滋賀県大津市の琵琶湖に架かる瀬田の唐橋。西暦６６７年に作られたとされ、約１３５０年の歴史がある橋は、日本三大古橋の１つに数えられています。また、京都へ行くのに距離的に近い琵琶湖を船で渡るより、遠回りしてこの橋を渡った方が早いことから、「急がば回れ」のことわざの語源となったのもこの橋です。
「もののふの 矢橋の船は速けれど 急がば回れ 瀬田の長橋」
Seta no Karahashi Bridge spans Lake Biwa in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. The bridge, which is said to have been built in 667 AD and has a history of 1,350 years. It is counted as one of the three oldest bridges in Japan.
This bridge is also the origin of the proverb “Haste makes waste” because it is faster to cross this bridge by taking a detour than to cross the lake by ship, which is closer to Kyoto.
