EATING MONKEY TAIL IN GHANA’S LAST FLOATING VILLAGE ๐ฌ๐ญ
I travel inland from the coastal city of Beyin to visit one of the last remaining stilt communities on earth, the Nzulezo stilt village. Deep in the Amansuri Wetlands, the village takes 2 hours to reach by paddle boat. I embark on my first adventure in West Ghana with Emmanuel, a local who has lived in Nzulezu his entire life. After reaching the community, I am treated to a history lesson by the elders of the village before heading across the lake to sample some home made produce in the jungle. Upon our return we visit the Snail Oracle Shrine, the school, the village store and Mama’s Chop Shop, the local pharmacy where they practice traditional herbal medicine. We meet kind Ghanaian people at every step of the way and eventually leave the village to visit the cassava and coconut farms on the other side of the lake. I try my hand at harvesting coconuts before heading back to Beyin.
