Surviving an Extreme Train Journey Across Russia to Yakutsk – The World’s Coldest City!

Hello from Russia! 🇷🇺 An extreme train journey across Russia to Yakutsk, the world’s coldest city and capital of Sakha Republic, where temperatures drop below -50°C (-58°F) and travel becomes a true test of endurance.

We begin our journey with the Railways of Yakutia in a Platzkart carriage on the Amur Yakutsk Mainline ( AYaM ) built on permafrost, linking the Trans Siberian Railway, Baikal Amur Mainline ( BAM ), and the Far Eastern Railway with the Sakha Republic.

Traveling from Tynda to Nizhniy Bestyakh, a crucial stop on this remote railway built on permafrost terrain. From there, the only way to reach Yakutsk—which has no direct rail connection—is by taking a bus across a frozen Lena River, navigating Siberia’s extreme winter conditions.

  1. Epic video! I personally do not think I would be able to make this journey! Russia just seems too inhospitable and intimidating! Tough life compared to the US

  2. Indeed a master piece of train journey being a railfan I was much pleased to see this spectacular video made by you. Dr. Abdul Rehman is here from Pakistan. Lot of love and wishes from Pakistan. stay happy stay shine.

  3. Классный репортаж!👍 Никто там не бывал, а вы побывали!😁 Welcome to Russia and have a nice trip! Like, subscribe)

  4. What a great trip. Definitely Unforgettable Experience, can't describe anything about the journey. Something I like about Russian Train is their Dual Locomotive, Platzkart Carriage, water heater every carriage, and not forgetting the Provodnik with it's iconic cup. Talking about the short name of this line (Amur Yakutsk Main Line a.k.a AYam), in my language the meaning is Chicken.

  5. Thank you for your great video from the line that is usually outside of the tourists' attention.

24:43 no, I don't think that electrification is in any observable future because freight traffic there is not sufficient and climate conditions are harsh, most likely they are constructing power grids for the remote stations along the line. The second track construction is possible in some places though.

Regarding the change of locomotive at Neryungri, it's because the Yakutian railways start their operation from there to Nizhniy Bestyakh and they use their own diesel locomotives which are unique to them and cannot be seen in any other parts of Russia.

Also, RZhD is notorious for their garbage overpriced food at restaurant carriages. 6 euro for those chicken meatballs and mashed potatoes is a ridiculously high price for such poor quality. Although I hope that you were able to try some real local cuisine during your visit to Russia.

    My best wishes to you

  8. I am lived in weather khatulistiwa equator is means a very hot and sometime is rainy …hot and rainy not is cold liked this railway coldest city in the world

  9. Bellissimo viaggio… Lo riguarderò in estate quando ci saranno più di 40 gradi di caldo…. Una ventata di fresco anche se virtuale….bravissimo, riprese stupende … Un saluto dall'Italia ❤

  10. I live near the 45th parallel and there IS something THRILLING about being in these cold places and knowing that if you were stupid enough to go outside, you could very easily and quickly perish. Not the places for foolishness.

  11. Great views, thanks so much for this content. Without you I certainly would never have seen them!

  14. dr zhivago was tragic sad russian story because of lack of technology . i mean imagine if they had internet and cellphones back then.
