鶴岡八幡宮は、京都の「岩清水八幡宮」を由比若宮郷鶴岡に勧請したのが始まりです。大分県宇佐市にある「宇佐神宮」が八幡さまの総本宮。
３月１８日は、皇室より幣帛(へいはく)を賜り、斎行される「宇佐神宮」で最も重要な祭典で、宇佐祭といわれます。欽明天皇三十二年二月初卯の大神ご顕現ゆかりの日に斎行されます。
鶴岡八幡宮では、宇佐八幡宮遥拝所の真榊の前にて神事が行われましたのでその模様をお伝えします。

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine was founded when Kyoto’s “Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine” was enshrined in Yuiwakamiyago Tsuruoka. “Usa Jingu Shrine” in Usa City, Oita Prefecture is the main shrine of Hachiman.
March 18th is the most important festival at “Usa Jingu Shrine”, where offerings are given by the Imperial Family and the ceremony is held, and it is called the Usa Festival. It is held on the day associated with the appearance of the great deity on the first day of the rabbit in February in the 32nd year of Emperor Kinmei’s reign.
At Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, a ritual was held in front of the sacred sakaki tree at the Usa Hachimangu Worship Site, so we will report on the scene.
