Kumagawa-juku is a historical inn town located in Wakasa Town, Fukui Prefecture. This inn flourished during the Edo period (1603-1867) along the Saba-kaido (mackerel road), one of the five highways. The Saba Kaido was a roadway stretching about 70 km from Fukui to Kyoto, and was used mainly to transport marine products from Wakasa, especially mackerel, to Kyoto.
Kumagawa-juku is located on the banks of a river called Kitagawa and is surrounded by rich nature. The townscape retains the atmosphere of the Edo period, with historic buildings evoking the atmosphere of that time.
