In the north of the main island of Okinawa, at the “Kijoka Bashofu Kaikan” in Ogimi, “Bashofu” is still being worked on looms.
A tradition that is more than 500 years old.

「糸芭蕉の繊維を使い、織り手の心を込めた織物」。沖縄県立美術館で開催中の展覧会案内にそう書かれていた。
沖縄本島北部、大宜味村の「喜如嘉芭蕉布会館」では、今も「芭蕉布」が織り続けられている。
500年以上続く伝統。
