空撮 ニセコ連峰 シャクナゲ岳 ビーナスの丘 Aerial view of the Niseko mountain range, Venus Hill
シャクナゲ岳という山名は昔はシャクナゲの木があったことに由来するようです。北海道の中で植物の名が山名となった例は珍しいものと思われます。
夏場の登山は整備された観光スポットにもなっています。シャクナゲ岳とその北側に位置する標高1040ｍの無名峰の一帯は、その美しい山容からビーナスの丘と呼ばれ、冬場はこのビーナスの丘を中心にバックカントリースキーが行われています。
The name of the mountain, Shakunage-dake, is said to come from the fact that there used to be rhododendron trees here. It is thought to be rare in Hokkaido for a mountain to be named after a plant.
Summer mountain climbing has also become a well-maintained tourist spot. The area around Mt. Shakunage and the unnamed peak to the north at 1,040m above sea level is called Venus Hill because of its beautiful mountain shape, and in winter, backcountry skiing is done mainly around Venus Hill.
