Gunma

Exploring Gunma’s Hidden Gems!
Hello everyone and welcome back to Let’s Walk Japan!

Today, we’re stepping outside the hustle and bustle of Tokyo for a day trip to Gunma Prefecture!

But first—breakfast! A hearty mix of eggs, yakisoba, onigiri, bread, sausage, macaroni salad, and BBQ meatballs to fuel our journey.

Getting to Gunma
We start from Kawaguchi, transferring at Akabane, and then taking the JR line to Shin-Maebashi—about 1.5 hours of scenic views and beautiful mountains.

Our adventure begins!
Upon arrival, we meet up with my good friend Moeka, a movement therapy and dance specialist who graciously guides us through Gunma’s culture and nature.

Stops on Our Journey:
Souja Jinja Shrine – A historical shrine enshrining 549 deities from the Heian period.

Melody Roads – Gunma has 11 musical roads that play melodies as you drive over them!

Hakoshima Spring – A pristine water source beneath a sacred 500-year-old tree, supplying fresh drinking water to the town.

Moeka’s homemade rice balls 🍙

Former Kingdom of Hawaii Minister’s Villa – A piece of Hawaiian-Japanese history nestled in the mountains.

Ikaho Onsen & Stone Steps – One of Gunma’s famous hot springs, lined with nostalgic Showa-era shops and ryokan.

Kajika Bridge – A breathtaking maple-lined bridge, especially stunning in the fall.

🙏 Huge thanks to Moeka for her hospitality and guidance!
