【DISCOVERING TOKYO】Experience New Washi Making at Hinode Washi
Just an hour from Tokyo, nestled among mountains and surrounded by lush nature and idyllic farmland, why not try your hand at papermaking in Hinode Town?
At Hinode Washi, you can experience unique and traditional papermaking techniques. On the workshop premises, kozo trees, a key material for washi paper, are cultivated, and some of it is used during the paper-making experience. This unique experience allows you to learn the rare process of creating paper from plants, even within Japan, and enjoy making your own original postcards using the paper you craft. You can also make “Towel Washi,” a type of paper with a distinctive texture created by layering fibers to preserve the towel’s patterns on the paper. Your creations can be taken home the same day, and after a few days of drying, they’ll be ready for use. Various experience plans are available, allowing you to choose the type of item you’d like to make.
In the summer, fireflies dance in the evening air, while autumn brings vibrant foliage to this serene workshop. Why not create a memorable keepsake surrounded by the beauty of nature?
