivors described chaos. Shots rang out as people fled downhill, unsure what was happening. Some were hit in the crossfire. The lake is behind that mountain. Yeah, in the bottom of the snow mountain over there. Watching this footage now, knowing what took place on the same trail, it’s hard not to feel a deep unease. It’s an attack on people but also an attack on a fragile sense of normaly the Indian state has worked hard to project in the disputed [Music] region. They are going to bring the clean water from the stream. Oh they also cultivating corn. They have corn. They have potatoes. They have beans. To understand what’s happening in Kashmir today, you have to go back decades. After the partition of British India in 1947, the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir was caught between two nations, India and Pakistan. Its Muslim majority population made it culturally closer to Pakistan. But its Hindu ruler chose to seed to India during a time of war and uncertainty. That decision sparked the first of several wars between the two countries and created the foundation for a territorial dispute that still hasn’t been resolved. India has always claimed Kashmir as an integral part of its union. It’s written into the official narrative and reinforced through military presence, political control and development plans. But for many Kashmiris, the story is different. They see themselves as caught in a tug of war. Not just between India and Pakistan, but between their own identity and an occupying force. For years, Jammu and Kashmir held a unique status within India under article 370, a form of partial autonomy that allowed it to have its own laws, its own flag, and limited influence from Delhi. But in 2019, that status was revoked by the Indian government. What followed was a communication blackout, a heavy military lockdown and a wave of detentions. For many Kashmiris, it was a turning point, a moment that confirmed their worst fears that their voices, their identity, and their future could be erased. The group that claimed responsibility for the April 2025 attack, the so-called Kashmir resistance, was reportedly formed in the aftermath of the 2019 decision. Indian authorities have labeled it a terrorist group backed by Pakistan. Pakistan denies involvement. The tensions between the two nuclear armed neighbors have spiked yet again. And in the middle of it all are ordinary Kashmiris caught between geopolitical agendas, caught between nationalism and insurgency, caught between silence and survival. This is the complicated reality that exists behind the landscapes and tracks. A reality that tourists rarely see, but that shapes every life here, every step on the trail. We arrived in base camp, and there’s a few people here that are already camping here. We’re not going to stay in a tent tonight. We’re going to stay in a house there with local people over there. [Music] Masala. Yeah. This is your house tonight. Wow. It’s very cozy in here and nice and warm. How do they get electricity here? Solar. Solar panel. They stay here at night. They sleep here. The cows and cattle sleep there. We stayed with a family who live up here for part of the year. They’re part of a nomadic community. Gujars and Bakarals who move with the seasons hering sheep, goats, and horses through the Himalayas. These are the mountain people of Kashmir. Often mislabeled as gypsies. They’ve lived like this for generations in simple wooden huts off the grid high above the tourist trails. Their lives are shaped by the rhythm of the land but also by the politics below. Many of them are Muslim but live far from the noise of Bahalagam and Sinagar. Still they feel the weight of border tensions, curfews and disappearing grazing lands. That night they welcomed us with food, warmth and laughter. But there was a quietness too, like they knew things were changing even up here. Okay. Wow. Wow. Oh, wow. Very cozy. Okay, we’re laying in the bed now. It is actually quite comfortable and um it’s the only morning for the hike. In the morning, we continued in the mountains. Along the way, we met more tourists. The friendly people that hosted us the previous day guided us on the back of their horses to the top of the mountain. And I kept thinking, these are the people rarely seen in headlines, but they carry Kashmir soul in the way they live. Close to the earth, far from power, and always moving forward. From here on, we go further on because it’s too steep for the [Music] horses. This part of the climb is definitely the steepest part. I’m glad I have this stick because otherwise I would have fallen a few times already. All right. It’s a type of a mineral. This [Applause] beautiful. We reached the lake. Finally. And the water is very blue today. Very beautiful. Finally. Finally, some drinkable water. [Music] During our visit, what stood out was the welcoming and kindness of the local people, not just here, but all over Kashmir. The tensions are high now, and blaming one group happens too often in politics. When I traveled here, I could really feel the warmth and the welcoming from the people that live here. People that have always been affected by political disputes in this region and have now been ever more. It is almost always not religion that makes people do horrible things, but rather politics. Thus, maybe we should not let the actions of some be the fault of many. Our friend who at the time showed us around told us how now everything is closed. The streets are filled with soldiers and tourists stay away. While safety is an obvious concern, also the lifehood of the local should be as many of them, so our friends live off the income from tourism. It is always political to travel to an area like this. But we do always support local guides. When this region knows peace, which I hope will be soon, and you want to visit Pahalam, please also think of supporting local guides like our friend. The attack in Bahalam didn’t just shake Kashmir. It rippled across the subcontinent. India was quick to point fingers at Pakistan, accusing it of harboring or supporting the group behind the violence. Pakistan denied involvement, calling the claims politically motivated. But beneath familiar diplomatic changes lies something deeper. A fragile, volatile relationship between two nuclear armed neighbors built on decades of mistrust. Talks between the two sides have stalled for years. Borders remain tense and every incident like this, every act of violence in Kashmir pushes them further apart. Meanwhile, Kashmiris are caught in the middle. their future, their peace, too often becomes a bargaining ship in a conflict not of their choosing. Some fear what comes next. More crackdowns, more silence, more violence. But others hold on to something else. A quiet hope that one day this land will be more than a battlefield of narratives. That it might be known not for what divides it, but for what could still bring people together.

