The problem with the temples in urban areas in China is that most of them were vandalized and destroyed during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1975), and the present ones were rebuilt and are, therefore, not authentic.

Lingyin's grounds is massive now, including the newly developed tourist areas down below… i've visited a few times in the noughts when i was working in Hangzhou, before they had entrance gates, but i much prefer visiting next door's Yongfu temple and their Fuquan tea house these days, just for the delicious vegetarian food and quietness away from the crowds. Wow, so many different entrance gates…

The reason why hotels don’t leave the amenities in the rooms any more is to reduce waste and be more environmentally friendly. Hong Kong has gone further by eliminating all plastic stuff. You’ll get everything paper, plates, bowls, cutlery etc.
