日本100名城 安土城 近世城郭の先駆けとなった織田信長の城 滋賀県 Azuchi Castle 2025

Today we will head to Azuchi Castle in Shiga Prefecture. Get off at JR Azuchi Station. It is about a 25 minute walk from the station to Azuchi Castle. There is a bronze statue of Oda Nobunaga in front of the station. First, go east along the railroad tracks. The mountain in front is the ruins of Azuchi Castle. You can see the stone monument of Azuchi Castle. What you can see on the right is the guidance facility. Azuchi Castle was built by Oda Nobunaga. It is said to be the first castle in Japan to have a cathedral. We will go up from the main road. You can see the toll booth. Immediately after passing through the tollgate, the stone steps of Ote-michi will appear. There is a kuruwa on the left. This place is said to be the site of Maeda Toshiie’s residence, but there seems to be little evidence for it. On the left side of the main road is the ruins of Hideyoshi Hashiba’s residence, so let’s go there as well. A huge area is spread out. Return to the main road and go up. One of the characteristics of Azuchi Castle is the main road that runs straight to the main enclosure. This is the upper part of the ruins of Hideyoshi Hashiba’s residence. There is a rebuilt Rumiji Temple here, but it was closed on this day. There was a bell tower on the upper level. The steep slope continues. It’s like a drain. Azuchi Castle uses many repurposed stones, and they can be seen in many places. There was also a diversion stone here. Turn right here to go to the main enclosure. You can see the Kurogane Monzeki in the background. Kurokanemon is the first entrance into the center of Azuchi Castle. There was a turret gate and Tamon turret here. It has a Masugata Koguchi. If you go out of Kurokanemon and go to the left, you will see the Oda family’s memorial tower. Here is a memorial tower for Oda Nobunaga’s son Nobuo and his descendants. Return to the road heading towards Honmaru. This area will be the obi curve under Ninomaru. It is a Buddha foot stone. It seems that this stone was originally used as a stone wall. Head to Ninomaru. The main shrine of Oda Nobunaga is located here. It was built by Hideyoshi Hashiba, and Nobunaga’s belongings are buried here. We arrived at Honmaru. There was Honmaru Palace here. It is said that the Honmaru Palace had a “Goyuki no Ma” where the Emperor was invited. There are ruins of the temple above this. It is said that the main building of Azuchi Castle was magnificent, with five floors and seven floors. Inside, there were wall paintings by Eitoku Kano. I arrived at the ruins of Tenshu. At that time, it seems that Lake Biwa was just below us. You can see Nobunaga’s main mausoleum, which we visited earlier. I will go down from the castle tower. I went down to the Kurokinmon Gate. You can see that large stones are placed there. On the way back, I will go back from the three-storied pagoda. The three-storied pagoda is said to have been relocated from Koka by Lord Nobunaga. This is the ruins of Rumiji Temple. Rumiji Temple once stood here. Go further down and head to Nioumon. Niomon was built in 1571. Thank you for watching.