why we count all teriest groups and individuals in the world which religion people dominated 😂😂😂😂😂 answer you don't like
You did not talk about the Kashmiri pandits and the genocide . Must tell the correct history and the present condition post 370 abrogation
It's the ideology of islam that is coming in between people not every muslim are terrorist but why is it that all terrorist are muslims. You need to understand that first why is it easy to brainwash muslims
Lolz, worthless weak Hindus Vs smart strong Muslims 😂
these terrorists received some local support to conduct this terror attack which is really worrying
Your are on a public platform and don't try to sugar coat the harsh truth. They've lost their life just because they are not a MUSLIM. who does that other than "Terrrorists" an extremist Muslim. India has try to maintain peace while the other side nurture terrorist, this is not the first time they had done something like this, with ur half knowledge just keep quiet as it spread incomplete msg for the viewers who might not know India. Infact India is secular state (Muslim,Hindu, Christian etc) and it give benefits to all its minorities..did Muslim country even do that.
I don't know English very well, I know only a little
can we be a good friend ❤
Love from north east Nagaland brother ♥️🇮🇳♥️
Kashmir originally belongs to hindus
Massive massacre held against hindu by terrorists and radical groups. We should not forgot that. Also they are not gunmen. If you cannot speak the truth, just don't get into it. Even pak has accepted their dirty work. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I really don't know what are you trying to portray here with this video or upload!!! By showing this not many foreigners will come to visit Kashmir. Something lot of Kashmiris and Indian govt,………. worked hard for to create a normalcy!!
The history you portrait about Kashmir is not factually correct.
You don't have guts to say in your video on 22nd April attack as a " terriost attack", and condem it, you don't know about LET (Lakshar a Toibha)!! You are talking about politics!!! here!! What an irony!! ??
Shame on you 9/11 attackers was terrorists but Pahalgam attacker are gunman . What a hypocrisy.😮
You are said all muslims are not bad, that's true but terrorists are muslims that is also a 100% true.
Indian government or indian give equal rights to muslims , in 1947 muslim population in India was 3 crores now in 2025 muslim population increases to 25 crore , in 1947 Hindu population in pakistan was 10-12% now it decreased to 2%. This shiws the real fact. Don't spread nonsense without real knowing fact.
Bro please, it's a terrorist attack. They are not just any random gunman like in USA. Please don't spread fake news as people have lost lives in this event. Please be responsible and fact check your terms before usage.
Dude, IS!S flags were raised in Kashmir, Hindus were mass@cred. Pakistan is fueling terrørism not only in Kashmir but also globally with its 150+ UN designated terrør orgs.
I am a foreigner who always love visiting Kashmir (5x) due to its beautiful nature & lovely hospitable local. Regret to hear what happened in Kashmir but I still love to visit and back in Kashmir for visit in near future.
It was these very Kashmiris, the so-called protectors of Kashmir, who were responsible for the massacre of Kashmiri Pandits. In a country where Hindus are the majority, such violence against a minority is almost unimaginable anywhere else in the world.
Despite this, India has consistently worked towards the development of Kashmir. Don't spread propaganda—get your facts straight. Jammu and Kashmir willingly chose to accede to India; hence, it is not a disputed region at all. The only truly disputed area is Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The truth is, you people seem to have a personal problem with India. You suddenly become obsessed with human rights only when it comes to India. But when it comes to atrocities in Gaza, Iraq, or Syria, you remain completely silent.
Their is lot difference between the word "Terrorists and Gunmen".
Let me make it clear to all my brothers right from the start — whoever has seen this video, that’s enough. Don’t watch it any further. This video is completely filled with propaganda and presents only one side of the story.
And now these ignorant people are trying to lecture Indians on secularism — the very nation that is the origin and true example of secularism.
