Delta SkyMiles: 6 Tips To Use Your SkyMiles (Like a Pro!) in 2020

Again and again, we hear people say that Delta SkyMiles are worthless. Some even call them SkyPesos.

They’re wrong.

Delta SkyMiles can definitely be difficult to understand and use. Unlike many airline miles that have set rules for how much a flight should cost (called an award chart), the amount of SkyMiles you’ll pay to book a flight can vary drastically.

That makes it harder to figure out what’s a good deal and what’s not. And in some cases, it means you’ll pay a fortune (in SkyMiles) for the flights you’re looking for.

But don’t give up. There can still be some tremendous value when using SkyMiles. If you follow some principles and our tips laid out in this video, you’ll find some opportunities to use your SkyMiles that you simply can’t find with other airlines.

There are frequent flash sales with domestic flights as low as 5,000 SkyMiles round-trip, trips to the Caribbean and even Europe for just 15,000 SkyMiles or less, and much more. There are workarounds you can employ to save a boatload of miles. And you can even use your SkyMiles to fly partner airlines, saving SkyMiles for an even better deal.

Bottom line: SkyMiles aren’t worthless. Just the opposite, in fact. You just need to put in some extra work and follow these tips to see that.

  1. Dynamic Award Pricing – that was the terminology I was looking for to describe SkyMiles and a handful of other FFP's, thanks! And it's always in multiples of 500 (i.e. 5,500). Southwest Airlines has a similar pricing but even more dynamic in that the price depends on the cash fare of that same flight on that same day. Now that one, I wouldn't know the right term for LOL!

  2. Too bad their phone wait times are over 6 hours when I needed them most. Then chat never happened either. Why fly Delta?

  3. I generally use my SkyMiles for trips to DEN from CVG. Usually around 9-10k round trip for Main Cabin. Received 70k for the Amex Delta Gold SUB so that's like 6-7 round trips to Denver for $95 😉 I See Chase Ultimate Rewards Points are better for International Flights because of their transfer programs.

  4. Between 2012-2018 I could buy a one way ticket from LAX to SEA and one back each for 5,000 miles. A round trip would cost me 20,000 miles, so strange. I don't fly that any longer but I wonder if it is still the same.

  5. Even though Air Europa is skyteam you ca not earn skymiles on them or thru check your bags on air europa. We flew crom dallas to tenerife last year. Delta from DAL-MIA 4 hr connection in MIA then MIA-TFN. Delta would not thru check are bags nor give us skyteam miles on air europa.

  6. Shit video. “They’re dead wrong” and point 1: “be flexible”

They’re called skypesos for a fucking reason

  7. when you book a flight with Virgin Atlantic you get Sky Club miles? Do you also get MQD for Delta Status for being partner with Delta? is that Automatic or do you give your skymiles and you wont receive any Sky Club miles?

  8. I’m new to miles and I’m confused on how partner miles work. How does delta come into play with this? How do we get points for their partners?
