A walkthrough of “Horai No Ma” (蓬莱の間), Room #55 at Nishimuraya Honkan (西村屋本館), a Ryokan located along the Sea of Japan (日本海) in Kinosaki Onsen, Hyogo Prefecture (兵庫県城崎温泉.) It’s on the second floor of the Hiratakan Annex Building (別棟の平田館), has an in-room open-air bath and is designated as one of a handful of Special Suite rooms (特別室.) However, I preferred “Kiri No Ma” (きりのま, Room #20), which is slightly smaller in size but is on the first floor with wonderful views of the inner garden, giving it a sense of serenity that Horai No Ma lacks. And although there is no open-air bath, it’s not an Onsen (natural hot springs) bath – for that, you have to pay a visit to one of the communal baths on site, so it’s not really a massive advantage anyway.