There’s no need to give this video any more views. Everyone should come together and report it
Gun Man dude it's a pure terrorism …
Jai Hind
Bro, i have a question, did any of kashmiri you met complained you about some particular right they lack now?
The unease peace you talked about is because of Pakistan and their puppet terrorists which they train and across the border to India. I suggest you to visit kashmir administered by Pakistan and compare infra on both side of the border, like number of hospital and university, etc. You tried to sound unbiased and sympathetic to locals but you know nothing. You know nothing yet you chose to talk.
Just Report it sha e on u
Israel – Muslim vs Jews
Europe – Muslim vs Christian
india – Muslim vs Hindu
Mayanmar – Muslim vs Buddhist
Its a struggle against Indian illegal occupation of Kashmir
brother i am from kashmir and i know ground reality, this was a false attack preplanned by indian goverment to get support from usa against Pakistan and genocide muslims in india, right now hundreds of homes of innocent civilians who have nothing to do with this have been bombarded by indian army, the indian goverment have done the same in 2000 when they killed many sikhs during bill clinton visit to india and blamed pakistan, this was exposed by indian army sikh officers themselves, and now now during usa jd vance visit to india,
even if we say we kashmiris have done that, have we done any thing wrong? millions of kashmiris have been genocide by indian govermnet since 1948 india have invented a temple near the place where the attack happend and sends thousands of hindus from india to this temple just so they can claim kashmir(kashmir is muslim land and before islam it was buddhist) as a historic hindu land and change its demographics, india has illegally settles more then 80 thousand indian hindus in kashmir to change demographics india has done the same in jammu state where they genocide more than 500,000 muslims and forcefully exiled more than 250,000 people to pakistan
i would suggest you to watch GDF channel video on kashmir, india has banned that video in india because they are scared from truth
Ter bombas e não usar que graça tem ,😂😂😂
Gunmen and militants but not terrorists. Idgaf about your foreign opinion.
Report this channel to the HM of India and EAM of India.
This guy came as a tourist to India last year, and enjoyed the hospitality of many Indians, even Hindus of Kerala. And now he is lecturing us on our internal affairs and spreading !slamic propaganda. He freeloaded his way to Kashmir while he was supposed to contribute to the economy of the country on a tourist visa. He thinks that he is morally and intellectually superior to us and he is here to make a change and give us a lesson or two on humanity with his ill-informed knowledge of our country, it's history, and what the subcontinent has experienced due to the presence of !slam which came as a result of !nvasion to the region that we call the Indian subcontinent replacing and subjugating India Origin beliefs, customs, religions such as Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism.
Indians not gonna leave you becz they dont like truth, in simple worlds india is called israel of southasia by many, israeli propaganda and indian propaganda is same.
Also one thing clear, during the partition it was decided that the areas where muslims are in majority will be given to pakistan and kashmir was muslim majority are so everyone thought they were going to be part of pakistan but the ruler of kashmir was a hindu decided that kashmir will be in india and all the muslims were totally against it (i.e majority of population) so according to initial decision he had no right to Give kashmir to india as it was muslim majority and muslim majority areas were included in pakistan. To this day indians are so deluded. I dont understand how they cant get basic common sense.
An idiot foreigner trying to lecture Indians. You had no idea about Kashmir. My Dad guards Indo-Pak border during 90's and shares what really happens to them during those years and it's horrible.
It was like Either you fight back till the end with your gun or else you're a dead man if you retreat.
🖕 from Northeast India
Amai serieus wat commotie
Indian army is at fault. They failed to protect them, they have army their why they were failed to protect those people? and as usual india always blame Pakistan for whatever happens in india. Modi want this fight between Muslims and Hindus and between Pakistan and india. As a Pakistani Muslim I don't promote war, but they're always blaming Pakistan for everything. I mean Pakistan didn't even know about that attack and their own people of kashmir and soldiers posted a video saying that Pakistan is not responsible but india is. I mean I don't understand why modi and some Indian people hate us unnecessarily. They always brainwashed everyone and trying to be victims but the truth is completely opposite.
I don’t know what you want to prove or just want to gather the views of billions of peoples. First go back to the history of this place and study about what Kashmir was and why the current situation is so complex. There are Kashmiris who support terrorists and give them food, shelter and support that’s only because of the religion. We live in the time where religion is important than the lives of innocent people and national security. First they ethnically cleansed Kashmiri pandits, sikhs, valmikis then started the rhetoric of free Kashmir and joining to Pakistan its only because of the religion.
Why do you need army? Because terrorists don’t have uniforms.
Please don’t try to sell the half baked truth. Go study some history my friend.
As a Kashmiri, thank you for your insight. You are always welcome anytime. Stay blessed 👍.
